  1. Unlike Obama, who be swatting MH370s from the sky like King Kong!!!! 2017 was the safest year in Extraterrestrial Invasions, Thanks Trump!
  2. Other countries. Also other politicians. Its not "That" important but it isn't valueless either. Presidents with good approval ratings usually have an easier time getting other politicians (Like congress and foreign leaders) to go along with their policies because they all want to share in some of that good will. Regardless as to whether it is even accurate, just the reporting of it is a form of political currency. Does it matter to you and me? not so much, but if he wanted to be more effective it should matter to Trump. Other Presidents have had lower approval ratings, but usually they come at the expense of the president being successful in passing some action that proves to be unpopular (think GWB, 9/11, and the subsequent Afghan/Iraq wars). Trump is unpopular before he has had a chance to be successful with any major initiative and it's mostly because of his Tweets, Quotes, general demeanor, etc. That is going to make it harder to get more done going forward. which presidents have a little effect on and usually lagged (so thanks obama) For now, but it is no more or less safe than it was before. The only difference now is that if we have a problem, we may have less foreign allies to rely on because he's pissed on a lot of people's leg. That isn't being paid to the deficit and will cause more money to be owed in the future Actually this is not going to be true for very much longer. Part of the new tax plan cuts mortgage interest deductions in order to get house prices to fall, on purpose. This is one of the few areas that the democrats agree with the GOP on for strategy, but it is not very popular with home owners. The good news is that it won't take effect till 2019 (projections say 2020 for homeowners to actually feel it) so if you are planning on selling, maybe you want to do it before Jan 2019. The positives that are happening are in spite of his actions, not because of it. Basically the areas he isn't able to touch. The president is the #1 diplomat and the CIC of the Armed services, those are his primary responsibilities and even the American military is ignoring him, what does that say?
  3. So what you are saying is you regret how you started this latest tit for tat? Great!!!! Apology Accepted.
  4. Then I shall continue to treat you as the close minded ignorant jackass you represent yourself to be. You are just not an intelligent or knowledgeable person and I think we both know you will never be. I don't have to say any of this: 1) you know he hasn't been in office long enough to affect change and many of the things you cite as success the president has little to do with. You know this because other people smarter than both of us are saying it, you just CHOOSE not to believe it because you like to feed your own ignorance. 2) It's a shame you think that I think he is the root cause of all the awful things in america, because even I don't think that. - Trump didn't invent racism, or Nazi's, or white supremacy. The republican party has historically had white supremacy/nazi problem he is just not very experienced at handling it which is pretty much bad for everyone who isn't a nazi. - He didn't invent foreign influence. Foreign influence relies solely on the reputation and credibility of it's leader. Because he is inexperienced he is bad at cultivating his reputation and credibility and it has cost us our foreign relationships. Like it or not, this country needs foreign influence for foreign trade. His overall presentation feeds our enemies propaganda, you tell me how that isn't bad for us? Outside the US we are not seen as stable at the moment and who wants to do business with an unstable regime? The good news is that the rest of the world is sensible and all they have to do is wait.
  5. "History is written by the victors. History isn't really history until it's been re written. -Lawrence Ferlinghetti" "The one duty we have to history is to rewrite it. -Oscar Wilde (1854-1900), The Critic as Artist [1891]" "What is history after all? History is facts which become lies in the end; legends and lies which become history in the end. -Jean Cocteau (1889-1963), in _The Observer_ [sept 22, 1957]" "We" don't sanitize anything, the information is out there for us to learn if we seek it. Those who have a need to utilize the information for their own agenda edit as they see fit. Sometimes it is altruistic, sometimes it is malicious, it is our responsibility to evaluate the context and act accordingly.
  6. I think this is the most important lesson anybody can have learned from this.
  7. Were the other titles automotive? Roadkill magazine getting cut is no surprise to me, I was more surprised that there was a roadkill magazine in the first place. Seemed out of place and old fashioned for something that was a gamble on new media.
