  1. And here I tried to avoid electric add-ons due to some fear it'd be too much for the system, but if they aren't that big a deal, I'll add 'em. Warm hands make a world of difference. Heated glove liners sound pretty spiffy, too.
  2. I'm glad to find this before I buy a winter base layer. Do you have any suggestions for a base layer on hands? I got a pair of Olympia all season gloves, but my fingers still get cold after 30 min at sub-highway speed at ~30 °F. Just found I can fit cotton stretchy gloves underneath, but I'm not sure if that's enough for colder weather.
  3. Good meeting everyone, and thanks (to 1000rrrider?) for recommending a different route back! 664 + 256 > 33
  4. After a little battery adventure, my 2-cylinder sweetie is ready for a ride. See you folks there.
  5. Thanks, all! Turns out it was the battery, and now she purrs like a kitten.
  6. Thanks folks. I'll either get a charger or try push starting tomorrow. Out of curiosity, what's the coldest that you expect I can actually keep it outside? One issue would be the coldest it could be expected to start, and the other is that it might damage the battery (http://www.ehow.com/how_4812079_charge-motorcycle-battery.html). It'd be nice to know if I'm jumping the gun on starting winter storage or if I still have time left this year.
  7. Okay, so I got my '06 GS500 earlier this year, and I remember some reviews saying that it's cold-blooded and doesn't like to start when weather gets cooler. I thought "So what? Surely that would only be at very cold temperatures, and it would start eventually. 'Doesn't want' is not the same as 'can't'.". So, after being out of town for one week and being sick for another week, the thing won't start. It sits outside (apartment complex), and I tried for a while the past few days. Wouldn't start. Today I let it bask in the sunlight until I came home at 5:30pm (about 55 °F). Still no dice. Is there anything to do? It doesn't look like I'll be able to reliably ride it for the rest of the year, so I guess it's time to put it in storage. Fine idea, but how do I get it there without a trailer? Is there some magical, mysterious way to get it started again even for that short ride? If it's any help, when I hit the start button I can hear the typical "engine turning"/"start" sound for a split second before it's just a series of clicks.
  8. At what time would we be doing Hooters? I'm up for it.
  9. I'm all for a good ride, but first I need to get the 4k mile service stuff done. I just looked my bike over and see a few things that worry me a bit (rust on the chain?). If done this week, then weekend = absolutely. Not to threadjack, but if anyone knows a decent place to take my bike please let me know. I'm learning as I go and I don't want to screw something up by doing it myself.
  10. I definitely will. I've been on this ride at different times of the year, and my favorite is after labor day, as there are less tourists in the area. Hope to try again in a couple weeks.

  11. Let me know if you want to do the Indian Lake ride some other time. That was my favorite of the options.

  12. Oh! I thought "cruiser ride" meant something else. *ahem* Well, then... Aight! A slower pace is perfectly fine.
  13. Well, now I've seen a couple of ideas but I'm not clear on what's actually going to happen. If anyone's going to Indian Lake, give me a holler. Same deal for Coshocton as long as it's not cruiser only (I like 'em, but I didn't find recently-made cruisers in my price range). If nothing comes together, I'll ride around up north on Sunday until I get lost like I did last week.
  14. ATGATT it is! That's definitely the way I lean anyway. It's a shame about mesh melting into the skin… I hope I never get to see that. The helpful Iron Pony representative told me mesh was good enough protection and that leather leads to a whole lot more sweating. Maybe I'll see the difference soon. In any case, thanks for sharing. Sounds like I won't be the only one suited up. So, when/where we meet on Sunday? I'm reading rave reviews on the Tilton Hilton's burgers and prices. Me hungry.
  15. Sounds good to me: a decent ride, but not too far for my first official outing. Out of curiosity, what do people usually wear for this type of trip? I have a helmet, gloves, mesh jacket/pants, and boots...kind of like a knight riding into battle. Do people wear all this type of stuff and deal with being hot once they get there, or is there some middle ground? There might be a mix of opinions, but I'm curious what works for others.
