  1. Ya, a MC helmet would never stop or deflect a bullet sufficiently enough to keep the occupant alive lol

     

    I was special operations in the military...a fiberglass and padding helmet wouldn't even slow down the bullet enough to keep the guy alive at all. A FMJ would plow right through the helmet, his head, and the other end of the helmet. A hollowpoint would possibly start to break apart when it hit the fiberglass, but would continue on into the guy's skull before shattering all over the inside.

     

    Even a Ruger MkII (basically a training pistol) would blast right through without issue.

    As would I. We're talking about a crowd of 30-40 bikes in that video alone that had the range rover surrounded and 8-10 of them were off their bikes walking toward the range rover after CORNERING IT ON THE HIGHWAY. If they stopped him in the middle of the highway and were approaching the car as a group, it's obvious they weren't attempting civility in the situation. I wouldn't just start firing, but I'd definitely give a few of the leaders of the pack a good look down the barrel. If it didn't slow them, some of them would be missing some knee-caps.

    Well, multiple questions:

     

    1) What makes them think he tried to help the SUV driver?  What kind of "help" is he giving the SUV driver by being in front of the SUV?

    2) Is it more likely that he was helping the person who was knocked off his bike? (note I didn't say "biker")

    3) Is it equally likely that he was taking part in the initial attack on the SUV?  What evidence do they have that indicates what was doing?

     

    4) The $64,000 question....    Did his bike have its license plate on?

     

     

    If his license plate was removed then I would refuse to believe he was not part of the ride.   Maybe he DID stop to help the idiot who got knocked off his bike...  Maybe he even stopped to help teh SUV driver...  Regardless, once a mob starts attacking his car he has every right to punch it out of there.  They're lucky they did this in NY - if they did it in Texas they'd probably have be shot.

     

    This is a good example of not just "mob mentality" but why you should not allow yourself to be caught up in the moment and make assumptions.  I wonder how many of those riders knew that the person knocked off his bike was at fault?  Maybe those attacking the SUV thought they were stopping a hit-run driver from fleeing?    Doesn't matter - for the patient in the coma we are only judging the SUV driver's actions - and from what I can see in the videos released so far I don't have any problem with what he did.

     

    It would be an extremely unlikely coincidence that a guy with a ton of tickets who is unlicensed to ride motorcycles (or drive cars, for that matter) was not connected to the group of similarly-authorized riders and then happened to be in the same place as them and stopping at the same time as them.

     

    As for the knocking off his bike thing...the biker that got hit by the car (tapped, really) never fell off his bike. He only slowed enough to make contact with the range rover and then he came to a stop in front of the suv. Soon after, everyone else stopped surrounding the car too. If I were in the range rover and somebody did that (stopping with the engine brake just after migrating lanes 2ft in front of me on purpose so the brake lights don't come on), and then I started to become surrounded by bikers getting off their bikes and coming up to my window...I'd punch it too. The guy has his wife and young child in the car.

     

    As you said, if this were any number of other states, one or more of the bikers probably would have been shot. The problem is that in NYC nobody's scared of being shot because guns are, for all intents and purposes, illegal.

    The guy who was run over and put into a medically-induced coma wasn't even licensed. He lived in Massachusetts (a Masshole -- big surprise, right?) and had never applied for a driver's license, had two temporary motorcycle permits, and had somehow managed to rack up 16 speeding tickets and citations. Mass had actually banned him from operating a motor vehicle in the state until 2017.

     

    In addition, the reason nobody was actually caught or ticketed because of the video is because almost all of them removed their license plates for the entirety of the event.

     

    Let me put this out there: If you have to remove your license plate for a group ride, there's a great chance it's because you're doing something you don't want to be caught for.

    Wait, did you get an email or call or something? I've been waiting for them to officially recall for the ECU for like 2 months now and have heard nothing in the US.

     

    Where is an official notification? Can you provide a link or something?