  8. It's your writing, you feel free to do so. Don't be so lazy.
  9. It's just more noise and churn. You are talking about an election that is 3 years off at most, who the fuck cares. Meanwhile there is a congressional election happening this year (nov 6th 2018). You can tell because we are hearing about emails and private servers again in the face of some major losses the republicans saw. Let's talk about something that is actually intellectual and not something Brandon read on facebook - If there is a wave of Democrat elections in swing states, as people are predicting, there is a chance that it could actually fuck over people who are moderate republicans. How? States with entrenched GOP politicians usually elect more extreme right leaning individuals than moderates, it's usually the swing states that elect moderate republicans. If the Democrats pull some of those swing states in the next election, then that means less moderate republicans in seats of power, which means there isn't going to be much to pull the GOP back to center. Here is what I am ok with about that scenario: - More democrats in power means less effective republicans, which means more bi-partisan working together on issues - If the republican party shifts more right, moderates like Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney are probably going to be out and maybe they will take their voters with them. I don't think Paul Ryan would be able to hold his current seat as Speaker of the House. Here is what scares the crap out of me about the GOP shifting more "right": - With the moderates out, it's possible they replace Ryan with someone more crazy. -This will further entrench the "Alt-Right", and all the evils it brings with it like Nazi's, in the legitimate political forum. - obstructionist republicans will have more power which may mean the ability for congress to accomplish anything may grind to a screeching halt. It all kind of depends on how many seats the Democrats win. I think it is time for people who are traditionally "moderate republicans" to Really take stock if the party still represents them. I think they may find it doesn't anymore. At that point there are only two choices - be more choosy about who they vote for in primaries, or jump ship. On a personal note: Tim, you really have to stop using a portmanteau of Hitler and Hilary if you don't want people to think of you as an antisemitic bigot. Or maybe you don't care that you are one and want people to know.
  10. Can someone explain to me the appeal of a 1/2 ton diesel at all? At this point pickup trucks are stupid expensive no matter how you slice it and the approx $9K difference between a Diesel F150 and a Diesel F250 Super Duty is kinda worth the extra half ton bed/cab capacity you get and the 15,000 lb towing capacity. Unless you own a cheating VW diesel, I really don't see the appeal of smaller diesel anything because the cost savings isn't really there.
  11. Except the 15-17 mustang was offered with a 6speed automatic, the 10 speed in the 2018 makes a difference. yeah yeah I know...auto LOL. Except in drag racing automatics actually have an advantage. Also tires make a huge difference. If the didn't there wouldn't be slicks or drag radials, or this current rivalry between big tire and small tire. I think without the PP the stock stang comes with PZero Nero All seasons (same on the hellcat) which are a different less sticky compound than the PZero Summer tires that the PP comes with. It will be interesting to see though once the cars do start hitting the forums. I think an actual drag prepped PP probably has way more in it than 11.8.
  12. can you back up this statement? or is it just, like, you opinion man?
  13. X-Plan is typically $300-$500 over invoice. Costco, Truecar, USAA, and pretty much anybody who "partners" with ford gets the same deal (I get the same thing through my work's employee car buying program). But you can say that about pretty much any car these days. I actually looked it up in my employee discounts website and I get about $1600 off a mustang, but I get $3000 off a challenger. I get about $2000 off a camaro.
  14. buying a new car is never looked at as a positive investment. no matter what you lose money. I know this board mostly hates leases but if you really think about it: leasing can be a better deal over financing sometimes. When you lease, you are basically paying the value of the depreciation of the car plus a lease charge to the leasing company (who really owns the vehicle). If you financed the car you lose that same amount of money over the same period of time, you pay a similar finance charge to the bank, and often you will still have 2 years left to go on the most common type of finance - the 60 month. If you pick a car that has really low depreciation (jeep, subaru, dodge challenger, etc) then there is a greater possibility to end up with "equity" in your lease. Most people don't realize this but you and the leasing company agree to a value of the depreciated car at the end of the lease (the buyout), and if you have a car that is worth more than the buyout - you have equity. Most of the time people don't end up with equity, and some that do don't realize it and allow the leasing company or the dealer to pocket that amount, but it can be reclaimed and used to lease the next car or even pocketed (by buying the car at the buyout price and selling it at the inflated price, sometimes in the same transaction). If you were in a 60 month finance, and I use the 60mos because it is (or was) the most popular and has a monthly payment that is usually similar to a 36mos lease, you would still have 2 years of payments and depreciation to endure, and to exit the situation you would have a more difficult time and possibly incur more costs. Sure at the end of 5 years you may have an asset but you have actually lost more money than if you leased because you held the asset for longer. Switching gears for a second: how much do you think it would cost to run 10 seconds in this car? Figure you could do it all with bolt ons: Drag radials, tune, cold air kit, etc...how much are you spending? At what point is the NHRA going to need you to put a cage in the car? I wonder if we might be entering the era of the "rent a racer", where it makes more sense to lease a toy like a 2018 mustang, buy the bolt ons, use the car as a strip monster, and then at the end of the lease, take the speed parts off - turn in the car and buy a 2020 mustang, reinstall the parts, and do it again. When they change the design then you sell the parts to someone who bought theirs and start the process over again with the next generation.
