GESEXER Posted May 29, 2012 Report Share Posted May 29, 2012 I was trying to press out a link on my chain and I broke the tool. I was told I had to grind the ouside of the pin down in order to let it press through. Also I need to figure out how to flair the one side of the new link being pressed on. Any suggestions please. Hoblick Posted May 29, 2012 Report Share Posted May 29, 2012 grind down both heads on the link flush with the outer plate.then you can take a screw driver and pop off the outer plate.the link should just slide out.do not reuse a master link, get a new one, and get a rivet style master link. The coupons in any motorcycle magazine has it routinely for like $7.99 or something like that. It looks pretty beefy to me and did the job with ease. Got a $50 wheel chock for $24 with one of those coupons so it's possible you could find one for the chain tool for $7. As for how beefy it is, it felt pretty solid to me when I looked at it.
