5th ave fret shop

 

Another vote for 5th ave. fret shop. They set up my strat and it was excellent. Its a cool little environment there too.

The clutch is the same age as the rebuild on the engine, which I would say is around 20,000 miles. The engine as enough grunt that it could handle the final drive being swapped to a 3.08 or so. If one needed more grunt, theres always granny gear.

It is actually a 4 speed out of a heavier duty Chevy with a 1st gear granny gear. It would be pretty slick with a Muncie or something like that though. Also the engine upgrades are long tube headers, Borla mufflers, MSD ignition, a mild truck cam, electric fan and an Edelbrock dual plane intake and carb. I need to plant a lot of trees. I have 2 acres, and only 2 tiny little trees.

 

Somewhere I read that you can plant trees to help your heating and cooling system be more efficient. I can't remember all the specifics but it goes like this: Plant deciduous trees on the south side of your house, when they lose their leaves in the winter they allow the sun to hit your house, thus warming it and they shade it in the summer. Plant evergreens on the north side, they serve as a wind block in the winter and shade in the summer. I get the east and west sides confused, but you put deciduous on one side and evergreens on the other. I think it is evergreens on the west because it blocks the wind and snow in the winter and blocks heavy storms in the summer, but you get the point.

I just wondered if people tried to make their footprint less. If you use less energy you are at some level making an impact, or less of an impact.

 

I enjoy things like air, clean water, you know ... creature comforts.

 

I am not a 7th level tree hugger or anything, I just wondered if anyone was making attempts to be more friendly.

 

We are using CFLs. However our dimmer lights are still Edisons. I haven't found any dimmable CFLs for under $12 per bulb yet.

 

We try to take our own grocery bags to the grocery too. However, if you take your old bags back to Kroger they will recycle them.

 

Hilliard requires its residents to pay around $75 per year for waste disposal. This includes garbage and yard waste as well as a recycling service. If you go to the city building they will give you the bins for free. We started recycling and it cut our trash bags per week from 4+ to 1-2.

 

I want to improve the insulation in my house as the budget allows. Also we try to unplug as much appliances as we can when we are not using them because many use power even when they are off. Your tv is a good example of this. When a tv is off but plugged in, it stays in a "standby" mode where it consumes power so that when you turn it on it takes less time to warm up.

 

We also do the usual turn lights off when leaving a room, turn heat down when gone etc.

Up for sale is my 72 C10. For those of you not familiar this is the last year of this style and it came with disk brakes up front. It has an 8 foot bed and is 2wd. The engine is a pretty fresh 350 with mild improvements. The transmission is a 4 speed manual and the rearend is 3.73. The cab has no rust, it has had the floor boards, rocker panels and cab corners replaced. The bed could use a little work. The truck runs and drives great, it just needs a bit of detail oriented work and a good home.

LeVan's in West Liberty did some good work on my Cobra, but that is probable too far away for you.

Thats a 2000 Cobra R wing, but yeah I'm not a fan either. I personally like the 03/04 integrated spoiler, or none at all like the Bullitt.

If I didn't say this before chances are a Mustang older than say 99 needs new motor mounts and possibly rear control arm bushings. I put new motor mounts in my Cobra and it got rid of noises that I thought were caused by other problems. It was like driving a new car. I think they may have improved the mounts in 99. It may just be easier and cheaper to buy replacement upper rear control arms from Maximum Motorsports than replacing the bushings in the old ones.

 

Also chances are that the stock differential needs rebuilt. I had alot of inside wheel spin even with a fresh diff when I was in street mod. I think this was because of the soft springs and worn out dampers were causing my inside tire to unload. When I prepped the car for ESP I put in a Torsen T2R with 3.55 gears and it was one of the best things I ever did for the car. Oh I wish I had that car back.

I think a well prepped ESP 94-95 Cobra would be a strong car.

I won't want the IRS, it's proven to be no faster and those cars are classed the same in SCCA plus they're newer and out of my price range.

A Thunderchicken though?? No thanks, those cars are pigs though I raced one once in my turbo laser and lost by a hair, they're quick in the straight at least, and we all know how factory adjustable suspensions good for the track as you never see a car with them.

 

Sam Strano seems to think that the IRS Cobras would make good F-Stock cars but nobody has ever really made a serious run with one other than Dave Schotz. Back in 02 or so Schotz autocrossed an 01 Cobra and came close to winning at nationals but fell short. It was later discovered that he had a blown out shock.

 

When I prepped my car for ESP I put an IRS in it and was very pleased. I think with the addition of some 4.10 gears and staying on good tires I could have made a run at SM locally. It would have made a great open track car too. If you could find my old car that would be your best bet lol! If I did it over again I would've gotten an 01+ Gt and prepped it for F-stock and raced for a while and then prepped it for ESP. I think that an 01+ GT could compete well enough locally. Or a good strong 96-98 Cobra. Although neither are ideal for F-stock these days.

Ben I used to autocross my red 97 Cobra in Street Mod a couple of years ago, then I switched it over to ESP but my priorities shifted and I got rid of it. If you are interested in building a Mustang for autocross you can contact me and I can give you a ton of info as far as parts, classes, update/backdate etc. The great thing about a Mustang is the update/backdate because anything between 94 and 04 is fair game. You may be able to find a 96-98 Cobra for around what that GT is listed at. For any of the 96-98 cars figure on changing the motor mounts. As far as the 96-98 Cobras the 98 was the best followed by the 97 and then the 96. The 96 had some cooling system recalls so if you look at one of those make sure those changes have been done. As mentioned by others, the 96-98 GT is pretty weak but I think any of them could make a great ESP car. The problem with PI swap as far as the SCCA is concerned is that the engine has to be swapped as a complete unit, unless the 99 up GT engines use the same block, crank and pistons as the 96-98 units - and I am not sure this is the case. I do know that in 01 the compression ratio of the GTs increased a slight amount. You may be able to find a 96-98 Cobra for what this GT is listed at.

Is it a 6 or a 4 cylinder?

What engine and transmission are in your Jeep? Is it 2 or 4 wheel drive?

A long shot since you said it needs to be a 4 banger but I have a 72 Chevy C10 (2wd) with a 350.

How far outside of Columbus do you travel?

You would be suprised . There is still some work that can be done but at least the dampers and springs reeled in the squat, dive, and roll to managable levels. Of course I still can't keep up with many of the well driven better sports cars out there.
