Fair enough...
At first I thought the bolt the rails came with were too short. Although they probably were too short with the spacer. But, I could also be experiencing the first few threads being worn down?
Not sure, but I accidentally used a standard bolt in that engine mount. But again, I didn't tighten it all the way down. I'm assuming there are healthier threads deeper.
I've been researching this issue and all I see is helicoil and that involves dropping the engine. And I can't help but think about how much I screwed up due to not paying attention.

So... when I was attempting to install some impaktech race rails, I first used the wrong bolt in the hole.
It went in a bit, but I didn't tighten all the way. I just wanted to get everything set so I can see how much I need to shave off of the fairing to get it to fit. I eventually got a diagram from Impaktech about what bolts and where the spacers go. I realized I used the wrong bolt!
Looking into the hole, I can see some thread still looking fine, the bolt that's SUPPOSED to go in there works, and screws in and doesn't slide in and out. So I think it's only the beginning of the threads that got messed up.
Should I go ahead and find a longer bolt with correct pitch and size so it goes in deeper?
This is for an F4i.
Or, should I look into getting helicoil? I'm not familiar with it so I would probably just pay a professional to do it for me instead of screwing more stuff up.
grr..

True. I figured.
Idk. But thanks for all the input from you all!
for the meantime, I'll be enjoying the f4i until winter!
I haven't been riding too much as of late but when I do, I'm usually out and about for a couple hours.

After seeing these replies, it humbles me knowing that I have a solid motorcycle. I don't know, I think I just want a bike that looks sharper more current in a way. I love how the 2012 CBR1000 looks. The fairings on them look great.
Is there a website to buy fairing kits? I think the only thing I don't like about the way it looks, is the tail end. Like on the sides, it looks bulky-ish. Compared to like an R6 where it looks sharp and edgy, lol. Not sure how to explain it but yea.
I do plan on riding it a bit more until the season is fully complete, then replace and work on it during the winter in the garage. I may sell it though by spring and pick up something new.

After some thinking...
I either want to test ride a 675, newer Cbr600rr and cbr1000rr.
I'll probably stick to the 600's but I figured I want to try a liter bike out once lol
-
Hmm I've always liked the look of the 675!
I could put that into consideration!

My buddy did it.
But, he's moving to Miami in a couple weeks. I'm not sure how much he would charge for this. This was the first bike he fully wrapped. He mainly works on cars.

Hi.
I definitely just missed out on so much in this thread lol. But yes I hear that Honda's are bulletproof. I think I will stick with a Honda when I get a new one. I hear that the 2008 CBR600rr is like the best year, not sure why. But I also didn't know that 30k miles isn't a lot lol. I figured it was, but I do keep up on it and it runs perfect other than the battery needs to be replaced and most likely the chain and sprocket after this season.
I recently just bought new levers and clutch cable since I had a cheapo Chinese off-brand lever which shredded my clutch cable lol. These CRG RC2 levers are amazing and I feel that the clutch is way easier to pull now.
I think the cam chain issue has been resolved since I got this bike.
My bike is also completely vinyl wrapped so it looks pretty unique

I can't deny, I do have a lot of fun on my 600.
-
Thanks for the information guys.
2500 seems reasonable. I was aiming for 3000 but I guess I wasn't too far off. Yeah I do routine maintenance and oil changes every 2000. I haven't rode much this year as I have been very busy lately and also bought a new car recently.
I've never rode a 1000 but I was just wondering how much different they were.
I also have this urge to get a Grom, lol. Just something fun to ride here and there, but I also want to just stick with the sportbike so I can enjoy some Sundays out on the backroads.
I am also a one foot at a stop light kind of guy. But I guess the best way for me to find out the best bike is to just go to a dealership and just sit on a bunch of them.

