  1. Anyone up north ever been to rays mtb park before? Worth a total newb going to?

I have not been yet but will probably try sometime this winter. Been having too much fun in the snow so far. :)

From what I have heard it is great even for the inexperienced. Watching some of the youtube videos there looks like a number of nice courses that would be easy enough to complete without walking but challenging.

I would think it is worth a day trip, even if just to fight off the winter blues.

  2. Been quiet in this thread.

I haven't hauled my bike to any trails recently but I have been riding my fatbike around the local park. 6" of snow makes the walking trails a great work out and a lot more fun than they are in the summer.

Though I have to watch the tire pressure. An ultra low pressure and mistiming a log, lead to a pinch flat :(

  3. I fell asleep right before halftime when my boy Dawson had the one field goal. I pretty much thought the way the offense looked no way he'd get me double digit points.

That contest was back and forth.

When I saw how many players you had Sunday night, when I was already done, I thought you had me for sure.

Then the Bears under performed and it looked good for me. Especially by half time.

Then a couple long FGs in the second half and finally that one extra point to seal the game for both you and SF.

Oh well maybe next year. :)

  4. Gotta love the comments section on the article.

Seems many fully believe the story this low life makes up despite previous history, including events that led up to the arrest and events at the hospital.

Obviously we dont know the full story but this just seems like another ridiculous suit by a low life looking for a payday :(

  5. In the google street view from the first link, if you move up and down the street you can see the Stig is only there for 1 image capture and there is someone in the car across the street in the other shots.

It appears that the google vehicle stopped to allow the Stig to pose for the camera before continuing on his way :)

From the other articles it appears Stig has been spotted in a similar spot next to the Lock Ness before.

So the question is why did Google remove previous images of the Stig?

  6. It may not be required but the convenience of a transponder is well worth it even if only used occasionally.

It save time and hassle at every tool booth. Sometimes the difference can be considerable at congested tolls.

You can use one transponder on multiple different vehicles.

You also get toll discounts for using a transponder.

Ohio charges $0.75 for the transponder but it appears you can get a MA transponder at no cost. You just need to keep a $20 balance on the account to pay tolls.

    Something to consider.

  7. If you are concerned about the sodium or taste of the water after a water softener consider adding a RO system in the kitchen.

These remove much of the sodium, chlorine and other impurities from the water and are a convenient way to provide taste free water.

We added one when we installed the water softener about 10 years ago. I don't care for the taste of chlorine in the city water so I really like the RO system.

  8. Gimick

Might be an interesting way to teach circuits but is not very flexible.

Difficult to change the circuit once drawn.

Difficult to connect to components unless you use their adaptors.

Crossing wires requires a separate component.

And all those pieces will not be cheap.

bread boards are inexpensive and the leaded parts you use with them are very cheap.

Reconfiguring is easy and anything with a lead can be connected without a problem.

So this system looks cool, but is not as practical.

  9. Age matters here. Jackson was 62 when he was president, Teddy was 41. Grant was in his 50's George was 57. While Jackson may have been the most bad ass, given that it is a physical matchup a 62 year old Jackson, will have a tough time in a long battle against younger and healthier presidents like Teddy. I dont think many modern era presidents have the combination of fighting experience, ruthlessness and physical ablities to match up with the old war heros like George Jackson and Grant.

Only problem is Jackson and Teddy are known to be bad asses. So they are likely early targets of group efforts to remove the biggests threats. Strategy and luck would probably play a bigger role than most give credit too. Getting a few Allies together early would probably be key.

Ofcourse a hunger games style event would allow the more strategic thinkers to have a better shot.

  10. I've never owned a GPS but have used one twice in a friends truck, it was a Garmin but not sure what model and probably 4-5 years old.

As soon as I turn it on I have to plug it into the power port so I assume the battery is dead or does the battery just hold your settings while the power is off? My wife and kids want to get me one but not sure yet which one, they are looking at the Garmin Nuvi 50LM bundle at wally world, any input on this one?

Battery is shot. Most cheap units will work without a power supply for an hour or so when new but after a few years the battery is shot. Not usually a big deal for autos where there is always a cig adapter.

Ive have a cig adapter on my bike and an older TomTom. I picked up a "water proof" housing and mount on amazon for about $20. I can still use it OK through the housing but it is hard to hit the corners with gloves on. In bright sun the screen can be difficult to see unless at just the right angle. Ofcourse this is a low end unit and I dont have a bluetooth headset so the sound is useless but the unit does the job for cheap when I need it. The case and mount would work for my phone if needed too.

