  1. I've been working on this as time has allowed over the winter, and the setup is finally complete. It's been a "spare parts" build, using as many spare materials and as little money as possible to get it to this point. It will not be a fire-breathing monster, although that isn't the intent of the project.

    Details:

    • Stock engine
    • On 3 GT30
    • Recirculated On 3 44mm wastegate
    • Recirculated R35 GTR BOV
    • Custom 3" back door intercooler with 7.5" SPAL fan
    • Dynojet PCV boost & fuel
    • On 3 boost gauge & wideband
    • LSK DIY cage kit
    • Alba Racing Baja Crusher beadlock wheels
    • CST Sandblast paddle tires
    • Stock wheels & tires for dirt and road driving

I may be forgetting some things. Here are the two vlogs I've filmed while finishing this project:

  2. The motors like to give out every couple years, but while they work those things take forever to open or close and you have to hold the switch the entire time. No big deal until you see a hidden cop 50ft away and you're in full berserker mode. Also, they'll leak while closed.. doesn't sound great. I'd rather just have a proper exhaust tbh.

This. More trouble than they're worth.

  3. The build looks great, Alex. 22" is the optimal length for 6.5 creedmoor in the AR platform. I have multiple grains if you need some for testing. AR's are very particular when it comes to 6.5c so find a grain that it loves and buy a lot. Or contact Copper Creek and do load development and then they will give you a discount on the rest.

So far I have built a 14.5 gun, a 9" 300 blackout, Ruger American MDT build, redo my suppressed 9mm AR and getting my 11-87 rebuilt. I 'm still working on my 224V build but still waiting on Craddock for the upper.

Thank you, Clark. I've put a few 140gr rounds through it so far, but would like to try some heavier ones to see how the 1:8 barrel likes them.

It sounds like you've been busy. That's an awesome arsenal.

  4. Thank you, everyone. Head spacing checked out, now all I need is free time when it isn't shitty and/or freezing to try it out. It will be interesting to see how temperamental it is cycling properly with the light BCG and pin.
  5. Considering it's the middle of winter, and opportunities for automotive-related extracurricular activities are sparse, it's the perfect time to put a gun, or two, or many together. What have you built this winter?

Here's my first of the cold season:

    Details are:

    • Aero Precision SOCOM Blue 15" M-LOK M5 builder set

    • Rise Armament RA-240 3.5lb trigger with titanium fasteners

    • Brigand Arms carbon pistol grip

    • V-Seven titanium ambidextrous safety selector

    • V-Seven titanium magazine release

    • Aero Precision lower parts kit

    • Lancer Systems A2 carbon fixed stock w/Luth A2 buffer tube

    • Tubb flat wire buffer spring

    • Fluted 22" Ballistic Advantage 6.5 creedmoor barrel

    • V-Seven titanium BCG and firing pin

    • V-Seven titanium port door and rod

    • Radian Raptor tungsten gray ambidextrous charging handle

    • Area 419 Hellfire brake

    • Superlative 0.936" adjustable gas block

    • Stainless rifle length gas tube

I anodized the raw titanium components a nice teal color to add color contrast against the dark SOCOM Blue.

Next will be checking head spacing (gauges arrive today). Provided it passes that test, it will be time to test fire it and inspect for any abnormalities in its operation. Once I'm confident in its function, it will be time to purchase a bipod and scope, and begin learning about distance shooting.

So, what have you guys built this winter?

  6. Yikes, I stepped away from here a minute and didn't see all the AR9 interest.

Alex, my reply was not targeted to your post, it just came after your post.

Here's all I'm saying on the AR9 or 9mm "rifle/carbine" configurations. It is simply a fun shooter. There are dozens of more practical guns for people to buy. I got into my AR9 for a few hundred and had no real quality or accuracy expectations. Around Christmas, 3 years ago, Palmetto State Armory was running a deal on a lower that came with 40 Glock mags. That's a fuck ton of Glock mags, even if they were not from Glock. The lower was $2xx. The upper was on sale too for around $300, so I bought them. Changed out the butt stock and threw a Vortex red dot on there that I had laying around, and damn if I don't shoot that thing all the time. I have not had a failure with it either. I was expecting sub par performance and accuracy. I'm hitting "rabbit size" targets at 90 yards, with a 9mm and a dot, with no magnification. I have thousands of rounds through it now and have upped it to considering it a reliable gun. Likely would be the wife's go to gun if needed. Other AR's are not "fun" for her. Percussion, recoil and weight are all factors that many ladies dislike. Hell, originally I said it was her gun so she would shoot and not have all those factors. Now, well I'm just keeping it dialed in.

I have shot the Scorpion and man, that's a fun gun! The cost and "pistol" aspect of it have kept me from owning one.

I've messed around with a few drills, transitioning from the AR9 to a Glock pistol. There is something to be said for one round for the pistol and rifle. The limits of the 9mm round are what they are. Essentially this configuration was what the UN wanted with the request for a round that could be fired from the rifle and pistol. The FN5.7 and the PS90 brought that together, but it didn't take hold as they had hoped.

I didn't take your post as being targeted. Sounds like you've had a good experience with yours. More incentive to put one together.

  7. Anyone not running an AR9 or having not shot one, you are missing out. Absolutely one of the most fun guns I have shot for the money. There are several makes out there, but when set up to take Glock mags, I think it's great to pair up with a 9mm Glock.

It's apples to oranges, but I had a Hi Point 9mm carbine years ago that I enjoyed immensely, let alone the amount of enjoyment possible from a higher quality firearm. Putting an AR9 together seems like a great way to get more rounds down range cheaply, as well as satiate the desire to build and tinker.

  8. Utilize my range as much as possible.

    Begin attending classes.

Finish the 6.5 CM AR10 I've been building.

    Buy a Glock 19.

    Build an AR9.

Buy a larger safe and work on filling it.

  9. While I do not have firsthand experience with them, I do recommend them as an alternative to Blue and Red machines. I know personally and know of numerous top-tier welder/fabricators using their machines daily with excellent results on both polarities. I've debated purchasing one of their TIG machines as a back up/secondary unit here.

I say go for it. It's difficult to find a better bang for the buck machine out there.
