  1. Recap from Shoutbox:

    Headlights,

Sylvania's are a good "same as stock" replacement. Slight blue tint and a slight difference in wattage (depending on the model).

LED's, Clean, stock drop in and nice color. Only issue I have found is the level of brightness is less than stock or Sylvania bulbs.

HID's, Very bright!!!! stock bulb replacement (in most cases). With your bike the wiring gauge is small and draws a heavy load. The fix is to install heavier gauge wire from the battery with a relay. These bulbs last a long time, not as long as LED's but still a long time.

    Turn signals,

LED turn signals look awesome and last forever!!! The only downfall to this is the lack of power they draw. Since they draw so little power the relay thinks the light is blown and causes it to flash rapidly. This can be fixed by either installing resisters at each bulb (10ohm 10watt from Radioshack @ $2.49 a set), or changing the relay under the seat.

Changing the turn signal relay is fairly simple and is probably the cleanest.

  2. Okay, so I'm cheap. I am also an engineer by trade so I tend to build stuff.

I know this isn't the same quality you would get from ordering it (in most cases) but It came out pretty well. I just couldn't justify spending $130 for one.

I Plasti-diped the whole thing but you cant tell. By the time I got done with that it was pretty dark.

    What do you guys think?

  3. Ever since I went to the Yamaha ride at the Iron Pony and rode the R1 I have wanted one. I have recently found one locally for a decent price. It is at a stealership so I would have to trade my bike in (per the Mrs.) and take a $ hit, which I'm kinda okay with.

One of my concerns are I'm 6'2" 255 and I upgraded my current suspension in the front, not yet the rear, to accommodate my size. How is the R1 for larger riders? Any of my larger people ride one? How are the stock adjustments for my weight, could I use them or would I have to re-spring everything?

I know from an accessory standpoint, there's a ton!!! I'm worst than a girl in Claire's when it comes to accessories!!! :D I should be good there!!

Anything anyone (good or bad) that you can let me know I would be grateful!!

P.S. I may pick it up tomorrow if I can make up my mind :)
