  1. So, there's a first for everything...

I bought my motorcycle last year in June, and have been riding as much as I can! Well, this past Saturday, I was heading to an MMA event that I was going to help film with my friends and I decided to take the bike out from Strongsville to Akron. Once in Akron, and near my destination, there's a road that had a few twisty turns. The first S turn was a breeze and it felt great after driving straight on the freeway for 40 minutes. Then, another bend comes up, and as I get closer, it was sharper than I thought! So, I lightweight panicked and hit the brakes then my back tire locked up and I went straight into the grass and eventually the bike slowly laid down and I started sliding in the grass down into a ditch. I was going about 30-35 mph and the moment I panicked, everything in my head started getting quiet. It was quite an experience.

Anyway, I get up quick and check myself and surprisingly my jacket had no rips or scratches, my jeans were intact and my helmet never hit the ground. I definitely would have thought I would start to feel road rash or scratches on my left leg since that's the side I fell on. But, nothing. So as I look around in shock, a couple of cars stopped that saw it happen. One kid got out and helped me push my bike back up towards the street. I check the damage on my bike, and I got nothing but a few scratches on the left fairing and a bent left mirror. I bend it back and it looked like everything was good to go...

I noticed that the bike was still in gear so I hold the clutch in and try to mess with the shifter and I had no luck in getting it in neutral to get it started!

Eventually, another biker came by and checked out the situation. He then started moving the bike back and forth while trying to change gears and it worked! Got it into neutral and started the bike!

The feeling of hearing the bike start back up was amazing because I was already calling 2-3 tow companies to see if I can get my bike transported back to Strongsville, and I had no luck.

Anyway, I don't know if that biker is on this forum, but whoever has a GSXR750 and came to help me out in Akron this past Saturday... thank you!

After the event, I rode back home 45 minutes and the bike was perfectly fine. I will still give it a thorough check up during the week as I also need to change the oil soon so it'll be a great time to do some maintenance and check-ups.

Anyway, I'm glad I got to get up, walk & ride away from this accident.

    It was a blessing.

  2. Thank you!

I actually went up to the closest motorcycle shop by me and picked up a container of HP Honda premixed coolant.

There was some coolant in the little tank but I filled it up between the two lines. I'll keep an eye on the level.

  3. Sorry to bring an old thread back but this involves the tank the hose connects to...

I just noticed that the coolant over flow tank or resevoir is empty. I'm assuming this isn't good, can I just fill this back up directly? Sorry for the noob question.

And, can I use prestone coolant? Or is there one you all suggest?

  4. Ah okay so technically it's supposed to be like that?

I was thinking I might have messed with something when I was cleaning the front sprocket. But that was the other day when I did an oil change too.

Today's ride, I didn't find anything leaking as I usually check after I park somewhere.

  5. I have a 2001 Honda CBR600f4i and I was washing it today after a nice ride around.

Well, I look underneath by my kick stand and I see this hose disconnected just hanging. It looks like it connects to the coolant tank.

Is this supposed to be connected to something underneath? I can't see what it would go to.

As I rode around today, the bike was normal and didn't overheat or anything...

Anyways, here are pictures to show a visual...

  6. Thanks for the input!

I don't really have any intention on filming in 4k although it'd be pretty cool!

I just want something that'll last. I'm just not too familiar with GoPros but they look like they can take a beating.

Other than motorcycle riding, I plan on taking it out when I go snowboarding during the winter!

  7. Hmm I'll look into the Sony version!

My buddy has a GoPro, not sure what version. But we used a suction cup mount on my car before. It held okay, but then again we were only driving around 40-45mph. I definitely want something secure so I don't have to worry about it flying off lol

  8. So,

I am saving up to get a GoPro so I can take videos of some rides and maybe get into some MotoVlogging.

Anyone recommend a cost effective version of the GoPro? They seem to have many different versions and I just want to know if anyone else is using one and what type they recommend?

