Everyone here is correct. Before you can get a salvage title a DMV inspection station has to inspect the car and make sure it is "road worthy" and hasnt been repaired with stolen parts. It doesnt have to be the best repair, but they want to make sure its safe to drive. Also, whenever you do eventually go to sell it, It will be worth much less due to the fact it has been in a "major" accident. Best bet would be to just let the insurance company keep it. Take the money you get and buy a cheap used car that you can use as a trade in when you go to get a new car.
