The "Detroit Drop"

Kerry, NOTHING like a pre-runner except for knobby tires and 2WD.

Still a stock, full-body, full interior street vehicle that uses a small drop to improve the stance and aggressive RUBBER (not wheels) to fill in the gap.

I tried this - cheaply - with Cleetus by incorporating a "stink-bug stance" with the nose dropped lower than the rear. Makes for a bed that can still haul stuff with minimal suspension travel still...Couldn't find low-profile 15" tires that had knobby, aggressive tread for cheap so I went with the functional snow tires. Would love some rally tires with RWL sidewalls but they were pricey and not the best treadwear for the street.

Ended up being a far more useful package despite the drop. Hence, my appreciation for this article!

nothing here is "new" except the "marketing label" they seem to have attached to it. before the "detroit drop" there were pre runner and stadium truck tributes, and before that it was baja style 2wd trucks with stock suspension, and before that it was street trucks, and guys have been lowering 2wd pickup trucks since there have been 2wd pickup trucks, and yes some of them ran snow tires or knobbys.

I have mentioned before that your setup mimics the push trucks at bonneville - lowered trucks with snow tires to help grab on the salt:

here is an old lowered ford on snow tires:

dirt hooning a push truck:

also I am going to put this "race truck" here:

http://www.allpar.com/photos/jeep/comanche/1985-bonneville-salt-flats-comanche.jpg

this Comanche is lowered on rally tires. has run a Bonneville for a land speed record in 1985. 141mph flying mile. This truck says "eff your "detroit drop parking lot crusier label, my record stands".

Actually I was just using this as an excuse to post pics of awesome trucks, but if I start seeing "detroit drop" on t-shirts I'm probably gonna hurl.

You're all full of it. That style of Redneck Rolls is called a furvendingle menderfrap. Detroit drop, prerunner, stadium truck, etc are all newly made up shit and you're all newbs for bothering to post. None of you have probably even seen a real pickup before.