  15. The GT Performance Package includes: • 19" X 9" (F) 19" X 9.5" ® Ebony Black-painted Aluminum • 255/40R19 (F) 275/40R19 ® Summer Only Tires • Brembo ™ Six-Piston Front Brake Calipers with Larger Rotors • "Engine Spun" Aluminum Instrument Panel • Gauge Pack (Oil Pressure and Vacuum) • Heavy-duty Front Springs • K-Brace • Larger Radiator • Performance Rear Wing (Fastback Only) • Silver Painted Strut-Tower Brace • Spoiler Delete (Convertible Only) • TORSEN® Differential with 3.73 Axle Ratio (Manual) • TORSEN® Differential with 3.55 Axle Ratio (Automatic) • Unique Chassis Tuning • Unique EPAS, ABS and Stability Control Tuning • Upsized Rear Sway Bar Some of this stuff is just farkle like the engine spun alloy panel, but I would like to think the K-brace, strut tower brace, Larger Radiator, summer tires, Heavier front springs, and the firmer bushings that fall under "unique chassis tuning" all contributed to the 11 second time. Ford uses the Trak-Lok unit right? Jeep used to use trak-lok in the XJs, YJs, and ZJs, if they are remotely setup the same then it's not really a great LSD. Even the Auburn Posi in my GTO's 10 bolt was better. A Torsen is a geared mechanical LSD - it's hard to say whether you'd still run 11.8's without it.
  16. I agree with your position on legalization, but I’m trying to help you see it from another perspective. The tendrils of all these policies stretch far and wide over our history and have some really ugly roots. Through an understanding of where we came from can we know where we are going. I’m not a big fan of dismissing politicians as “stupid” or out of touch because often they aren’t. They are advocates for their constituents so often they don’t even own their public opinions. To say JS is out of touch is dismissive and that itself can be dangerous because it underestimates him.
  17. I can’t argue with that, but that’s a different mustang. Also you aren’t getting the 11 second mustang for $36k, the minimum equipment to run the 11s hot rod did requires the performance pack (which has the 3.55 rear with Torsen posi, and a host of other stuff) and the 10 speed which porks the price up to $41k and change. Im not saying it still isn’t a good deal but you are in scat pack territory with a $41k price tag.
  18. Nerp. 2018 ecoboost mustang is $25,585 for stripper spec. Ecoboost Premium is $30,600. the difference between the two is leather seats (with heating and cooling), turnsignal mirrors, and variable shocks. Cheapest 2018 Challenger R/T is $32,995. That's within $3K of an ecoboost mustang and I could easily see an enthusiast cross shopping a loaded eco-boost against a stripper V8 challenger, just because of that V8. sure you can add factory incentives which could push an optioned out ecoboost into high $20K, but yesterday when fooling around with the configurator, the incentives, and various discounts was able to get an RT price to $29K so...I'd say they are still in the ball park. And we haven't even gotten into leasing yet. You can get a V8 chally for $270 a month for 36 mos. You can't touch an ecoboost for that (Premium is $344, base is $287). If it were up to me? V8 Challenger all day every day over an ecoboost mustang.
  19. I hate automatics with the fire of 1000 suns, but that doesn't mean I can't be impressed with one. With regard to the 10speed I think you are thinking about this the wrong way. The advantage of having a lot of gears is that you can have the gear ratios closer together to minimize the rpm drop between shifts. It isn't that the powerband is that thin, it's not thin at all, it's just that the wider the ratio between the gears the more power that is lost that needs to be built back up. The powerbad is still broad, you just don't need a broad powerband after 1st gear if you can shift faster than lightening and keep the tires churning at max HP. Tall 1st gear and tall rear gears = high shock load, low traction, greater gear splits leading to less overall efficiency or longevity. But it will feel like a tractor pulling v8 Short 1st gear with tall rear gears = low initial shock load, high traction, close ratio gear splits for better fuel efficiency but will feel like it has no bottom end and highest gear might be completely useless under 100mph. Tall 1st gear with short rear gears = tolerable shock load, manageable traction (with launch control), close ratios gear splits for putting moar power down and better fuel efficiency, top gear won't be useless, and it will still feel like a goddamn red meat eating, waitress fucking, six pack drinking V8.
