you'll still see them (slots mostly, which are less of a concern) on certain race cars. keep in mind, most race cars get their brakes torn down, inspected, and serviced every race.
porsche rotors crack too...
the rotors (probably) won't explode the first time you lean on the brakes, but drilled rotors are FAR more likely to crack in the long run. what little you gain from drilling them doesn't justify the risks.
for street (light duty) use, it's less of a problem...
not a fan of the BFGs. a friend of mine ran them on the street, and they seemed to overheat and chunk with any extended use.
i ran a set of nittos on the mustang a while back. didn't have them for long, but they held up pretty well. worked well for me on the street.
last i checked, the lap record for a 'street legal' car stands at 7:18. it was set by a HEAVILY modified donkervoort (lotus 7 style car), topping radical's best run by 1 second...
