The only real experience I have with Bilt is the gloves. They turned my FIL's hands blue because the dye bled like a wet towel. I also put them in the "shit" category because he bought them and he's notoriously cheap and usually paying the price later for his "thriftiness". Others may have real world experience of their own, but I think they're basically the Harbor Freight of motorcycle gear. It will work in a pinch, but don't expect it to perform like a $1500 Roadcrafter suit.

Good gear costs money. @RidersDiscount is our amazing sponsor that helps offset those costs with excellent deals on gear. I'm sure Mike would be happy to show you what they have to offer.

I'm glad you mentioned dye bleeding.  That's exactly what I want to stay away from.  "Harbor Freight of motorcycle gear," LOL.   You convinced me...  thanks.

Since your OP states that you are looking for "water proof over pants"  I would suggest "Moose" They have the larger sizes you need. Gortex waterproof will limit your choice and cost more. I just completed a Adventure Ride in November with someone on a new Honda AT and he had a 2 piece Firstgear riding suite that was sized for over the pants. great gear with a nice price. Good luck.

    B.

Thanks!  I never hear of Moose.  I'll have to check it out.
I was caught at 4AM outside of Buffalo in a thunderstorm.
I had an old rubber rain suit which blocked wind and rain, but no ventilation.
It held up, even at 80mph.
It did the trick in a pinch but it's time to get some serious gear.

Some states allow passing slow moving vehicles on double yellow. car wasn't going the speed limit.

I know, each state and local enforces laws a bit different.
In Ohio, with a wink and a nod, you can pass on a solid yellow.
If the car is going real slow and driving on the right shoulder, like a Mail Carrier, it's ok to pass.
It's either pass or impede traffic.
And as a motorcycle I sure as hell am not going to impede traffic.  That's suicide.
But if there's an accident because you crossed the solid yellow you will be, more than likely, at fault.

Here's the official say from The United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (federal laws trumps state laws) on the double yellow from: https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/services/publications/fhwaop02090/twtmarkings_longdesc.htm

Why are you hoping the biker was sighted?

The biker was driving illegally by crossing the double yellow.
The bottom line is: that's clearly illegal as shown on the video.
Some cagers really get pissed off by the liberties taken by some bikers, so this is what happens.
And don't get me wrong, I hope the cager spends all 15 years in prison.
The cager could have killed the bikers and there are no excuses for that.

I've got a Rev'it jacket, Tourmaster pants, Klim base layers, and held gloves. I am not brand loyal (Except Helmets. Shoei for Life :D) Pretty much any big name brand has something in the category you're looking for. @RidersDiscount can hook you up with some awesome deals btw. Might wanna give them a call or IM.

Thanks man... I appreciate it.  I've heard good things from Rev'It and it's a deal I need.  I'll check out RidersDiscount and bare in mind to get what I need and not one brand will necessarily be the right choice.  I never heard of RidersDiscount so agian, thanks for the info.

BTW - Bilt has a bunch of good deals on Bilt stuff.  In your opinion, is Bilt any good?

It was a smart ass comment.  If they suck, then why did you list them?

I have a lot of gear from a number of manufacturers,  including some Firstgear and Klim items.  They are waterproof, breathable, and very comfortable.  Price was less of an issue for me.  I bought them based on reviews by long distance riders.  Motorcycle gear is truly very subjective.  Good luck in your search!

I think I made it pretty obvious that I don't know my gear, but if it's a smart ass comment you offer and wise response you expect from a self admitted ignoramus on the subject then I think your expectations are much too high.  The list is from from Revzilla.  If you can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Each of those manufacturers has multiple pieces that are waterproof and breathable. Gear is highly subjective to fit,  quality,  and comfort.  You should try them on to know what will work best for you.

Anything but Aerostitch, Klim, and Firstgear sucks and should never be worn.

I got a Firstgear jacket... practically a hand-me-down and it sucks.
Klim is very expensive... overrated from what I hear by some.

  8. I'm looking to get riding pants with CE armor which I can easily wear over pants.
I'm planning on wearing it for my next long ride, 1,500 miles.
I'm going to buy the matching jacket while I'm at it.
But, I need your help because I have no idea which is best.
This will be my first "official" riding gear.

It has to be water proof, of quality, breathable, comfortable and most affordable.

So, of the list below... which 5 would you pick?
If you want to leave a reason, brand name, even a jacket suggestion too that would be helpful.

