  1. For Christmas I got myself a little present. A Remington 700 Varmint .308. After doing some research online I found SWFA outdoors. They sell all kinds of optics, bases, rings and accessories. There were a lot of great reviews for their super sniper scopes so I decided to order one along with their bases and a Harris bi-pod. They shipped the items very quickly and I had them in a couple days.

Once I got to work mounting the scope I was having some issues with ring alignment and fit. Since I don't know much about gun stuff and have never mounted any scopes other than a couple $40 3x9's I sought help from someone that has a clue about this stuff. He gave me some advice and told me what to check out. I came to the conclusion that part of the problem was probably that I overtorqued the lower rings on the base. Once I reinstalled them and torqued them properly the scope fit in the lower rings better but still not quite right. Once I started putting the rings on I noticed that the screw holes in the rings uppers did not line up quite right with the lowers. I heard that their customer service was very good so expected them to replace the rings but I figured I would be eating the cost of shipping to send the old ones back.

I called SWFA today to express my dissatisfaction with the rings and to find out what my options were to get a refund or purchase some better rings. They first gentleman I spoke with was very polite and asked if I would like to return them. He said that I would need to talk to a customer service representative and connected me with a that department. I explained to the customer service representative that I was not happy with the rings I had purchased. To my surprise, the customer service rep told me that they were aware of some quality issues with the rings I had purchased and that they have been pulled from the shelves until they can get the problems ironed out. She asked me if I wanted a refund and I mentioned that I was interested in another brand of rings that they carry. The rings I mentioned were $20 more than the ones I had purchased. She informed that they would send me the more expensive rings as a replacement free of charge. They did not even require me to send the bad ones back to them. If I ever purchase more optics or accessories online I will definitely be buying from SWFA.

If you are looking for optics check them out. Most places these days would never admit that THEIR product was faulty and then replace it with another brand FREE of charge. THAT MY FRIENDS IS OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE.

  2. But, the whole buying stuff in China is becoming somewhat of a tiring topic. Things are not built here for the simple fact of cost and what we as Americans are willing to spend. The cost of an American company to build the same thing as built in China is much higher and takes longer to produce. Call it a curse of sorts, but the fact is that even American companies are building a lot of their stuff in China and elsewhere overseas...

The Gov't making money off you as a "business" is silly. There needs to b a difference. Read my comment on the guy with a dually trailering for fun and the guy trailering with a dually hauling stuff for work. There needs to be a difference and I feel there needs to be more paid by the business guy. He should have to abide by higher standards than the other guy...

  3. And while it does suck for you in the additional monies and taxes (which you can writeoff, no?)

Will I write it off? Of course. It seems to be a common misconception that if you pay for a business expense you "write it off" and get that money back. That is not the case. So I will reduce my net profit by XXX dollars. I don't pay taxes on the amount deducted for fees but I still payed those fees out of my business account. I don't get that money back. I just don't pay income tax on it because it went into my account and then right back out.

  4. And while it does suck for you in the additional monies and taxes (which you can writeoff, no?), from what I read, it sounds like Ohio is just catching up with the rest of the states for vehicles of this size. Maybe you just got lucky you were able to operate a vehicle like that for however long you did before Ohio implemented these rules. :dunno: I dunno, just spitballin' here.

I deal with Class 8 vehicles mostly, so my knowledge on these smaller class vehicles isn't really up-to-speed, but regardless I still think some of the requirements are common sense good ideas for vehicles of that size just from a safety aspect. I'll ask around the office tomorrow and get a few more opinions.

I drive a half ton pickup. If I attach a dual axle trailer to my truck I am over the 10,000lb CGVW. I may hook that trailer up to my truck twice a month for long trips. I don't want to be stuck on the side of the road when I am traveling so my vehicle is maintained well. I think it is an added burdon that businesses should not have to deal with.

They state that I have to have a driving test administered by someone else. I am a one man operation. Who administers the test? Do I get to pay some government employee to administer the test. It is all just additional bullshit that makes it difficult for a small business to comply with additional regulations and fees.

  5. Before you start ranting, have you thought of the reasons WHY this was enacted and WHO had a say into it?

Yes, I have thought about it quite a bit and I have come to the conclusion that it was enacted by a government agency. A government agency, like most government agencies, that has become to large and needs to justify it's existence by creating additional legislation, good or bad. If the government wants to keep roads safe then they should enact annual driving tests and vehicle inspections for everyone, not just businesses.

As for Ohio, it's all about money. Not only the money they get from the federal government. The fees for a commercial drivers license are higher than the fees for a standard license. How many more commercial drivers licenses will be required with the new legislation? Aren't the fees imposed for violations are higher when a driver has a CDL. So you have a commercial drivers license and you have a violation. You get double the points and pay a much higher fee.

