  1. A cheap padlock in the spokes works better. Or through the rotor, if it's ported. Wait, umm... I meant a sternly-worded note, surely.
  2. If we really want to curb illegal immigration, let's make hiring illegals a hangable offense. Redirect some of the ICE money to the IRS for research-- they see companies' records more than anyone else, they can flag anomalous records (instead of just sending 'please send another SSI number' letters). They're here for jobs, and if people are too terrified to hire them (at least in any large numbers) they're most likely going to go back home. I don't have anything personal against these people (I'd be doing the same thing to feed my family, if I had to), but we have our own problems here, and we're not in a position to absorb Mexico's economic hardship as well. So, if we're going to get our own house in order, we need to reduce the flooding in the labor market. Stopping companies from hiring illegally seems much easier than trying to hunt down and deport 11 million individuals. I wouldn't be opposed to simultaneously raising the numbers of legal immigrants we'd accept, but people would need to go home and get in line to qualify.
  3. I wanna know just how many broken bones it took for that guy to get that good. That's fuggin nuts.
  4. Glad it wasn't worse. We may have some of the plastic-weld stuff left from when we fixed Raincheck's plastics, let me know if you want help and I'll see what we can do.
  5. Yup. And the girl's face was fuggin priceless at :08.
  6. Yup. Apparently this is from NYC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdnXYWSa56w
  7. Goddamn I want one. I remember all the hype the first year they came out. Then they shortened the wheelbase because the big fuckers couldn't turn. Who the hell needs to turn? Big, ugly, fuggin awesome > maneuvering. Actually, though, my real problem is that it costs so much. For that price, I'd much rather have a Triumph Rocket III. Big ugly win, ridiculous power.

Of course there's a lot of truckers on here-- drive an 80,000lbs truck all day (or all month, depending) and it's only natural to wanna drive something small and fast after.
  10. Meh... I'm not impressed till they're dragging helmet.

And if you go OTR, learn to make friends with night dispatch. They're always short-staffed, laid-back, and willing to shift the good runs to the drivers that save their ass a time or two. At Crete, I had them so well trained that they wouldn't even bother asking me to go north in the winter.
  12. And your meat can't fix you a sandwich after.
  13. I wouldn't want to actually impregnate her, just because I hate children, but I'd definitely take her through a few practice runs.
  14. [iNTERMISSION] Before the thread turns into a complete shitstorm, let's take a deep breath, and calm down for a second. Think happy thoughts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwMdE5z5KGw We now return to our previously scheduled shitstorm, already in progress.
  15. QFT. I could have a debate with a Goldwater type, shake hands and part amicably. Too many modern republicans, on the other hand, revert to bumper-stickers, religous nonsense, or illogical gibberish (I didn't use a condom, your argument is invalid) pretty damned quickly. If we had more of the old-school conservatives, I might even vote for some of them-- I'm not opposed to some of their principles. These cartoons we have now? Meh.
  16. Well, regarding the idea of republicans and racism, most of us liberals acknowledge that the republicans weren't always that way. That really changed after the passage of the civil rights act sent racists screaming away from the democratic party. Since that happened, the republican party has had a heavier balance of racists than the democratic party. Your examples (Lincoln and MLK) are correct, but they predate the 'game-changing' event.
  17. In practice, most of the libertarians I've met are essentially republicans who either a) smoke weed, b) don't totally hate gay folks, or c) believe the government should be abolished so we can all be like Daniel Boone or some such (because fire and police departments interfere with the natural order of things and keep me from reaching my real potential, man!!!). Any of these would make them somewhat more tolerable than republicans, except for the whole Ayn Rand-worship thing. Seriously, fuck Ayn Rand. Although I do agree that more viable parties is a good thing. EDIT: Oops, sorry Fusion, I was half-ass reading and didn't realize you'd already said what I was about to say. Oh well.
  18. Rep for you, sir: Using your head for more than a hat rack! (Take your 'thoughtfully examining info/ sources' and GTFO!!!! Everything in forwarded e-mails it automatically valid!)

I got my CDL about 5 years ago, using the driving school at the community college in Springfield-- it was a lot cheaper than Roadmaster and such. The test wasn't bad-- like others have said, remembering the important parts of the pre-trip was the hardest part of it. Although the whole thing would have been easier if I hadn't taken the damned thing in the snow. The parallel park thing was kind of a pain, too, but not earth-shatteringly so. As for the written test (which you only do for your temps, if I recall right), it was really easy. I did the main test, doubles/ triples, hazmat, tankers, and air brakes in like an hour total.
  20. If I can talk her out of a Ninja 250, that's not a bad idea.

I spent a fair amount of time in the south when I was on the road. Given a choice, I'd probably move somewhere near Houston over the others (better food, a bit smaller, near water), but hurricane season can be a pain in the ass. The Carolinas get too much rain for my liking, and I think the sunshine rots people's brains in Florida-- the stupid is strong in that one.
  22. Lmao, figured you'd say that. In truth, it'll probably depend on what I find in my price range first. Well, in real truth, I'll probably have to get a bike for the old lady first, then... ... Who wants to loan me a winning lotto ticket?