  6. Since the topic has been resurrected...the issue with the cold-start IS the fault of a bad ECU. In multiple countries around the world Kawasaki has issued an official recall and word is the same will be happening in the Americas soon. And the fix? Replacing the ECU because the one from the factory has faulty hardware.

     

    Good thing I was totally wrong by saying the issue was in the ECU.

  7. Jokes aside...if a large group of bikers gets together to "stunt around Manhattan" (their words, according to one of the articles), they deserve to be arrested at some point.

     

    Riding through Times Square at 40mph wheelie-ing between cars is stupid. I don't care what stunts people want to do, but if you do it in *extremely* foot-traffic busy areas like that, you should have your bike taken away. It's beyond irresponsible and it causes a lot of injuries and problems.

     

    I'm blown away that some people are actually sticking up for these idiots. They brake-checked the guy after surrounding him and his family, and then forced him to a stop by surrounding him again...and then everyone is surprised and blown away that he gunned it to get away. Anyone that disagrees with that decision either doesn't have a wife and kids or has pretty messed-up priorities.

  8. Oh, and I forgot to mention. NYPD said they impounded 55 bikes and arrested 15 bikers over the weekend...and that wasn't even a majority of the bikers that participated in the event. Nobody's going to think that 3 or more bikers are gang activity...but when you have 100+ bikers riding around Manhattan causing trouble, I'd say that should be considered gang activity.

    You don't like how it reads? The group of bikers literally got together to cause trouble. They met up for a "stunting weekend", where they would ride around Manhattan doing stunts. That's not a peaceful ride...that's getting together to be a nuisance. That's, for the most part, what defines a biker gang.

     

    If they would have gotten a permit for a sizable ride like that, they could have even had a police escort if needed. The problem is: They planned on doing something illegal (stunting), so they wouldn't have been able to get one.

     

    It might not seem like such a big deal in Ohio, since a majority of the state is rural and a bike group like that wouldn't cause too much of a slowdown, but believe me when I say...it's a whole different animal in NYC. Having lived there, I can tell you what a pain in the **** it is when bikers get together and ride around the city in larger groups, without regard for safety or laws. This definitely isn't the first incident where a man has been pulled from his car and beaten. I've watched people ride down the street intentionally hitting civilians just walking on the sidewalk. It's a nuisance, and it makes sane and civil riders look terrible because of the way they act.

  10. Driver did nothing wrong. He was just driving down the highway when bikers started surrounding him. One of them had the idiotic idea to brake-check the guy and he got hit. The biker pulled over 4ft in front of him and slowed down hard using the engine as a brake...there's no fault of the driver on that one.

     

     

    When they started cornering me I'd be calling the cops. If they started coming after my car with my family inside? I'd run over every last one of them if I had to if that's the way to get away. I wouldn't have slowed down, and I definitely wouldn't have been pushed off the highway. He was forced off because they surrounded him and blocked off the highway. I'd run straight through them if it meant keeping my family safe.

     

     

     

    Any of the riders in that group that condoned that type of behavior are idiots and don't deserve a license. It's too bad more of them weren't hit a few times.

  11. Scott Russell can ride the wheels off a bike, but he's no physics professor.

    Bikes lean because you turn the wheel out from under it. Shifting your weight is to keep the bike more upright, not make it lean.

     

    Umm...no? Shifting your weight is meant to move the center of gravity and give the rear tire more control and grip where it's needed.

     

     

    And yes, you can definitely dip the bike into a corner without using your hands. It does turn the front wheel, but it's your weight shifting the center of the bike that's making it happen. If you don't believe me get up to around 100Mph, take your hands off the bars, and put all of your weight onto one of the pegs (and move your body in that direction). I promise the bike will turn nice and quickly.

I fall asleep at my desk every once in a while - usually due to a recent all-nighter at work.  Boss has caught me a time or two.  It happens.  I figure out how much time I lost and add that to the end of my work day.  When it's the boss who caught me he always remind me there is a "nap room" in the building and tell me to take a 30 minute nap.

