  1. Man, you guys have been really helpful! I appreciate it. Unfortunately, the Bonneville has sold already. It seems the used ones sell faster than I can find them. I did go look at a Sportster last night. A 97 with 6000 miles for less than 3k. The guy practically insisted that I ride it. It was in great shape and fit me well. Apparently he bought it for his wife, but she didn't like it much. Now their moving to Tennessee and selling it. I was told that he still maintains it and runs it frequently. He had another bike and a couple cars that were all in great condition. Only reason I'm financing is that I've convinced myself I need it now so I can ride it until it gets too cold and know what adjustments to make over winter. I hope to pay back the loan in about a year, and it seems cheap enough that I wouldn't lose more than a couple hundred dollars for a few months of riding if I hate it. I'm sure it won't be my last bike either. I definitely see a Bonneville in my future.
  2. I had thought about getting a check first, but figured the bank would be pissy about it. I should probably give them a call and see what they say. Thanks again.
  3. The bank wants the VIN, and they will cut a check to the seller. There's a couple cheap sportsters locally that I'm going to check out. Might just get one of for a while. Not sure I want a bonneville bad enough to drive two 7 hour days.
  4. Not sure his name. Just saw the ad browsing craigslist. http://dayton.craigslist.org/mcy/1939831138.html Thanks for the offer to cruise over. I may take you up on that. I haven't heard back from him yet, and I'm not even sure it's still available.
  5. Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like two trips is the way to go. I'll look into the carfax thing too.
  6. I've been looking for a used Triumph Bonneville and found one Miamisburg. I'm in Akron so it's about 3 1/2 hours away. Also I'll be financing part of it (stupid I know). I've never purchased a car or bike from a private seller. Any suggestions on the best way to handle this? It would be great to do it in one trip, but I'm a little hesitant to buy something site unseen. Would some hi-res pictures and the VIN be enough to cover my ass? I'm thinking I'll have to make two trips. One to see the bike give him/her some cash to hold it. Then send the check and pick it up another day. Any tips or suggestions? If I get the VIN can I verify it has a clean title somehow? Thanks and sorry if these are stupid questions.
  7. So hows that work exactly? You just send them a route and time and you're in the club, or are they official rides? Ok, never mind. Lots of stuff on their website... http://ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm
  8. Stick to dry pavement... sounds like the way to go. Thanks.
  9. ha ha, yeah the cold isn't too bad; my commute is only 3 miles. I was thinking about getting some knobbies and seeing how it goes. I'm already pretty sure it won't work, but thought I'd see what people had to say.
  10. Just thought I'd introduce myself. Bought a 2008 WR250X last year. I was just using it to ride around town, but now I'm wanting to do some longer riding. I'm planning to pick up another bike this winter. Probably a Triumph Bonneville. Anyone near Akron that does day trips or adventure touring type rides? Been trying to find some good dirt roads and other places to mess around. Also want to do some street only trips and that's why I'm looking to pick up another bike. Also wondering if anyone commutes year round in Ohio. What about the snow? Is it possible? Stupid? Anyway, glad I found this forum. Finally getting around to introducing myself and hopefully find some other people that like to do the same type of riding.