  20. 1: Nice to speak for him, give the guy a chance will ya? 2: I can only put the information in front of him. The choice to seek knowledge or remain ignorant is entirely his. eh...by the end of 4 years every single person of note who experienced this administration is going to have a tell all book. This will probably make a pretty good companion for reigning in the Bannon book on Trump. How did you have any faith in him to start? IIRC correctly the majority of our pre-election conversations focused on how much you disliked the other candidate and how you are "historically" republican, doesn't really have anything to do with trump. Here is my general question to the group: If you voted for Trump, do you feel like you owe any responsibility to the current situation? I mean, we are in a noted swing state that has always carried a lot of influence, so Ohio going red directly contributed his election. And it isn't like there were not ample warning signs that he was batshit crazy and completely unprofessional. So if did vote for him, and don't support him now, do you feel guilty about it? What has this taught you?
  21. Historically? read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_history_of_cannabis_in_the_United_States#Uniform_State_Narcotic_Drug_Act_%281925%E2%80%931932%29 Then read this pages 25-38: https://books.google.com/books?id=flIjcQBwu68C&pg=PA37#v=onepage&q&f=false I know you don't have an understanding of how disparate impact works (I think in the past you called it "Victim mentality" which is retarded) but this is how it works. You find something associated with a group of people you want to fuck over and then you use criminalization of that thing to fuck them over. It looks like you are doing something legit because it doesn't reference that group specifically, but that group is most affected by it. When it comes to drugs the answer to "that group" is almost always blacks and Latinos (specifically Mexicans). Something like this dovetails nicely with Trumps build a wall rhetoric. It isn't that he's out of touch, Sessions isn't stupid, it's that he's a person in a position of power and if he says things like this confidently and often enough people will eventually believe it (because they want to). It's the combination of oversimplification, rationalization, and repetition as propaganda tools. It's a smaller more tame version of "The Big Lie" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_lie) type of propaganda (which the current administration seems so fond of) that feeds into some people's bias confirmation. There is plenty of information to refute literally everything he has said, but if you are already in his camp why would you want to? and if you aren't, this administration has painted all detractors as "the liberal enemy" not to be believed or trusted. This is how the world really works, junior.
  22. Woah: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/drag-testing-the-2018-ford-mustang-gt/ highlights: some things to discuss: - the cheapest you can get a 2018 GT MSRP with the performance pack and 10 speed trans is $41K, so is the mustang still a performance bargain? - With the EcoBoost stang and the GT moving up market in both HP and cost, are we seeing the end of the affordable v8 musclecar? To get into a V8 Camaro or Mustang it costs mid-high $30K, only the challenger can put you in a v8 for around the same price as an EcoBoost mustang, and I don't think chevy has anything V8 at that same level. ok...discuss
  23. FWIW, if they are actually going to sue you, they usually don't telegraph that play beforehand by sending a letter unless they are legally required to.
  24. Criminal law is not my specialty so I may bungle this a little but here it goes: Let's be fair about this a little: The police were called, One of the officers reviewed what I presume is the security footage, and then declined to take a report for assault. Maybe at the scene someone could have pushed a little harder, but you can't force an officer to make an arrest or even file a report against their judgement. Whether the officer made the right call or not, nobody here can say, maybe he looked at the footage and saw it was an accident and wanted to save everyone a trip and a night of filling out paperwork, maybe there is no footage and he just took the restaurant owners word for it. Who knows, but once they left the scene, pretty much that ship has sailed. One of the other problems here, is that the establishment controls the security footage (if there is any), so there isn't evidence to justify filing a complaint for assault a couple days later, esp if there isn't a mark or a bruise. Which brings me to my second point, it's hard to file a civil suit for physical assault when you can't really show injury. Nobody licensed to practice law would touch this case pro bono, hot shot or otherwise. When I did workers compensation "soft tissue" cases (brusies, very small cuts, etc) were considered "bad cases" because the injury usually heals fast with no lingering effects. The point of a civil lawsuit is to try and use money to put you back to whole, and if your body is going to do that on it's own - what whole is there to put back to? This kind of social activism usually relies on the anonymity of the customer to protect from litigation. In this case, the restaurant knows who he is because they sent him a letter at home, which means he might take the brunt on this form of social justice. The law isn't clear in this area because of the newness of the technology.
