  1. Some calipers float some don't. If they have pistons on both sides they do not need to float. If they have pistons on one side then they float. Floating rotors let the part that contacts the pads expand when they get hot independent of the carrier making them less likely to crack.
  2. Not to argue or anything but the buttons are exactly like big speciality rivet. One side is large the other side has a washer and then is crimped. The button, because of the large head and washer, will stay centered on the carrier. Now anyone who has ever worked on a disk brake system knows that the brake caliper floats to adjust itself to the rotor. That being said, if the rotor was off to the left or right the caliper would simply move to accomodate it. Yes I need all the luck I can get. Have a nice day!
  3. Everybody has to do whats best for them. I did not like listening to the sound of the loose buttons so I fixed them. It was no big deal for me, as the buttons are nothing more than big rivets. I tightened them up a bit and the slow speed rattle went away. If repairs like this are beyond a persons understanding or ability then they should have a " tech " look at them. Good Luck

  5. Well it can't be as bad as the other guys on here straightening warped rotors with a hammer.
  6. The bike I did it on was a 94 gsxr 750. Now that I think about it I actually used a tapered lug nut, a bolt and a washer. As I tightened down the lug nut it spread the back of the button. Good Luck
  7. I had some loose buttons that made too much noise so I took off the rotor, put it on top of a vise. I then found a car wheel stud that had a round head, kinda like a ball pean hammer, and used it and a hammer to tighten up the buttons. Worked like a charm. Now that I think about it I actually used a tapered lug nut, a bolt and a washer. As I tightened down the lug nut it spread the back of the button. Good Luck
  8. I have fixed a couple of headlights. I used abs plumbing fittings ( the black drain fittings ) and made mounting tabs. For glue I used the abs cleaner and glue or JB Weld. I have also made glue by soaking abs shavings from the headlight in abs cleaner. You can also soak abs pieces in the abs cleaner making them soft and easy to form along curved surfaces. For glueing make sure you clean the surface with abs cleaner if you use abs glue. Rough up the surface with sand paper if you use JB Weld. You can get all this stuff cheap at Lowe's or Home Depot. Good Luck Reread your post and realized your working on the lens. I have not worked on a lens but maybe hot glue from a hot glue gun would work. Apply glue to housing then heat lens in oven then apply lens to housing.
  9. Well if you find the right guy, you could learn from him so you don't have to rely completely on another person. Your best bet would be a guy that had to tune carbs before fuel injection. Good Luck
  10. You could answer your own question, when potential customers call, what is the most often asked for service that you have to send them elsewhere for?
  11. It ran then you cleaned the tank and the carbs 4 times and now it doesn't run. I suspect the carb float on the rear cylinder is set to high filling the bowl with to much gas and flooding the engine. Good Luck
  12. Oh, so you put them in a vise and bend them back to within a few thousands of an inch or can you just pound or bend ( adjust ) them while they are on the bike. I guess I might try that if I was working on a, how you say, fiddy.
  13. And how do they " straighten " them, beat them flat with a hammer?
  14. Super Streetbike, march 09 edition, has a section called Parts Counter Quack. They addressed this same, as they put it, ridiculous question: I need some new pads and want to get my rotors turned. The just of the article is if your rotor is warped or scored it must be replaced and cannot be turned. Good Luck
