I'm thoroughly convinced that Ohio is the only state where people will try to legitimately kill you because you're a motorcycle rider, which is pretty sad because there are more licensed motorcycle operators in OH than anywhere else in the country. I've had people actually tell me that they would try to inhibit a motorcycle's forward movement if they attempted to pass a car. Some drivers have some severe anger/self-esteem issues out here.

I'm also not a fan of the people that just try to 1-up me because I'm on a motorcycle. I'm doing 75 in a 65 in the left lane all by myself with nobody around me and I get blown past by a dude doing 85 in a truck in the next lane over. It could be a Thursday evening when there's nobody else around and this kind of stuff will happen. If you want try that kind of crap, go to Texas where EVERYONE on the interstate is faster than you.

I feel safer riding in CA than in Ohio. If there's an issue up the road, you are allowed to lane split or use an open portion of a lane to ride past it and avoid it all together. That and people in the Golden State actually know how to MERGE and use ALL the lanes of traffic. You alternate one after the other like it's a zipper. It's not hard, people.

Out of the 39 states I've ridden my motorcycle through, I put Ohio and New Jersey on top as the worst car drivers in the United States. Honorable mention goes to Massachusetts for their art of severe tailgaiting.

I just get on the bike and ride! I tend to be a lot more focused on a motorcycle because my entire body is directly connected to my machine. It also helps that I'm set up for high-mileage days from the Corbin seat to the MP3/XM Radio and the luggage. The entire journey on the two wheels is one giant adventure for me and getting the extra miles is just another challenge.

Getting to the point that 500+ a day miles is normal takes lots of practice and tweaking your bike to fit you. Comfort is key and it pays dividends when you're doing the long haul.

Interesting change of pace from the crotch rocket! The Stratoliner is one of the nicest cruisers I've had a chance to ride. Lots of power, very smooth, and surprisingly light for how big it is. Actually considered picking one of those up once. Good choice.

My FJR's more like a comfy office chair to me. Can't do recliner, I'll fall asleep!

Still chugging along with the state tag. I'm at 39 and one Canadian province with the FJR. Goal is to hit all 48 continental within the next year on the same bike. Love those sport tourers.

for the MSF Basic Rider Course. Never hurts to spend extra time refining basic skills and it's the easiest way to get the endorsement if you don't have a bike or don't want to use your own to take the test. And what they teach you is extremely relevant to everyday riding.

Getting the motorcycle license isn't even a question. I wouldn't want to be constantly reminded that I can't ride any road I please because of legality, and once you've got the endorsement it's with you for life.

Just miss the scenery, the awesome roads within close proximity, and the more infrequent appearance of squids. Why did my childhood home have to be soooo expensive?

Big Bear area is a hoot. I've done Rim of the World quite a number of times. I lived in the South Bay area so I had access to the Palos Verdes Loop, Angeles Crest Hwy, CA-39, PCH, and Ortega Hwy on a regular basis among other roads. Good times and I could ride the coast anytime of the day or night. Ten minutes from my house and I've got something scenic. Can't say the same about Columbus and it just makes me more homesick.

Moved to Ohio from L.A. Last year. More people where gear there then I have noticed here... I was amazed at the lack of appropriate Gear people wear in Cincinnati. Met a guy at my work last summer that asked if I wanted to hit some twisty roads after we got off... I said sure. Met up with him and his buddies and 3 of the 5 had shorts and cut off sleeve shirts. On guy had jeans t- shirt helmet and freaking flip flops... Needless to say " something" Came up and I couldn't take the ride with them

Totally feel ya. Moved from LA in '09 and I'll never get over the lack or regard for protective gear here in Ohio. Took a vacation back home in February, borrowed a friend's '09 BMW K1300S, and had a blast in my favorite twisty roads and splitting traffic like a motorcycle is designed to do. It was 76 degrees during the day and it was refreshing to see EVERYONE in helmets and majority of the crowd in jeans and jackets, including the cruiser riders!

My favorite excuse here in Ohio is, "It's too hot to wear gear!" It's 90 degrees on any given day in November in LA. Please. We've gotten over it already.

I'm returning to CA (San Jose) next month for a motorcycle rally and I'm stoked to actually do everything with a motorcycle that's illegal to do everywhere else for the second time this year. What can I say? I rode in SoCal for six years straight, and once you master that universe, you can ride damn near anywhere. It's also refreshing to return back to a place where drivers don't actually try to kill you on purpose because you're on a bike.

We need a CA ex-patriate support group here. I miss actually using my bike to its potential.

Now that size is cute! Pigs as pets isn't a very far fetched idea. They're as smart as dogs and can be housebroken. I'd rock one of those if I had the space. Then again, "weird" pets have been around me for a while...I've got my hairless rat and he's awesome.

I'm still trying to comprehend how this made it to the news and how this is considered to still be competition. I guess.

There's a reason why Big & Rich didn't choose to "Save a Horse, Ride a Stick." There are obviously better solutions.