     

    We have a "quiet room" at work too, for just that kind of thing, but where the case could be made that it's excusable at a desk...it definitely isn't while operating a vehicle. If a civilian falls asleep at the wheel and does something like this they throw the book at him. It's not as if you just get off from the charges because you were asleep...he should still be fired.

     

    One of the tenets of being a police officer is actually being awake and paying attention while on duty. He obviously failed at that task.

Excuses?  No, there aren't.  However, it's an honest mistake that I'm willing to bet most of us made at one time or another, in this case the cop got burned on it.  Given what little I know about his record, there doesn't seem to me to be a lot of reason to toss this guy out for it.  Re-training fine, protracted probation with desk duty fine.

     

    ABSOLUTE nonsense. If you fall asleep on the job, in pretty much *any* profession...you're let go. If you not paying attention causes something about your position to fail...you'd be let go.

     

    If I went into a meeting with a customer and then we failed to get the contract because I was playing on my phone, asleep, or plain not paying attention...I'd be fired. So it should be for a law enforcement officer that *RAN INTO SOMEBODY WHILE DRIVING*

    Absolutely zero excuse for that.  Don't fire him, because mistakes are made.  But he needs to be sent on remedial driver training, get ACDA and reckless op tickets, be put on probation with the dept (any further driving infraction = bye bye job)  Also the police dept should pay for all damages without a moment's pause.

     

    No...he should definitely be fired. It's, literally, his job to uphold the law. Failing to do so in his own life should be met with harsh penalty.

  15. A 22 year old driving without a license. Probably a pretty good reason for that. Guessing she was only taken to the hospital so they'd take pity on her too, since if he struck the rear passenger-side she pretty much couldn't have been injured.

     

    Hope your friend comes out alright. The girl should have her license revoked indefinitely, although considering the article I doubt that would stop her from driving.

  16. I like All Seasons in Wooster. Have known them for years and always had good luck. They're friendly, helpful and pretty knowledgeable. I have a couple warranty issues and a couple different bikes and they were always taken care of. Nice people that try to do things right and usually do.

     

    I might give them a shot. Do they have an authorized Kawasaki service department? I love State 8, but since they're not an authorized service location they don't have the equipment to plug into the ECU to get codes and such. That's fine for everything else (they can do service), but it takes longer to diagnose issues sometimes.

    I did respond. I said it wasn't the ECU, ass bag. I also stated that it had to do with something emission based. I stated STVA or similar. The exhaust valve is an emissions piece. Same idea...

    I refrained from saying you're retarded to run the max psi on your tires for street use... I responded with even examples on the tank fill up. I also stated that I doubt you measured the oil properly and I pointed out that you're stupid because you were arguing liters vs. quarts. But I do agree that IF you did measure accurately, they made an error.

    Anyways, I am done. You know more than anyone. You use Google and have no grasp on reality. I'll give you a small clue with what I do for a living. My avatar...

     

    How wonderful...you're a Ducati enthusiast. Explain to me what is wrong with my explanation of the ownership of Ducati, since you've twice now said I'm wrong but haven't given an opinion.

     

    Again, you're using the same psychology you used before...when you don't have anything to say you just use the "[but you're right and we're all stupid]" line. It's classic deferral.

     

    Your "tank fill up" example doesn't even make sense -- fleet and company lease vehicles generally aren't filled up...because the company has already invested in that dealership or brand generally for the long-term (most companies sign paperwork saying they'll lease from the company for X amount of years). Dealerships do it for personal sales because it's incentive for the customer to come to them for their needs or for future purchases. You're literally one of like two people in this topic that thinks the dealership filling up the tank when you buy a new vehicle is not something that's expected.