Unfortunately our state government is in dire need of funds. Where do they get these funds? Higher taxes on individuals? No way, people will bitch. They just continue to add fees and regulation on businesses because most ignorant people in the general public thinks all businesses owners are greedy and getting rich so they don't care if businesses pay more taxes. They just don't realize that all the fees businesses pay are passed down to them eventually.

I do understand some of the thinking behind it but come on. It's ridiculous. What next? Oh you have commercial plate on your taurus, you need a commercial drivers license and need to keep a log book. You think that's funny now but where do they draw the line.

  6. I eat massive amounts of pasta, is there a tax for that?

There are all kinds of taxes paid in the production, transportation and sale of the product. If cap and trade legislation passes there will be additional taxes for all companies involved in the process of getting that pasta to market and sold. You will probably have to purchase some carbon credits or something personally because the gas you produce after eating said pasta will harm the environment.

  7. If you own a business that uses vehicles with weight ratings over 10,000 pounds, either individual or combined, get ready for more bullshit regulation and fees imposed by federal government and being enforced by the State of Ohio.

Do you have some flaws on your driving record and drive a truck with a GVWR or combined GVWR over 10,000 pounds for work? If so, you may be out of work soon.

I'm not talking about semi's and heavy dump trucks here. I'm talking about one ton pickup trucks with utility beds and half ton pickup trucks pulling dual axle trailers.

CDL, Medical card, log books, equipment inspections and more.

It is comical how our local, state and federal governments constantly ramble on about job creation while they continue to enact and/or enforce ridiculous laws that place unnecessary burdon on businesses both large and small. All levels of government here punish companies that keep job in the USA. That is why companies continue to send jobs oversees.

I love this great country but our government is out of control. All levels of government need to be reduced. We are being bullied by governments that need to justify their existence by creating bullshit legislation and programs that we all have to pay for. Well, those of us that report our earnings and pay taxes that is.

Yes, I am pissed off. As an American and a small business owner, I am fed up with government regulations, taxes, fees and hand outs.

Buy guns and ammo folks. One of these days the worthwhile citizens that believe in the founding principles of this great nation are going to have to stand up and take it back from the worthless pussies in all levels of government. These people are stealing our freedoms and running this nation into the ground.

    OK, Rant is over. Discuss.

  8. Well folks, the poll results are in. 1 vote for Saturday and 7 for hookers and blow. Since I only got one PM for directions I don't think there will be much of a showing so I am going to cancel for this Saturday and reshedule for another weekend.

I am thinking Saturday, November 20th with bonfire to follow. I will definitely be hunting the weekends of November 6th and probably November 13.

Anyone interested for November 20th? Is college football still going then? Would a Sunday be better?

  9. I have too much going on too. 4 kids > halloween weekend

Plus I don't own,,,,,,,,what did you call it,,,,,,,,"a beater" to drive threw your field. I'd have to hike my way out there. lol!

Don't let the field thing keep you from coming. Most cars would make it just fine but I want people to know what to expect. I could also haul gear back and forth in my truck for those that don't have a truck and don't want to drive thier car through a field.

  10. Sounds good Matt but your timing is off. That is the day allot of us have to take our kids trick or treating then rush off to the big OR halloween party that is an epic bash.

Cant make it man, how bout a date change? Most all the peeps you shot with at my place will be attending the OR party as well.

I didn't realize kids were trick or treating that day. Most areas around here are doing it Friday or Sunday. I figured making it Saturday would allow people from a bit further away to come shoot and go to the party same day and only have to drive once. Do you think Sunday would be good or will everyone be to hung over?

  11. The crops are down so it is time to do some shooting. Saturday October 30th. Noon until ??????. I guess until it is time to hit the Holloween partay. I am about 15-20 minutes from Gahanna so it's a short drive from Sunbury to the party.

Bring whatever you would like to shoot. there are some huge dirt mounds in the field out back. I'm not sure about the distance but I think we could probably set up for somewhere in the 200 - 300 yard range if anyone wants to shoot a bit further than the standard 100. I am somewhat limited on target stands. I have two real estate signs that we can tape targets to, but that is about it. I only have a hand thrower for clay pigeons so if anyone has a better thrower that we could use please bring it along. I have two block targets for archery. If you have any targets, firearm or archery, that are easily transportable please bring them along.

We will be setting up in a field so bring a truck or your beater car if you don't want to drive your nice stuff through a field. If you only have a car you can throw your stuff in my truck to take it out back.

I will have the basics available for lunch, burgers(venison), dogs, tater salad, chips, pop & water. BYOB.

Please PM me for directions and to let me know if you plan to attend. I would like to have some idea of who is coming so I can buy food accordingly.

  12. Amsoil. Extended drain interval with their filter. Worth the couple extra bucks. /thread

With Amsoil motorcycle oil you can extend your drain interval to twice what the manufacturer recomends regardless of what filter you use. It is the Automotive oils that require use of Amsoil filters for the 25,000 miles oil change intervals.
