Agence-France Presse reports that an Indonesian maid in Hong Kong has been accused of spicing up a soup she made for her employer with her own menstrual blood. Indra Ningsih, 26, added her own secret ingredient to a vegetable soup in the hope of creating a more harmonious relationship between herself and Ms. Mok, her employer. In some Asian cultures, menstrual blood is believed to have special powers. Ms. Mok discovered the ingredient when she looked into a simmering pot and discovered what looked like blood clots floating around the vegetables. Upon further investigation, the woman found a used sanitary napkin in the bin next to the stove. Ms. Ningsih was arrested and has been charged with "administering poison or other destructive or noxious substances with intent to injure." She has not yet entered a plea.
