  1. Folks--I'm posting these here for those of you who aren't on FB or have signed up for CaringBridge...if it's overkill please let me know... Sunday, June 12, 2011 12:05 AM, EDT Hi Everyone. I hope you all enjoyed Jeff's post. He read all of the comments in the guest book and was truly touched. It was a long emotional and physical day but necessary in the recovery process. PT, OT did not come in today but I exercised his legs. Not sure if I did it completely right but I had them moving (he is so patient with me). I keep threatening him that I am going to paint his toenails since I am looking at them all the time. He is so sweet that he probably wouldn't get mad at me. We also moved his bed in to chair positions several times today and he would pull himself forward. It is a lot of work for him and he did a great job. He still has a fever which has been really rough. They did another chest xray to check his lungs since they think that is causing the fever. We still didn't hear the results of the xray they took yesterday so I am hoping they have that information tomorrow. Once the fever is gone maybe some of his pain will go with it. A lot of involuntary leg twitching today, he also felt like his right heal was sitting on a block of ice. Not sure what it all means, we just want to start Rehab. I am hoping on Monday we will get a call that a bed is available and he can be moved. It was hard to leave him to night. He was restless and still feeling like crap. Please pray he has a restful night and when I get there in the morning I will see his smiling face. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, I know they are working there is just a lot to fix and deal with at this time. Cheryl
  2. Cheryl has set up a page on www.caringbridge.com. Go there and sign up (it takes 12 seconds). Enter Jeff's name, all one word, jeffkjlun and you can send him a message that Cheryl will read to him. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/JeffKljun/guestbook She will post updates on CaringBridge from now on. Keep on prayin'!!!
  3. "Busy day today. We are out of ICU (ya). He is in a regular room now and not in much pain. Just still very tired and is sleeping a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is so tired that he has not even asked me for his phone today or to use my laptop as I sit here next to him. The man can sleep anywhere. This is good so he will be ready for rehab." Cheryl has also set up a site on caringbridge. I will get the info and post here.
  4. Jeff update – good morning. I talked to his nurse he had a good night. Still waiting to get word on if we can get him out of ICU. The drain from surgery is still in. PT and OT will be there today. He was sleeping so I didn’t get to talk to him. I will give him hugs and kisses for all of you when I see him.
  5. Latest 2 FB updates from Cheryl: "Jeff update - sorry so long. He has been trying to sleep all day. So tired not even asking for his phone. They sat him up in bed today feet over side of bed. Felt sick but he didn't get sick. He is staying positive. Keep prayers coming. If I hugged him and kisses him as much as everyone asked me too I would be in bed with him and never leave his side I wish I could but he can touch me hear me and see me so I am happy. Thanks everyone. " And the most recent: " Jeff update - forgot to mention that he will most likely be moving to Metro for rehab. They think it might be Friday or early next week. I will keep you posted. We are suppose to be moving out of ICU tonight if there are beds available in the other floor and he stays status quo. Looking to go to the neuro step down. But things change all the time so I will let you know when I know. Thanks again we really appreciate you thinking and praying for him." Thanks to Cheryl for keeping everyone updated so that Jeff can rest and heal.
  6. As an STT instructor for the past couple of years, I am more than willing to fill you in. Your best bet is to start at our website, which gives you all of the info you need in regards to your gear requirments (we also rent leathers, btw if you don't have). www.sportbiketracktime.com Go here for gear and bike requirements: http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/track-day-regulations.html This is also a good place for first-timers: http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/frequently-asked-questions.html STT has a fantastic novice program that focuses FIRST on track basics such as body position, throttle control, braking and cornering..BEFORE we focus on speed so that you have the strongest skill foundation possible. Chances of laying a bike down? Less than on the street. Trackdays are JUST like the road only different, lol...here's how: NO oncoming traffic NO guardrails NO trees NO mailboxes NO gravel NO dogs chasing motorcycles NO cops The "Yesses" are: Same predictable turns, over and over. No surprises after the first lap. You don't have to wait 2 weeks for the next ride to remember there's gravel in that turn! Ambulance/medics RIGHT there in case of a spill. Safety/gear requirements that you would most likely NOT adhere to on the street. Everyone going in the SAME direction! Width of the track is more than TWICE that of the street--WAY more room! If you have further questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me at sportbiketrackgirl@gmail.com. Would love to see you out there!
  7. Cheryl posted this surgery update on Facebook: "Jeff update. The surgeon just gave us an update. They put screws in T4 5 6 8 9 10. T7 was fractured off And they removed the bone fragment. Waiting to see if he will need a chest tub. Pray for a miracle. If there is anyone that can prove them wrong it is my honey. Thanks for all the well wishes. " Keep those prayer chains going...specifically NO chest tube.
