The 250cc World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) dramatically retained his title with one round of the 2007 season remaining thanks to a third place finish at the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, after Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot) crashed on the penultimate lap of the race.
