A 750cc bike is kind of like a 16 gauge shotgun. It has become all but obsolete because the 12 gauge and 20 gauge cover it all. Same as a 600 cc and 1000 cc.

Having said that, I think the 16 gauge is a great shotgun and it is my preferred hunting size. Not too big, not too small...

I think the Triumph Street Triple may be the best all around street bike I have ever ridden. The 675 is like yesterday's 750...

Sounds kinda of basic, but I highly suggest checking all the straps, etc. after driving the first 20-50 miles and then at the next fuel stop(s). You may be surprised what a few bumps in the road will do to settle down a bike.

Don't compress the suspension too much, you want some travel for soaking up the bumps you will encounter.

I don't use a canyon dancer anymore. I just use soft straps at the triple tree, lower forks, etc. I was told that the canyon dancer has bent handlebars on more than one occasion. I have never had a problem with them, but don't wan't to take a chance. They certainly give you good leverage and a nice angle to tie down points, but I can see how they could bend or break handlebars in certain situations...

Bought and sold a number of bikes on Ebay. Never had a problem. Bought a couple from California and had shipped to me in Ohio. I have had several occaisons where I talked to the seller and didn't get a good feeling, so I passed. For me, I have learned to trust my gut feeling. I also like lots of pictures. The important thing about pictures, to me, is not the bike, but the surrounding area. What does the house look like? Where was it stored? Is the grass mowed? Is the garage neat and clean? Etc. To me, that speaks volumes...

You know, maybe I am the oddball, but I kind of look forward to winter... For one thing, it makes riding again in the spring so much sweeter. I am much more grateful for the ability to ride, to be able to afford bikes, etc.

Also, winter time gives me plenty of shop time. I have a shop that I have spent alot of time making it "mine". I enjoy going out there on a cold evening or weekend and servicing the bikes, tinkering around, etc.

Finally, I love to read, and winter gives me the opportunity to catch up on my reading...

So, yes, I too have dreamt of moving somewhere that has good year 'round riding, like North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, etc. But, I wonder if I would be less grateful for the time I actually get to spend on a motorcycle.

Now, having said all of this, realize it's the end of October. Come February, I won't be so philosophical and poetic, I will be wishing I lived in the South...

Well, we ate at Spearman's and it was awesome! I couldn't believe the number of items on the menu(s). My girlfriend and I had dessert: she had the pumpkin pecan pie, I had the banana cream pie, and, uh, we also split a piece of Hummingbird cake...

Like I told the waitress, you only live once, as far as I know....

If you are looking for an inexpensive comfortable commuter with decent storage look at a Honda NC700X...if I had the $$$ for a second bike I would own one for sure.

I agree with the Honda NC700X. You sound like a perfect candidate for one. These bikes are really making a great impression with everyone who rides them. 70-80 mpg, great storage, upright riding position...

In addition to wet leaves, I would also caution you to keep an eye out for spilled grain and mud tracked on the road by farmers leaving fields. With the wet weather, the farmers have been making a mess of the roads in my area. Lot's of mud, debris, etc.

Going riding today as it may be one of the last pretty days of the year. Thanks to this forum, I am going over to Danville and have lunch at Spearmans. Never been there, but looking forward to it. Hope they have good pie!

Going to ride the two lanes between Danville and Wooster, Millersburg and Mansfield. If you see a 2011 BMW R1200RT doing a wheelie with a passenger smacking the driver in the head, that will be me...

Not sure about Danville, but Gambier has a great deli for sandwiches, etc. As you probably know, Gambier is the home of Kenyon College.

If you are going to be travelling up towards Wooster, I highly recommend Broken Rocks Cafe...

Took a 200 mile ride today. Road SR 95 from Butler up to Wooster, had lunch, lots of side trips. I don't see many people talk about riding SR95, but this is a beautiful stretch of road. Hills, turns, trees, etc. Watch out for Amish buggy's and horse crap.

I really liked my Triumph Speed Triple but had to sell. I could not ride that bike without breaking the speed limit. I swear I tried, but I just could not keep the front end on the ground or the speed under 100 mph. If I was able to ride the bike sensibly, then I definitely would have kept it. It seems like a great all around bike.

I also had an 2010 FJR 1300. Man, I really liked that bike. It had lots of speed, torque, etc. Very stable at speed. Good weather protection. But, I could not get comfortable on it. It was just a little too sporty. I tried, barbacks, seat, etc. So, I sold it and bought a BMW r1200rt. Fits me like a glove.

However, I will always highly recommend the FJR to someone who wants a good all around bike that plans on doing some weekend touring trips.

I also love my Bonnie... But I put a sidecar on it.

Just got back from a ~400 mile trip. Back roads to SR 97 through Lexington, Bellville, Butler, Mohican. Picked up 39 in Loudonville through Millersburg, Berlin (crowded) to 800 in New Philadelphia. 800 down to 22. 22 to Cadiz. 9 North out of Cadiz to US 30, dinner in Wooster, some back roads back to Upper Sandusky.

Nice colors, leaves peaking? I am never going on 39 Berlin to New Philly. I hate that section. I have done it before and I always regret it. No More!! It is so crowded and touristy...

Anyhow, I was really shocked at the amount of construction and oil drilling traffic that we encountered on the bottom half of 800 and it was much worse on SR22 and SR9. They are doing a huge amount of new oil drilling in that area. Quite a few places with loose stone, slop from water trucks, etc. Lots of flaggers, one lane closed, etc. They were moving in oil rigs, eqiupment etc. I don't have a good feeling about riding motorcycles in that area and it will probably get worse...

What would you all suggest for some fall color riding in Ohio. Looking to ride in either a swath south of US 30, east of I-71, north of Ohio river...

Not looking for tight technical riding like 555, more like 2 lane sweepers with nice views, leaves changing, etc.

P.S. Had some nice riding on both sides of the Ohio river from Cincinatti to Evansville, IN last week. Some very pretty riding between Madison, IN and Rising Sun, IN. Rising Sun is a very nice little town...

I most always wave at anyone that is in/on a non-cage... Motorcycles, scooters, trikes, sidecars, Spyders, bicycles, whatever. In regards to Harley riders, I also find that they are "hesitant" to wave. So, I make sure to give them a very BIG, arm high, back and forth, wave. Sometimes I actually stand up on my pegs. They almost always wave back. Out of guilt, I believe. Not bad people, just misinformed... Try, it. Next time you come across a cadre of pirates coming down the road, really put your heart into a wave and I bet you will be rewarded with an acknowledgement.

By the way, my girlfriend on the back of the bike, is less than enthusiastic about my approach, but can't deny the results!