    01 Aether
    02 AGV Sport
    03 Alpinestars
    04 Cortech
    05 Dainese
    06 Firstgear
    07 Fly Street
    08 Held
    09 Klim
    10 Moose Racing
    11 Olympia
    12 REV'IT!
    13 Rukka
    14 Scorpion
    15 Spidi

Given the braking function of the xDrive Hybrid system, BMW changed from a dual-disc to a single-disc brake setup on the front wheel, saving 6.4 pounds of unsprung weight, which more than offsets the 1.9-pound weight of the wheel hub e-Drive. Overall curb weight of the motorcycle is said to be unchanged.

Hmmm... interesting... but, an electric motor can act as a break.

    Source: http://ridermagazine.com/2017/03/31/bmw-introduces-r-1200-gs-xdrive-hybrid-two-wheel-drive-motorcycle/

Rider Magazine StaffMarch 31, 2017 "Yes, you read that headline correctly. BMW Motorrad has developed and tested a two-wheel drive version of its R 1200 GS Adventure, claiming it’s “the world’s first series-production all-wheel drive travel enduro with hybrid drive.”

Unlike the mechanical all-wheel drive (AWD) system made by Christini for dirt bikes, BMW’s xDrive Hybrid system uses a 45-horsepower electric motor housed in the front wheel hub. When activated and combined with the air/liquid-cooled, 125-horsepower, shaft-driven boxer twin engine that powers all R-series models, the R 1200 GS xDrive Hybrid makes a combined 170 horsepower (claimed).

BMW says that making the front wheel driven provides superior traction in slippery, low-traction conditions, much like all-wheel drive cars, and the xDrive Hybrid system was originally developed by BMW’s automotive division. All-wheel drive can be operated automatically or manually by the rider via the 2WD (2-Wheel Drive) switch located on the left handlebar’s switchgear, activating the wheel-hub e-Drive system that functions both as electric motor and generator."

You don't need to sell me on the internet, it's not at all the point.  Yes. I can watch any movie I want, anytime, commercial free on via the internet or on TV.

You're too busy living to watch TV, but you're aren't too busy living to play on the internet???  It's a silly statement to make and an arbitrary line to draw.

LOL... learning for life, bro...  and then living the dream! +)

OK, so watching a movie or tv series on tv is no good, but watching the same thing on the internet is better...somehow?  It seems infinitely arbitrary to me.

If you are talking about a technology time suck, I would say the internet is worse.  Probably far worse, but to each their own...and stuff.

Edit:  The lines between TV/Streaming/internet are blurry if they even exist anymore.  They overlap more than they don't.  I don't follow the logic in saying one is acceptable but not the other :dunno:

Can you fast forward through the commercials? No, unless you recorded the show first.
Can you watch that move at 2PM if it is scheduled at 8PM?  Nope.
Do you have an infinite source of people contributing to "How To Do It" like programs with details specific to your needs?  Nope again.

But in the world of Internet you can.
If you are not on the Internet now, which it is obvious you are not, otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation

As a friend let me introduce you to a wonderful world like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory...  it begins with a little program called Google Chrome.
You type anything you want to know in it and out comes a magical world of goodness?

How is the internet any better than television?  In some ways it's much worse.

Infinitely better...  for the inquisitive mind and everything on demand.
Build a deck, fix a car, fabricate a part, learn to program, get a recipe, acquire coupons, check the weather, get a deal on travelling, check your financial status...
And if you want to watch a movie, or a TV series... anything, any time, anywhere.
Did you really have to ask?

As the parent of a 17 year old, fucking toss that television and buy fishing poles, skateboards, bicycles and hiking shoes.
    Fuck. That. Television.

    Absolutely and well said!
    I haven't owned a TV for 30 years.
I'm too busy living to watch TV.

Cancelling DirecTV felt way better than it should have.  Went Sling on my already jail broken Firesticks.

    $140/month down to $35/month.  That's almost a motorcycle payment ;)

    Did the same...  good deal.

My wifes uncle is a extreme old school HD rider. We were talking once and he told me that he never uses the front brakes because it can flip you over the handle bars. At first I thought he was kidding but he was not. :nono:

Ha... ha... back in the day the banana seat  used to be popular too.
That's the problem with this generation (chuckle), they weren't raised right and can't appreciate the pleasure of geology close up at 50+ mph.

You guys use the rear brake? :dunno:

I never use the rear brake... on my old CX500 I used to just grab a fist full of front brake and practice my gymnastic landing skills.  BMW solved that with anti-locking brakes.
