  1. I'm putting back together a '76 Suzuki GT380 right now. Never worked on a 2 stroke before, but it came apart pretty easy...

I do most of the work on my bikes and there isn't much to an old carb'd 2 stroke. The plan is to eliminate anything that doesn't make it run, keep the headlight and a taillight and use it to bum around when I want to go slow. It won't be a primary source of transportation.

  2. Nice, I'm thinking about taking a trip back to Mackinaw with the wife to show her how beautiful the state is up there. Most of my family lives around West Bloomfield now, Adrian, Tecumseh, and MIS.

My wife's side of the family all live in and around Vandercook Lake, little place just south of Jackson. There is some nice country riding down by Adrian, Tecumseh, and MIS area. US 12 and M-50 are a few roads that come to mind.

  3. Hate to hear that your moving on Doc, after the dream ride we tossed around the idea of a weekend in Hocking Hills for this spring. I think we need to make this happen and give our friend a send off. Give him a good reason to come back and see us.

All the talk about a Dream Ride, I had to check it out. Looked like one helluva good time! :D

Doc: I'm from Michigan and can attest to the scenery in Northern MI. If you get a chance to cross the bridge and get into the U.P., I would recommend that also. I have rode up the coast of Lake Michigan, across the bridge, west on US 2 out to Minneapolis and then back down to Milwaukee to take the Lake Express Ferry back to my hometown of Muskegon. It was a blast, but, there isn't much of a twisty road to mention that compares to what you can find in Ohio.

Good luck up there and don't forget to perfect the "detroit lean" in your "deuce and a quarter". This will help you fit in with the locals :p

    Urban Dictionary

Detroit lean: Driving with one hand on the wheel while slouched over to the right

Deuce and a quarter: A very large Buick from the mid-70's that can be pimped out like no other.

  4. Where do you go in MI? I go up there a lot and hope to be heading up there with the TH too.

My in-laws have a nice little piece of property near Croton/Hardy Dam and one of my buddy's owns about 10 acres a bit east of Manistee off of 55. We like to get up to both places and do some river trips and just hang out.

And your comments on the dually are so right, the 5.4 would tow it, same with mine, but man I've been there, done that, never again unless I have to.

Agreed! It did the job, but that was the one and only 5 hour trip the F150 made with the TH.

  5. Actually, we were considering that down at Hocking. The park lets you own the lot, then you can build whatever like a cover/shed place to store it. Think enclosed storage but still being able to pull it out for the winter or whatever. I have the name of the place, it's gated, golf carts allowed, and I am sure trails etc.

Pretty much exactly what I had in mind. Hocking is a great area too, I rode out that way a few times this year.

  6. I don't give a shit what people say about towing a 5er with a 150/1500, etc, it isn't smart nor safe. Yes it can be done, but it's stupid and you are putting everyone on the road in danger, not just yourself.

Another reason I forgot to mention. The last thing you want is something going wrong when hauling that kind of weight around. Overkill is better than pushing the limit...

6 tires is way the hell more than 4, plus beefier lift kits, shocks, etc. But hella sweet.

I dropped $1000 on 6 Firestone's shortly after I got the truck because they were all mismatched and showed some wear. Again, the last thing you want is something failing during a tow.

  7. A question about the tow vehicle, at what point do you find the dual axle necessary? I've wanted a dually since I was a kid but would never buy one unless I had a need. I associate them with 5th wheels and bed campers but I don't know at what point it becomes a must.

I must admit, the dually may be overkill on towing the toyhauler. I had an F150 with the 5.4L when I bought the TH and actually hauled it back home from Michigan with that truck. It did okay, but I decided to get a bigger truck and found the diesel dually MONSTER F350  for a good price and went for it. My wife and I frequent Michigan (that's where family is) and I didn't want a tow vehicle that would be manhandled around on the highway because of what I was hauling. Also visions of hauling the camper and bikes to shows around the country came to mind! :D

The dually setup will also help stabilize the camper and minimize it being tossed around on the highway if the camper sways a bit. More tires on the ground means more traction. :D Also, if you head down into KY or mountainy (sp?) areas, the diesel pulls like a mule up the hills and gets decent mileage too. I went down to Maysville, KY a few months back and was averaging 16mpg towing the camper. Pretty sweet when you are hauling something that weighs in around 10,000lbs loaded down!

One con I can think of is that when you change the oil, you need about 4 gallons of the stuff... Lol!

  8. Definitely can't wait to load it up with bikes, golf cart, and just us for some camping trips this summer.

I have been tossing around the idea of finding a campground a few hours away (in prime riding territory) to park it next season. Then I can hop on the bike, ride to the campground and hang out for the weekend without worrying about loading everything up and wasting a half day Friday and on Sunday hauling the camper around...

  9. Big fan of Leo Vince. Great customer support too! I emailed about getting a USB cable for the FAST II fuel controller because the previous owner didn't have it when I got my CBR. I got a prompt response that they didn't carry the controller anymore, but they had found a spare cable laying around and would ship it out to me. I got it in the mail 2 days later from Cali for FREE. :D

  10. Here is what I roll around in. F350 diesel and toyhauler that will definitely transport 2 bikes comfortably. Inside has a queen bed up front, full size bed above the garage and the standard table that folds down to a bed. Definite overkill for only 2 people and 2 bikes, but we go camping with friends/family also who will stay in it. When we aren't taking the bikes, the garage area works great for other storage like the grill, bicycles, kayaks and such.

  11. I'm loving the yellow and black CBR. Especially with the Leo pipe! Please share.

I'll see what I can do about getting a video posted up of the exhaust. It is a full titanium system with the Leo Vince fuel controller and quick shifter setup. Pretty pricey system that came with the bike when I got it. Yay for me! :D

  12. Welcome! Any idea what bike you are going for next? I've owned about a dozen of them over the last few years, and am always sad to see each one of them go... Often thought that I should open a motorcycle shop, just to validate having so many bikes at once! LOL

  13. Thanks everyone. I have been on a few different bike specific forums, but never really got involved in them because everyone was scattered across the country. Pretty sweet to get a "hello" from a dozen people that aren't to far away.

  14. :welcomeor: Love that VFR, looks ready to ride coast to coast!

It is ready for a coast to coast, oddly enough though, it would probably be difficult for me to decide which bike to take... :dunno:

There is no question that the VFR would be more comfortable, but the raw power of the 1000rr, would make it difficult to leave at home! :leghump:

  15. Love the black and yellow CBR...what part of Cinci are you in?

My wife and I are north of Cinci in Middletown. I love the yellow also, found plenty of deals on red and black CBR's, but held out until I found a yellow/black one.

  16. Hey everyone, just wasted a beautiful day at work and saw that my account had been activated so I wanted to get on and say hello. :D Looking forward to chatting with you guys/girls and sneaking out for some rides this winter. I have had quite a variety of bikes over the past few years and am currently rockin' a CBR1000rr and a VFR800. I just traded my 2008 Hypermotard 1100s for the CBR and the VFR picture is from August before a trip out to the Black Hills.
