Nickey4271647545519
Been kicking around the idea of getting an AR for awhile. Looking to piece one together. Still working on getting educated on them. That said, I'd like to know what you guys would build on a $1200 budget. Only requirements I have is a 20-24" barrel and bi-pod be included. Thanks! Diamonds
Optics included at 1200? Why such a long barrel? Anyways, here's a parts list: Gun envy forged lower = 70.00 Aero precision complete upper = 80.00 Cerakote receivers patriot brown = 100.00 Rainier 20 inch barrel = 260.00 CMMG lpk = 75.00 Geissele G2S trigger = 165.00 Geissele 15 inch rail = 260.00 AIM BCG = 80.00 Regular charging handle = 15.00 Troy low pro steel gas block = 35.00 Gas tube = 15.00 Spikes complete buffer system = 80.00 B5 stock in coyote brown = 50.00 B5 grip I'm coyote brown = 30.00 Lancer translucent 20rd mag = 15.00 Harris bipod = 60.00 That's 1390.00... But you can run cheaper buffer system and get an ALG trigger to cut a few bucks off with not cerakoting it... You can also knock off another 100 if you get a less expensive rail like something from strike industries.
Mojoe
What do you plan to do with it? How do you see yourself using it? What do you want out of a 20"+ barrel, that a 16" will not do for you?

What do you want out of a 20"+ barrel, that a 16" will not do for you? Great question to be asked. I assumed he wanted to do basic bench/table shooting from 400-800 yards. I will say, I have an AR15 with a rifle length gas system and a 20 inch barrel and the recoil is nil. Maybe that's why?!?!
Nickey4271647545519
Optics included at 1200? Why such a long barrel? No optics needed at that price, I realize that would most likely compromise on both the build and the optics if that was the case. What do you plan to do with it? How do you see yourself using it? Diamonds
Understood. Well, the build I mentioned should be accurate and look cool while being accurate. I might suggest going down to an 18 inch rainier barrel and a 13 inch geissele rail. Keep in mind if love to help you source/build it. It'd be fun! 1fast5gp
Bob has some great suggestions, only thing I would do different is I would do different is the barrel. Unless you are going with the Rainier arms Ultra Match barrels, I would just go with a Wilson combat 18in SPR barrel or a White Oaks 20in service barrel and save your self some money. http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Wilson-Combat-Match-Grade-Barrel-556-NATO-Special-Purpose-Rifle-18-1-7-Twist-Stainless/productinfo/TR-556SPR18/ http://www.whiteoakarmament.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17562&cat=250&page=

I almost posted the white oak barrel instead of the Rainier!!!
Diamonds
One thing is for sure. The Aim BCG for 80-90 bucks is a really nice piece for the price. I use them in semi and full auto capacities and they run GREAT!
87GT
Another good reason for wanting a longer barrel is safe storage. My 16" barely stands in in my safe with my stock fully extended. Only the tip of the barrel rests in the top rack. It works but I wish it was longer.