Also, are there specific mounts that I need to get as well to attach to my helmet or on the motorcycle itself?

Speaking of helmets, I plan on getting an Icon Variant helmet. I'm not sure if there are specific mounts for each type of helmet, so I just wanted to throw that out there.

    Thanks!

  9. Didn't know it wasn't lit. He will get two tickets then assuming he drives in the dark, I would imagine it only has to be lit when it is dark. Yes I know there is no state law on side ways plates, but a boatload of cities have local laws on it. He will get tagged in Lakewood for example if a cop sees him for sure.

Yeah I don't have lights on it yet. But I dont plan on night riding yet so I have time.

Strongsville seems relaxed on my plate. Haven't been stopped here, Medina, Middleburg, Royalton, Parma, Brunswick.

  10. Welcome to the forum. They opened a Cycle Gear in North Olmsted. Basically entry level gear. Not a large selection but good enough to give you an idea of what you really want and how the sizes run so you can order it online. I'm local in the Olmsted area and ride the Metro Parks and back roads mostly. Let me know anytime you wanna ride. I'll probably be up for it. If its not too steamy tomorrow night I'll probably cruise down to Bike nite in Valleyview.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up! I may just ride out to Olmsted this Sunday!

I definitely want to go to Bike Night at Quaker Steak but unfortunately I can't skip class tomorrow night, lol. Maybe next week or the week after I'll head out there!

  11. :hello: Welcome

Iron Pony will have the best selection and it's worth the drive to Columbus. Roush does have some stuff but not as much as the Pony. Riders Discount has the best prices if you already know your sizes. And I took the MSF at Polaris, it was a lot of fun. Worth the time to learn valuable info to get you started.

    Thanks! I'll start shopping around!

I think the classes I'm registering for will be held at Tri-C western campus.

Welcome! Another piece of advice is to buy the best gear you can afford. It sounds crazy as a beginner, but it pays dividends in the long run. You will be significantly more likely to ride with well designed and comfortable gear.

Indeed! I want my gear to last as long as possible so quality will be a factor.

Any specific brands to look for? I've been mainly looking at cool designs. Alpine Stars look nice and I hear Joe Rocket has good gear.

  12. Hit riders discount up for some gear! Jeans ain't gonna do much for ya if ya do down at speed.

True! Where's Riders Discount? I want to go to an actual store to try on the gear instead of ordering online and realizing it's a wrong size lol

Like Bad said, the metro parks are good, but they're also small.

It's about 5 miles of "good" riding, and then I usually go 20 miles or so further, past Boston mills and through peninsula.

It's a nice relaxed ride. I did that route on Sunday. Twice.

I'm going to check that out this Sunday!

If you're the right size, I have some gear you can borrow for a little while.

I'm about 5'4" / 140lbs, one footing it at lights lol. Tip toe status with both feet lol.

Thought about lowering my bike, but I didn't want to anymore due to people saying it'll mess with a lot of the dynamics.

  13. Not sure if you work during the week days but after my honeymoon I may have a few days available to show you the decent roads in the immediate area

Yeah I work during weekdays. Weekends are really my only full days to ride around aimlessly.

Although in August, I'll have a few weeks off of school! So my evenings will be free!

  14. Welcome and gear up brother, boots, jacket and gloves at a minimum, dress for the crash not for the ride.

I think I'm going to check out the State 8 Motorcycle store for some gear!

I've been just wearing jeans, Timberland boots, Snap-On Supergrip gloves & a light jacket.

I know, I'm a "squid". But I definitely have a helmet though lol.

  15. The brecksville metro parks and Valley area is "best" local riding. I use best loosely

I'll have to check the out this weekend!

Where's Cleveland?  Never heard of it.  :D

    Here ya go, whippersnapper.  Definitely

do this.  You won't have to take the skills

test after you pass the Basic Riders Course.

    http://www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/

Nice bike, by the way.  Be careful on it.

There are plenty of MSF classes in your

neck of the woods.  You're probably going to
