Yeah, might be time to let that one go

Sometimes I get PC's given to me by friends/family since they "upgraded". I usually toss the HDD in the trash and get another one, then gift it to someone that wants it. Perhaps that may be an option for your laptop? Instead of trying to "remove" the virus, just either wipe it out or buy a new drive and install the OS fresh.

Adorama is the "Newegg" of camera gear. I got my T1i there and have been playing with lenses myself, though many of mine are older non-IS/Cheap-o ones.

one mans trash is another mans treasure...... Anyway, i7 875k might be the next "server", we'll see.

Sometimes the journey is the fun part, whether it gets completed or not. Deep down you know the answer here, you just want it reinforced so your mind can rest at ease and you don't feel guilt when you walk away.

I'm about an hour from Cleveland. My driveway is also just over 100' long, but I don't park in the garage when we are supposed to get snow so unless the wife needs out of the garage, I don't have to clear the whole length. As I said though, for the one time we really get dumped on, I should be ok with the electric. It's just something to save my back and get in to work as opposed to doing a full on clearing of the driveway. I'll clear myself a path to the road and call the plow man if it's THAT bad out.

Hmm, newegg combo enticed me into an eVga 758 SLi mobo for $70 after rebates.

I only need it for my driveway and if only once, it was money well spent. It's not one of the little "power shovel kind", it's actually a single stage 18 x 10" so it should be fine for my limited use. My neighbor has one similar and it did a really good job so I think it will be ok. I just couldn't see spending $400+ for a decent gas one I might use once a year or couple years. Plus trying to get someone back here to plow the driveway out is next to impossible since the city usually plows our area last.

No thanks! ;-) I am digging the monitor setup though. I only have two right now, I have a third but I don't keep it on my main rig anymore. I would like to add two more but I can't find the match to my original Westinghouse screens anymore and i'm picky like that. I don't want to go plop the money for a matched set of 4 right now either. My main rig is currently: Asus P6T Deluxe Intel i7 980x @ 4GHz (It'll do 4.4+) 6x2GB DDR3-1333 BFG Tech GTX275 2x73GB 15k RPM SAS HDD's in Raid WD 640GB Black WD 1TB Green Gigabyte Odin GT 800W PSU 2 Westinghouse 19" LCD Monitors Samsung DVD Burner High Speed PC tech Station "Case" Vantec Rheobus for fan control XSPC Delta v3 Water Block BIX III Radiator MCP-655 Pump Yate Loon High Speed 120mm Fans all around Samsung CLP-315W Wireless Color Laser Printer Brother MFC-420CN Networked Printer/Scanner/Copier/Etc. My "server" machine was originally an Asus Intel Atom but it was quite underwhelming. It barely had enough power to get out of it's own way let alone do any actual work. Currently my server is the following: Intel E7500 Core 2 Duo Stock Intel Heatsink Asrock G43Twins-FullHD Motherboard 2x2GB DDR3-1333 Dell FP2001 Monitor Generic 500W Psu Seagate 640GB Sata Drive WD 1tb Green HDD Sata DVD Burner My spare rig is: Intel i7 965 EE 3x1GB DDR3-1066 probably an eVga 758 SLI Board (haven't decided yet since I got rid of the x58 Extreme) Probably 9800GTX or 9800GX2 Holy hell, I just realized I have WAY too many dam parts around. I could probably build a couple more systems with the stuff I have sitting around not being used right now.

I grabbed an electric one off of ebay for $150 shipped and it was new, aside from that or a store sale it's hard to score a deal on one.
-
Mine is in a constant state of build. I don't think I leave it alone for very long before I change something else on it.

Holy vcore batman. :bangbang: Edit, the OP is just my main system. http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/6144/0000005.th.jpg http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9265/0000002u.th.jpg http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4925/0000003ng.th.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/2457/0000004.th.jpg Sold off the x58 Extreme when I got the 980x and upgraded to a P6T Deluxe. Swapped the 8800GTS for a GTX275 as well. I have a few more parts/pieces/systems in the house: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1013/i7965.jpg Sold the x58 Extreme though, don't know what board i'll replace it with yet. My old Xeon DP: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5605/l5609150bclk.png Fun little chip but the low multi was a killer. Old Xeon W3580 with unlocked multi: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8927/w358027xmulti.jpg Sadly, it got recalled on me. My "server" and torrent box is an E7500 on an Asrock G43 board. It only pulls 73w from the wall at full load so its a nice little storage center and downloader. http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/710/1002282d.th.jpg Swapped the DDR2 for DDR3 now but otherwise it's the same.

Ok, this post by nitrousbird got me thinking, How many more nerds are here? BTW, I've since upped the ante a tad: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1505578 http://valid.canardpc.com/cache/screenshot/1505578.png

I know people that have used every version of windows since 1.1 and still can barely turn on a PC. What's your point? It's all personal preference and neither side will ever back down so why continue the dumb ass debate?
-
I have a 965 too, but the main problem is this motherboard can't supply the voltage needed to crank this one up. Comparing the overclock on a 920 to a 980x is like comparing a moped to a race car. The 980x draws huge power from the socket and many boards just can't supply the juice. So, you chastise non-mac users for not giving the MacOS a fair shot yet you tried vista (arguably one of the worst OS's ever) and gave up? Yeah, I think jeffro called it.

Then you were doing something wrong. My install of Windows XP is ~7 years old and has been migrated via Sysprep through about 10 different machines without a single "fresh" install. It still runs 24/7 and rarely needs a manual reboot. So far, Windows 7 on my new rig has been doing quite well itself. Personally, I have nothing against MACs but I prefer to easily be able to buy parts and software where ever instead of relying on an overpriced OEM.

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/6240/980x2g.th.jpg I'll keep my PC, thanks.

My PC takes nowhere near 5 mins to boot. Lemmings who don't know about PC's that buy dell loaded with crapware may, but those of us who know better run linux or streamlined copied of a windows OS that can boot as fast as a mac. Other than that, I'm not in to the Mac/PC debate since they run similar hardware anymore now anyway.

I used to shoot all the time. We would play "nock tag" where if you tagged the nock of an arrow you'd get to keep it. I'd go with one arrow and leave with a few dozen! Man, it's been years though! My old weapon of choice was an Indian compound with a mere 65# draw. I used typical eaton arrows till the carbon ones started gaining in popularity. I liked it though because it was extremely compact with a good draw to it, plus it was deadly accurate for me out to about 40 yards. I also had a Bear compound but that thing was massive from wheel to wheel, but it had a better 75#+ draw and would put a better force to the arrow for farther shoots out to about 75 yards. Though it's accuracy would leave a lot to be desired.
