  1. Hey all-

A really good friend of mine got this from her father when he passed away and wanted me to help her sell it. As I know virtually nothing about bikes I thought I would ask on here.

    Here is the link:

    https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2003-Harley-Davidson-DYNA+WIDE+GLIDE+ANNIVERSARY+EDITION-5002646323/?zmc=paa-active-listing

She is editing the ad to say she has most if not all of the original anniversary edition parts.

    Thanks!

    Andrew

  2. Finally having a few tacks in place, I pulled the crossmember again and attempted to finish weld it.

    WTF!!!!!!

I was getting desperate here. My father had gotten ill and I was trying to get this thing back on the road before he passed as it was a father son project of sorts.

I again reached out to Tinman Matt for advice and he was gracious enough to offer to drive all the way out to the farm where the car is located to help.

With the engine supported in place by the cherry picker and half the suspension removed, the project was not going anywhere.

Giving up my pride and forfeiting the ability to weld, test, weld, test, I decided to take it to a pro and have them try and fix it for me.

He took one look at the nastiness, pulled out his high powered mig welder and buried my issues in beautiful welds. I need a mig setup and lots more practice.

  3. Yay! Glad it was put to good use! I want a ride when the car is done ;)

    You got it bro!

Considering the car was setup for a generation one sbc, one would think a set of these would have made the swap simple:

Of course not. After trying every set of holes available (even considering slotting the last set) they were a no go. Next, I considered relocating the transmission and getting another new driveshaft, but then realized I could not as the transmission is already about as rearward as it can go without the bellhousing making contact with the firewall tunnel.

After several more days of deliberation, I decided I had to make a new set of mounts. I got a set of these off of eBay and started to work.

Since, I was already keeping the 355 sbc for posterity (no one would pay anything for a turnkey 300+ hp sbc) I decided I would keep the matching swapped crossmember as well. I located another AMC factory cross member and got the cutoff wheel ready.

After setting and pulling the engine and or new old crossmember about 20 times, notching, prying, tilting, praying, and countless harassing messages to Tinman Matt on here for advice, I had the engine where I wanted it.

I attempted to tack the mounts I had cut and ground using cardboard templates to the bottom section I had cut and ground and welded to meet. Having only a tig setup, hanging over the fenders upside down, it was not a surprise that the rubber in the mounts caught on FIRE and began to melt contaminating my weld area.

  4. The next order of business was to remove the existing 355 gen 1 sbc.

Not being able to easily maneuver the tractor front loader within the confines of the garage we were in need of a cherry picker.

I asked CR if anyone knew where I could rent one and lo and behold Clay was more than generous to offer that I could borrow his as long as I needed. I told him I would buy a load leveler for it that he could keep afterwards...DEAL. Thank you so much Clay!

  5. Thanks for the inquiry Clay! Unfortunately, all I have left is the 4.10 front axle...

I first separated the 6.0 LQ4 from the truck...

and then proceeded to use a combination of Craigslist and eBay to sell the rest of it over the next few months. We loaded up the shell and sold it for almost another $200.00 in scrap value.

The van wasn't as cheap as I originally thought after the ridiculous fees were assessed but I still ended up making about $200.00 selling it as is for someone who wanted the engine and transmission.

Word to the wise. RUN and DRIVE, does not mean runs and drives.

  6. After a few weeks chasing criminals with low cost clean title express vans that refused to meet at police stations in cleveland or cincy, I looked to the salvage auctions....

After a couple more weeks, I found this.

    b3fe6bc3d55329974addb45ebc27f0d0.jpg

    AND this...

    428e3906b2e2b7517eaf53a41f5215a6.jpg

I focused my bidding on the Silverado and last minute threw a bid on the honda that was too cheap to pass on and I ended up winning both of them...!!!

  7. We put the battery charger on and, discouraged as we were, didn't touch it all for about a week.

With a fully charged battery it cranked and cranked with no fire. We could see and smell the fuel blowing out the carb shooters so we knew fuel wasn't the issue. We pulled a plug and wire and discovered that we had no spark.

We bypassed the MSD ignition and still no spark. After verifying the coil had 12 volts to it and still no spark we went rifling through my dad's collection of old hotrod parts. By chance we found a mallory coil he had used on his 1967 Corvette and removed before selling it. We hooked it up and adapted the coil plug wire to the newer style plug using some accessories he had with his old school timing light setup.

Crank Vroom it started right up. No click, no hesitation, no bs. Turned it off, turned it on, off, on, off, on- no click. Apparently all this time we were chasing a failing coil. We checked the old coil and it had MegaOhm resistance so it was a huge load on the starting system even without the rear mount battery. I wonder if this was also the cause of the deadspot. Oh well live and learn.

In the week of discouragement I had read an article about a fellow that bought a wrecked express van and parted it out completely ending up with a 6.0 LS engine with a set of used LS3 heads and intake for free after netting the cost of the vehicle and parts with the proceeds from the rest of the vehicle. Having had it with the issues of this combo and realizing that even with the dead spot fixed we were still going to be limited with the old tech iron double hump heads or spend $$$$ on a set of AFR or Darts for this old sbc, I started scouring the classifieds for LS equipped Express Vans.

  8. I would but this swap required an almost 500.00 pan figuring pan/pickup and dipstick and don't want to mess it up!!

I have a 10an bulkhead fitting I will prob drill and then weld my factory cover when I have it off

  9. Looking at these...

I don't think push loc can handle the heat of a front mount turbo ls setup for tranny coolant lines. It currently has steel hard lines but they leak and won't work with my new setup.

Seems like a lot for two lines and a few fittings and have to loop about a foot out of the way on each one.

    Thanks!

  10. We modified the truck carb to work with the dual feed fuel setup on the gremlin, adjusted the floats and idle mixture screws using a vacuum gauge and headed back to the track.

It felt much more responsive with the smaller vac secondary carb and the dead spot was gone again for the time being.

MCIR was exceptionally busy and we knew we wouldn't get a lot of runs in. After 2 hours waiting as a result of a several track cleanup delays in a row, we only had two cars ahead of us. Hoping to keep it cool for the coveted 12 second run we had not let it idle. CLICK......CLICK....... CLICK...........CLCLCLCLICK..... AARGH!!!!

The dreaded click and no start condition was back and this time after about 50 attempts it would NOT start!! We reluctantly got out and pushed it all the way out of staging lanes and back to the parking area.

We hooked up the jumper cables to my dad's Cherokee and while it would crank hooked to the jeep it refused to fire. We checked to make sure we had fuel in the fuel cell............Yep.

    With heads hung low

we hooked up the custom tow bar setup and towed it all the way home.

  11. Oops missed all these- came to copy ad to post on craigslist- yes I asked and from my understanding everything works, I do not have any other pics and the I am sure they would love an offer. Let me know if anyone wants to see it and I will pass the contact info your way.

  12. I also support the lt1 as a lot of bang for the buck- it is the best second gen small block and factory aluminum heads are great compared to anything but a set of afr or darts which will cost more than the entire engine compared to a set of generation one double hump heads or generation two vortec setup

Anything more than 400 hp and associated v8 torque will shred that Porsche drivetrain anyhow. A GM HOT cam, tune, headers, and 1.6 rockers would put a 3700 lb fbody in the 12s back in the day. Port a set of stock heads and about guaranteed IIRC. One guy with a wilder cam, tb, and the rest above and speed density got 12.0 at 120 but he was a legend, swore it was a blueprinted 350 not a 383.

Also you can get around VATS (resistor) and tune a lot cheaper yourself with LT1edit vs having to buy hptuners or pay a tuner just to get it to start outside of the vehicle it came in.