     

    Here's another great one: The cold-start issue still exists. The engine light went out after they adjusted the valve, but the cold-start issue still happens. Below is a 20 page topic about 2013 ZX6R issues -- 80%+ of them are the bike stalling on a cold-start. Every single person that's had the issue resolved has either had the ECU replaced or is running a new tune after putting on a slip-on or full exhaust:

    So keep telling me it's not the ECU. The issue isn't resolved and the *ONLY* fix on the internet is either replacing the ECU or bypassing its programming.

     

    As for the oil, it was still far over the rated fill. Including changing the filter I should pull out around 3.3Qt, if it was filled correctly. I took out just a hair shy of 4Qt (I literally mean less than 1cm from the 1Qt line on the fourth jug). That's a large difference...that's more than 20% more than it should have been. As I said, I don't have stands for the bike, so I did my best to measure while attempting to hold the bike straight up...but that's not easy since the window is so low. It looked too high, but I couldn't be certain I wasn't just holding the bike off-center.

     

    Finally, I never said I run the max psi on the street...I said I run the psi prescribed in the owner's manual. Those are very different numbers. The dealership was the one that pumped up to the near-max of the tires...I was the one that had a problem with that.

    Why would you be able to buy an Audi at a Porsche dealer? Porsche doesn't own Audi...they're both owned by the Volkswagen holding company. You can, however, buy Audis and Porsches at many Volkswagen dealerships.

     

    And you can't order Lamborghinis at Volkswagen dealerships because they keep the line separate from the rest of their holdings. Audi owns the company, but the Germans don't have much input on the creation of the cars, as evidenced by the Aventador's creation history. Aside from major company decisions and such, Lamborghini does what they want with their line, and they keep separate from the rest of the holdings of Volkswagen.

     

    As for Ducati, Audi gained 100% rights over the company's decision-making through their Lamborghini subsidiary. It happened sometime last year.

     

     

    Aside from your first post, you haven't responded to *any* of my issues or points in this thread. Since that point you've done nothing but used rhetoric to try and make your point through logical fallacies or false application ("You're definitely right, I'm an idiot").

  19. Prepare yourself: The people on this forum that stick up for dealerships will try ripping you a new one just because you think that the dealership didn't act with morality and integrity.

     

     

     

     

    That being said, you were completely correct. Dealerships like that deserve to die off. If any other retail store in the world acted like that, people would lose their minds. The thing is, motorcycles (and even most cars) aren't generally even big-ticket items. Think about it: the Tiffany jeweler in NYC sells 50x in a day what dealerships sell (and not talking about online sales, purely person-to-person) and if they acted like that people would stop shopping in the store. A dealership sells 3-5 bikes a day and they pull crap like that all the time.

     

    Granted, the reason they do it is because with such low physical numbers of sales they go for the guaranteed sale (someone comes in and says they'll buy it, they do it)...it's just shady and lacks integrity.

  20. So an hour and a half later...the tech called back. They had to call Kawasaki to see if it would be covered and Kawi said it's not a common issue but probably was something mis-adjusted from the factory. Regardless, the warranty did cover it...but I'm glad I know something about the mechanical workings of bikes or they would have screwed me with a $90 charge for nothing.

  21. LOL he just called back and said it's good to go. $90. I said...come again? He said that fixing the butterfly valve is considered an "adjustment" and wouldn't be covered. He's going to check with the service manager quick because he was, for some reason, under the assumption that I bought the bike used and had no warranty.

     

    I don't even know what to say to that...
  22. Just talked to roush. The butterfly valve on the exhaust was out of adjustment, which was what caused the error code. The tech thinks it's also the reason there were cold-start issues. He's adjusted it to what he said keeps the light off and it didn't have a cold-start issue, but with the torrential downpour the first half of the day he hasn't had a chance to take it for a test ride.

     

     

    Either way, it's probably good to go. If anyone with a 2013 ZX6R has either of these issues, get it to the dealership and have them look at the adjustment on the butterfly.