  8. Jeff in good spirits! Message from him minute ago: "I hope you are awesome they say lots of broken ribs pneumothorax right apex of lung and T 6,7,8 fracture with a spinal contusion which isn't good but better then severed." He also posted on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/photo.php?fbid=233710693311019&set=a.103527576329332.8349.100000162694138&type=1&theater
  9. Jeff is one of those dudes that I don't run into often, but have been running into for years. Also one of the nicest guys I've ever met; always quick with that huge smile! I'm praying, starting prayer chains and sending good vibes for a speedy and complete recovery. You're not alone bro. Hang tight. Christi "BamBam" Midlam Director Sportbike Track Girl
  10. If the guy wasn't drunk and there was ice or road salt...why would he be riding? Why would you ride at 3am anyway? There are a lot of drunks out at 3am...If it were me, I'd be afraid to ride with a bunch of drunks on the road. I honestly don't know how anyone could possibly fail to negotiate a 25mph turn...unless any of the above-mentioned scenarios are true (drunk, ice, noob). Sorry I'm not overly touchy-feely on this one. I agree that we are all family on 2-wheels, but it's squids like this that give the rest of us a bad name, higher insurance rates, helmet laws, etc. He doesn't get my support. Sorry
  11. Hmmm. Don't leave out the "3am" factor...drinky drinky?
  12. LOVE this, RedKow. Here's why: 1) You began with honest, good-spirited convo, to which you will find no better sparring partner... 2) You state your opinion as articulately as I would expect from an adequate sparring partner (hence the return spar), otherwise, not worthy of a reply 3) You bring excellent points to the table; ones that I wish I could drag from a million other people! I can't overcome objections unless I know what they are. In response... The name "Sportbike Track GIRL" is probably misleading. We are actually an organization that exists to make YOUR LIFE EASIER. We're here for the guys. Think about it. My goal is to get your wife/girlfriend to the track....SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO BEG PERMISSION TO RIDE ANYMORE! The discounts offered to women are nothing more than a small token, if you will, to get women to "make the leap." There is a much bigger courage leap for women to even get their endorsement, much less join a track day. Finances are a part of that leap, however the majority of men are willing to "cough up" the track day cost for something they know they will love. Women on the other hand, are truly afraid of "holding up the guys" and all of the ambiguity of going to the track. As a man, the first time you did a track day, I'm sure you were very nervous. But you were SURROUNDED by a hundred other guys, so chances were very good that you would find the support you needed. It's way different for us chicks, I promise. The first FIVE track days I did...NOT ONE other chick. NOT ONE. I was terrified of dropping my bike and being laughed at. Sportbike Track Girl exists to eliminate as much of that fear as possible. Women are goooooood paying customers (research shows even better than men) so we would be remiss to ignore the fastest growing segment of the motorcycling community. ....And if a $15 discount is the final encouragement they need to get out there, awesome. I'm happy to offer it. I consider that "counter-sexism."
  13. Rock on sistah!! Have you done any track days yet?
  14. redkow; ST Girl is anything but sexist. As a matter of fact the organization exists to help women overcome sexism in a male-dominated sport. I have met hundreds of men that are fully supportive of our goal, but unfortunately, there are still those that don't care to share the track with women. Because that was your knee-jerk reaction, my assumption is that I failed to effectively communicate our mission. For that I apologize. Our message should be a very clear, succint one of empowerment and independence building. Can you be more clear as to why you feel it's sexist? Would you agree that it is a male-dominated sport? Do you just feel women shouldn't be seperated from the men? If so, why? Christi "BamBam" Midlam Director, ST Girl (Sportbike Track Girl) Sportbike Track Time Midwest Staff WERA #212n
  15. Jbot-- Common question. There were a number of reasons; the main reason is to consolidate the family of brands more succinctly. There were also legal requirements in the overall sale of Sportbike Track Time, the need to revamp/revitalize the brand, etc. At the end of the day, polls overwhelmingly showed that our customers liked the name much better than the old one. It's a solid business move and we're pretty stoked about it! Christi "BamBam" Midlam Director, ST Girl (Sportbike Track Girl) Sportbike Track Time Midwest Staff WERA #212n

  17. How did it go? Did you have fun?
  18. Hey TaRR-- You will LOVE MidOhio. It's a sweeping, technical track with elevation changes, long str8s (perfect for the 1000cc) off-cambers and blind turns. I have logged hundreds upon hundreds of laps there. Here are a couple of tips: 1) Look as far ahead as you possibly can--especially in the Keyhole and the Carousel. This will not only increase your speed exponentially, but will result in a much smoother ride. 2)Turn 1 is a way faster turn than it looks. Resist the urge to "throw out the anchor" and grab a fist full of brakes! Once you apex, DO NOT look at the yellow curbing on the left. You'll hit it and go airborne. Been there, done that. Look ahead to the chicanes. 3) Pick your braking reference points during your first lap or two and work on them all day. Adjust them as your speed increases. This is especially true of the back str8. And finally, there is not a track in the world that is as finniky as M.OH, weatherwise. If it has rained at all, don't ride. Unless you're okay putzing around and getting wet. Have fun and welcome to your new addiction. PS--Kiss your vacation time and $$ goodbye.
  19. Is this John? Your wife braids yours, right? LOL--I need to teach my husband how to do it for me. The Ponch image has now been permanently burned into my soul. Yuk. Thanks 4 that.