So basically you have a whole range of options from bargain to premium. The more you pay the "better" the unit for motorcycle.

Personally Id probably get a Montana as those work well for off road uses and have a nice screen without being huge.

  11. Hey a full suspension fat bike (bottom picture)

Crazy over built for a bicycle but cool none the less.

And I dont get the fake v-twin bicycle .....

I have seen a TW200 with one of those first tires on the rear. Better be a pretty big engine to drive 2 of those.

edit - 750cc should be sufficient. But it is not street legal with those ATV Tires. Im guessing they can use tires from a TW to be street legal. But no way the Brutus 750 is "nimble" :)

  12. pretty cool if it works for other types of collisions.

Statistically rear end car bike collisions are actually pretty rare. Cars pulling into or in front of bicycles are much more common.

And head injuries are most common from single vehicle falls.

So the helmet would have to work reliably in those situations before I would consider a change.

Plus where would I mount my rear view mirror and visor if I didnt wear a hard helmet :)

  13. Turd Tossers and Donomites are in a nail biter this week.

Who's running back will do better tonight?

KC was off this week so I had to pick up an unclaimed defense to fill in for a week.

I think I picked well as Baltimore harassed Andy all day :)

In past seasons there was always some team that went undefeated or one loss, so I was surprised that the app showed me in 1st with 2 losses. Seems like every one is about .500.

  14. Im impressed a modern Harley.

Still feet forward cruiser style but atleast the engine and suspension is a step forward.

Biggest improvement is bringing a lighter bike at a lower price point to market. Like mentioned many young cruiser buyers buy Japanese bikes mainly because HD prices are out of reach.

Cruisers do not compare with sport bikes in HP per cc. This new HD is in the same ball park as other cruiser brands. Even similar to bikes like my Vstrom (55hp 650cc). Looking a power to weight the 750 may be one of the faster HDs.

Im not buying but I suspect they will sell well even if the purists scoff, like they do at the VROD and Sportster.

  15. I am a fan, just doubt I will ever be an owner. There is a good reason why BMW has been referred to as "Bring my wallet", whether that be neglect on the owners part or BMW have a legitimate issue with the bike. You mentioned my 1000 being taller, if it is taller than the 650 it would be hardly noticeable at best. The new 650 is very nice and I like what they have done, however a nice used Strom will serve you just as well and already will likely have some goodies installed on it. I really like the Triumph Tiger 800, buddy of mine has one and just loves it to death. GET THE FLAT FOOTING A MOTORCYCLE OUT OF YOUR SKULL, if you can't you may want to stick with the cruisers. A cruiser limits where and how you can ride "especially for me", but enjoying what you ride is all that matters.

Im not sure about the newer models but the previous gen Vstrom, the DL650 had a low seat stock which the DL1000 had a high seat. Otherwise they were nearly identical frames and bodies. The seats are interchangeable and there is a factory gel seat that is a little lower than the DL650 seat. Ofcourse aftermarket seats are popular and most are on the low side.

ADV bikes tend to be tall and those with short inseams are going to have to get used to not being able to flat foot. If you want the extra suspension and ground clearance these models provide then the seat has to be high.

I think the DL650 Vstrom is the best value. The F800GS is a better than the Vstrom with more power and better suspension but at a cost. It looks like the F700GS is an attempt to get closer to the Vstrom price by despecing the F800.

  16. Emergency surgery on cows? Kill 'em, cut off the bruised bit and process them...

Depends on the cow and injury. A good dairy cow is worth a few thousand if milking, but the meat is low quality hamburger.

But not so surprising. After all semis and trains get hit all the time. Usually because "I didn't see you".

  17.

Like her other brother, she told me to get fucked and decided pregnancy would better suit her. We don't talk much these days. I do miss her, but I don't regret my position. I regret her choice, but that isn't something I can put on myself. She made that decision. Your family will have to make theirs.

Wow that deal sounded more than generous!!!

It is sad when people will not accept help because they are too lazy.

No story to tell but loaning money to family, it depends. My immediate family or in-laws I would loan if they needed no problem, except my brother. He might pay it back, if reminded... But more likely his wife would spend it on more Potterybarn shit they dont need.

  18. As soon as games start on Sunday anyone you try to pick up doesn't go through til wed morning. There is an established order so say we both out in for the same player, whoever has the lower priority number gets him. From wed til game time you can add most immediately

Yep, gives you until Tuesday night to replace all of your injured players with an equal opportunity. Like this week when I had to replace two :(

And someone else got Heath Miller a head of me. :(
