  1. I've been going for multiple times throughout the year for the past 7 years.

Best time I had, was spending a week down there. Ride the wheels off Monday through Thursday and putt around for short trips on the weekend. Dragon is best enjoyed in the morning, before 10am. Many other roads that are nicer, but the Dragon is fun.

I always stay in Fontana Village, though expensive...it works and is close. They sell beer as well.

Robbinsville would be a good place to stay, you can ride an hour to the east to Bryson City (28 to 19)) and get all the alcohol you want. Pretty cheap too.

Check out the tail of the dragon website for updates, maps, routes and general stuff.

  2. I have the SX10 IS and love it. No HD video, but that's not what I got it for. The still pics it takes is pretty amazing. The manual controls work well and I can get it to do what ever I want.

Nice piece of kit. Too bad the prices are about $100 higher than what I paid for mine, otherwise I might upgrade to the 20.

  3. I'm a big Yammie fan and just wish we could get a sniff of the XT660 line (X or R). Though if I had my choice it would be the 660 Tenere in a heartbeat.

I do like the 1200 Tenere, but for what I want to do, it'll be too heavy, too big but one hellva adventure.

Though I'll end up settling on a KTM 640 ADV...once the right one comes along.

  4. That's the problem...I'm selling a bike, that has been used like it was intended. Yet I have to compete against guys who buy a bike, sit around polish it up, ride it once a month and baby it.

So, if you want a bike that has been used, but in great condition, this is the one. If I sell it, I sell it...if not, I continue to ride it.

    The Good:

No major engine, electrical or chassis issues. Been on many long trips without issues. I wouldn’t hesitate to take this on a long tour at all. Bought to tour with the wife and did, but now we have a little one on the way and no more touring for her.

Oil and filter changed at 100, 500 and 1000 miles with HD Oil. Then every 5,000 miles with Amsoil 20W-50 Full Synthetic. Transmission oil changed at 100, 1,000 and 10,000 with HD Formula +.

All recalls have been done (tip over sensor and side stand).

    The Bad:

Scuffed front fairing (on the edge), small scuffs on the bags and tank cover from riding it, normal wear and tear. Tires are about 50% in life.

This has been a great bike. I bought it for long rides with the wife, but situations change. Most of the miles are due to solo long trips I've taken on the bike. I'd say 50% highway, 45% secondary road cruising and 5% time spent at Deal's Gap area.

I'm looking to part ways and get something else.

HD has the lien on the bike. But lien can be paid off with deposit on the bike.

    Asking $5,500.

Will consider off-road motorcycles as trade.

Please Email me at kcumjc at gmail dot com. I also have pics of it, so contact me.

Location is 25 minutes west of downtown Cleveland, OH. Delivery details can be worked out if need be.

  6. Good find. SV's can turn into a really nice track bike. There's plenty of stuff to do to it. First off, I would research and get some new suspension under it. Atleast springs and oil up fronts and possible a shock borrowed from another bike. Though, I prefer going whole hog and getting a nice Penske or Elka.

After you get the chassis sorted, then you can figure out the exhaust/carb deal. Easy to work on. Not a huge improvement in things, but it does sound really nice with the right can.

  7. I'm out. Sad to say, I forgot it was my wife's birthday today (when I said I would be able to go). I had sales meetings all week so far and I have to audit a show at the IX center tomorrow. So...Saturday is make up time for not being around all week.

I did get her a card today...but I owe dinner and a day of "what she want's to do." Plus with the rain...I'm okay waiting.

  8. Great bike...but it is NOT for everyone. Absolute riot to ride. I almost bought one....but a buyer backed out on my Buell. I have a feeling that he will not be selling that. Similar bikes are going for at least a grand less than what he is asking. Most are even lower than that. Seems most first gen owners are looking to upgrade to the EVO models.

If you have a chance...ride one. You'll know in 1/2 mile if it's for you. But if you want a very flickable bike, that will not wear out front tires, handles great and has all the Ducati um.... je ne sais quoi.... It's a bike for you. But it has limitations....lots of them.

  9. Hmmmm.... I don't need to spend any money, well the minister of finance says I don't. But I have my eye on a few things. Also I would like to get some miles on the FZ1 before my trip to Deal's Gap. So.. possibly, maybe, thinking I'll go.

  10. Gorgeous ride! I love those old Yamaha red/white paint schemes. That bike is just so classy looking.

Now you have me lusting again for a YZF-750 in the red/white scheme...

Now I expect to oogle over that on a ride this spring!

  11. It's funny...but it's also a VERY good sales tool for the majority of potential H-D buyers. In context, the majority of us (on this forum) are not the core group that H-D is looking to buy a Harley. It's a good guideline and I bet works very well for the majority of sales at H-D. They roped my mother in this way (but she always wanted an H-D).

Not many people get H-D. But they are a really nice motorcycle, but most people need a different mindset to enjoy one. Sure, there are better cruisers out there for less money. I would never pay what they are asking for new one. But for long touring an Ultra Classic is really hard to beat. It turns the ride into a whole different experience. I know I tend to look at everything more, notice the scenery etc... Not worried about what corner I can rail next.

  12. I had to work late....pulled in the lot at 8PM....about 35 bikes....around 15 sportsbikes.....not much going on......saw cavs ugly win and back home....only had diet pepsi ;) no worries....

I was there from 6pm til 7. It wasn't fun. 5 sportbikes, all were in "piss off public mode". I promptly was disgusted and left. No wonder I haven't made it out to that place in 3 years. There were 30+ cruisers, all swilling drinks in the outdoor bar.

IF I go again, I'll wait til a larger group of OR make it out there...

  13. So I'm in. I'll be heading out of Ridgeville around 4:30 or 5pm. I'll take back roads out (to Strongsville) then through the Metropark to Canal and to QS&L. Should get there around 5:30 or 6pm. I'll be on my black 1st Gen FZ1 with bar end mirrors.
