Stampede
I'm working on my dad's old Sportster, I disassembled the starter, gave it good cleaning. Now the plunger works, but the starter motor does not. If I jump the starter side it works, I don't think I'm getting power to the starter motor side. What do I need to look at? Thanks. Green Bastard
Take a look at the run/stop switch and the starter button and make sure all the contacts are good. Also take a look at the starter relay and make sure its good. After that, start tracing wires.
Geeto67
have you checked the battery? 1985 is still an ironhead and those starters won't turn if they don't have a fully charged battery. I had a similar issue with my '74 and replaced the battery and it cleared right up.