Hi All,
I'm sure many other people have been in my position and are ready to get something new. I currently have a 2001 CBR600f4i and it's getting up there in miles. 30k+. I am looking to work on it through the winter, such as replacing the chain, sprocket, maybe new tires and whatever else is needed so I can get it ready to sell by spring time. Not sure how much I should sell it for but I would just like enough to help me get a new bike.
I definitely want something more current. Maybe like a 2010+. I'm not sure on what to get though. Should I stick with a Honda? 600rr or 1000rr? What are your opinions? Also, any short riders in here? Lol. I'm 5'4/5'5" and I can currently ride my bike with no issues. Are the newer 600rr's higher in seat height? What about the 1000rr?
Long shot, but I LOVE the way the BMW S1000rr's look lol.
My cousin had an R6 and the seat height was a little too high for me. But then again it was my first bike I ever rode so it could be something I'd just have to get used to.
I do know that lowering is an option but doesn't that effect steering and whatnot? That's why I avoided lowering my f4i. The guy I bought it from even included a lowering link but I never bothered getting it installed.
-
Gotcha! I think I may go with some CRG levers. I ordered my new clutch cable already.
-
You know what, it definitely is the levers lol. I got them off eBay and after taking a look at my stock ones, it looks like there is a slot that the wire goes through instead of being cut off on that edge.
I'm going to take a look at new levers and I have been looking at CRG ones. Not sure what other brands are good but I have just been seeing CRG a lot.
Also another question, I have seen some levers that include a "perch" on Revzilla. Is the perch necessary?

Is this normal wear and tear or should I look into replacing the lever as well? I remember changing my clutch cable last year because I noticed it ripping by the lever, and I checked today, and it's doing the same thing. It looks like it's getting cut on an edge. Is this because of the lever? I think this even happened before with my stock levers. Would sanding the corner help?
Picture attached.

True... I think I may just hold on to it and save up for a new bike instead of selling mine now then looking for a new bike.
-
I don't know why I'm making this topic, maybe because I'm bored...
I am thinking of selling my bike...
I DON'T want to sell it because it's my first.
I DO want to sell it so I can get something newer.
IF I do sell my CBR600F4i, I'll probably end up looking for a newer CBR600RR.
So, what should I do?!
Lol.

Oh! Makes sense!
I'm looking into registering at Nelson's. Maybe I will take on this adventure near the end of August as I have scheduled myself some time off from everything so I'll have some free time during the weekend!
-
Hmm... I may join you to PIRC!
Another noob question, what does taping your lights do? Like taping off the headlights? I may have to check out Nelson Ledges soon!
-
A track day would be something I would REALLY want to do... but do I have to prepare my bike in a certain way to have it on the track? Or can I just ride there, pay a fee and ride?
I don't have a trailer to haul the bike so I'll just have to ride to the track. Also, I am in Cuyahoga county, is there something nearby that I can ride to?
-
You can ride dirtbikes on the street legally? I never knew that. I would love to have a bike like that to just ride around for fun.
-
I didn't realize there were so many replies on here.
Sorry,
I learned the hard way I guess and I got lucky! Definitely didn't let this incident scare me away from riding again as I was back on the road yesterday evening on a nice ride through the metroparks. Hit some turns to get more comfortable again and I know these roads well so I didn't have any surprise sharp turns ahead of me.
My bike is vinyl wrapped and I had a buddy give me some of his wrap polish and it took away most of the scratches I got from having it slide in the grass. But, heres a picture of the bike after the accident happened. It actually doesn't look like anything happened.

Todd, that had to be crazy!
-
Exactly what I was thinking. I usually wear my GoPro when I go out and ride and this is one of the times I didn't have it on.
I think I messed up an engine bolt/mount

Welp..
Got back from Ace Hardware...
Impaktech sent me a 70mm bolt & 80mm bolt. The 70mm was supposed to go on the right side (troubled side). No matter how hard I tried, it would not catch. So, I ended up picking up a 75mm bolt so it's slightly longer. And it works now. I made sure not to go crazy with tightening it, but it's on there now and secure.
Impaktech is actually sending me an 80mm bolt too, oops too late.
But, I guess I'll check the bolt next week after riding for a bit just to make sure it's still secure.
I guess next time I have to take these rails off, I'll pick up a tap and clean up the threads.
