I guess a lot of folks around here would cash in their retirement based on Dr. Phil then. You’ve been around here longer than I have, but I’ve rode more than 1 epic ride where folks bailed based on the forecast.

I don’t need perfect weather buddy, just decent. When I go on trips like this I’m all about riding. I don’t mind hanging out talking for a little while, but remember I’m a math teacher. Read-social skills are subpar. I struggle just sitting around too. I’ll give it another day and see what it looks like.

I’ve bailed on epic rides cause of weather the day of. I’ve also seen epic rides cancelled 36 hours beforehand due to the forecast and the weather was fine.

All I can say is in a 5 day trip, we are almost guaranteed to get wet...but also will definitely get plenty of good riding in. The ratio matters and hopefully it’s much more of the latter. But I’m fairly sure it’s going to be a good trip no matter what.

  2. This time of year, especially in the mountains, all weather forecasters can do is throw a dart at a board with numbers between 5 and 100 and roll with where they land. It's the summer, it's humid.....it will rain. Any more precision than that isn't possible.

I will say.....last year was a sucky, wet mess. Just hoping we avoid it this year. But changing 6 month old plans based on a crappy forecast is like cashing in your retirement based on the recommendation of Dr. Phil.

BTW, do you remember my suggestion to fix it? And did you do it?

IIRC, you suggested to install the chock a little higher on a block, which would lift the height of where the front wheel met the frame of the trailer.....and in return would have given me that extra half an inch or so clearance that I would've needed. Is that correct?

Never made the change. I should've though. I trailered it a couple times after that.I suppose the damage had already been done.

    I didn’t notice that. But, now that I do...my bill’s in the mail. :)

You may put anything you want in your ear as long as it is for hearing protection. So noise canceling earbuds would be ok, but for music or even navigation instructions it would not. There is no way we are getting music allowed, I was asked about that several times, it would be a deal killer. Here is part of the legal analysis provided to the House. There is also a clear exception for 'headphones' that are built into the helmet, you can use those for anything you want.

The bill clarifies that both earphones and earplugs include devices that provide the user either entertainment (radio programs, music, etc.) or hearing protection. As such, under the bill, a person operating a motor vehicle is prohibited from wearing earphones or earplugs, in both ears, for either hearing protection or for entertainment purposes. However, a person operating a motorcycle has the limited, permitted exception of wearing earphones or earplugs for hearing protection.

Full text of the bill, and the legal and financial analysis is here:  https://www.legislature.ohio.gov/legislation/legislation-documents?id=GA133-HB-129

Interesting thing I learned reading through these documents, the current law is a minor misdemeanor. Now that is pretty f'd up.

    Interesting.

I wonder where my usage falls. I use noise isolating earbuds with foam for the dual purpose of hearing protection and communication, sometimes music. They’re always in for hearing protection and if I’m not wearing them, I’m wearing actual ear plugs. But I do occasionally listen to music.

I guess if I make the argument that the sole use is for hearing protection, I have an affirmative defense with the bill as written.

  7. This may have been asked. What is the wording of the bill, Jim? Only allows hearing protection? Anything on earbuds?

Thanks for your work on this! These people serve at our behest. Not the other way around. I know too many old timers that suffer hearing loss. To get a ticket for protecting our hearing is tyranny, plain and simple.

  8. I’ll be there. Either staying at Tuskegee Motel or chipping in on a cabin. If I can get firm commitments, I’ll reserve a cabin. So if anyone wants to join....let me know.

    Bummer...and then there were 3

    I doubt I make this.

Coming in late Thursday and riding down was doable, but with the forecast the following few days....especially Saturday, I may hold off and save the days for better weather. May never come...  but 90% chance of rain and temps in the 50s exceeds my threshold for discomfort.

I appreciate that offer, Jacob. If I take Izzy, you won't get her back. Count on that. I miss the shit out of that bike.

You can take the Tuono, if you want. Or I take the Tuono and you ride the FJR.

Its an option, anyway. Might be a chilly option.

  11. As it stands now, I’m meeting you guys in Marion on Thursday night. I’ll be slabbing down on the FJR. Probably will get in around 12-1.

Plan is to room with Pauly. Should be a fun way to cap off the season!

    Hell yes man.

@Pauly is being a dick and not committing but Joe and I are in for sure.

I'll be at a conference in LA and I'm supposed to get back the 18th at 5pm. But I could take the red eye the 17th and be back in time. Let me see what I can work out.

  14. I rode the BRP last year with my wife for a hundred miles or so, then took 421 back North and spent the night in Bristol.

While I had a ton of warning about LEO presence, I didn’t see any during my time on it. And yes, the speed limit is low. But I stayed at comfortable speeds of 10-15 over, and got lucky to not have haf any trouble. I’ll tell you though, that pavement and those curves just beg you to take them faster.

Its a beautiful road. And mid-week, traffic wasn’t bad. But just the threat of a ticket kind of tempered my enthusiasm. Still worth the ride though.

Your more that welcome to ride down with us Jamie. We’ll be leaving from Ben’s house early Wednesday morning.

Thanks Matt. I may take you up on that. I think Tony and my plans are still tbd, but rolling with you guys is an option we considered.

Once we nail things down, I’ll let you know.

Hey @Blitz think my plans are changing. I'm now looking to spend a few days going down and visiting with some friends in the way. Also going to meet up with some Connie guys on that way. I'll know for sure in a few days. But looks like for now I'm canceling the oiginal plan. Figured I'd let you know now to give you a couple week to figure out some alt plans.

No worries, Tim. I think my plans kind of changed also.
