Tim.. If I had to guess, your speculation is correct about the turbo oil seal. My GTI with a KO3s is starting to do the same and it's simply from over-boost and mods. They're such a small turbo that they generate an enormous amounts of heat and they tend to have a short life after upping the boost so much. Keep in mind they were intended on running 8-10psi from factory; while after being chipped I'm spiking 23 and holding 19-20psi. What happens to me personally, is that after idling for say 5-10 minutes I will get the obvious blue smoke which indicates burning oil, not to mention the putrid smell. If I drive the car it goes away and no smoke under WOT conditions and no smoke at start up. You can do as kenny says and check the exhaust side of the turbo for any obvious signs of leakage. I don't think there is a way to prevent this, post stressful mods. Many on vortex are aware of this problem as well, and although they have installed turbo timers and etc, it doesn't seem to be of much help. I always try to give my car some extra idle time to cool down if I take a hard, short trip..

Why does everyone have to make sequels or remakes? I didn't see any of the originals because they all looked lame as shit, and I wont be seeing any of the sequels. None of those movies interest me.. I would like to see something new with a twist.

My MAF caused my car to load up on fuel in half throttle conditions and run lean up top.. Unfortunately the MAF cleaner didn't help my problem either. Will your car run without the MAF? I simply had to un-plug mine(of course I had a CEL) and let the ECU run off it's learned tune and that pointed my problem directly to the MAF. If you can get away with that, give it a shot. If you have someone local, try swapping with a known good unit. EDIT* I've heard of people having problems with air filters being really dirty and running into problems like this. Have you cleaned or recharged yours lately? before I found a faulty MAF, I found mine was filthy when I was troubleshooting my own problems .

Good call.. MAF was going bad on my VW and it was doing some weird things.

My first thought would be a fuel pump or even dirty injectors, and even more unlikely, Fuel Pressure Regulator? I don't know common failing points of Subarus but I would look into those before anything else. Depending how easy it is to get to your injectors I would inspect those first, simple to clean and could be an easy fix. Fuel pump, I don't know of any specific way to test that it's flowing properly or showing signs of failure, but do you have a fuel pressure gauge you can use? Process of elimination I suppose.. Another thing that occured to me, what type of fuel do you run through the car? I'm curious to know when gas stations start doing their winter fuel mixes(If there is such a thing?).. you could be seeing that difference?
