  1. There is most likely structural damage on the airframe. His dad will have to inspect it for cracks and signs of stress. If there is any damage it is going to be very costly to repair.
  2. Nobody wants that Russian POS flying around in our airspace..... j/k I'm not really familiar with helicopter parts, but he might want to look through http://www.tradeaplane.com for parts. They have several manufacturers and importers on there he might be able to find someone to help.
  3. Another idea would be to find an old industrial park somewhere. Might not take too much to clear some space and patch the asphalt. Noise wouldn't be an issue since it's around other factories. Get some of those orange water-filled barricades to line down the sides of the strip for safety.
  4. That would be good if it wasn't a grass stip. You need to find an airport that doesn't have much traffic for this and is hard surfaced. There is no way an airport would be willing to close a runway for cars due to lost revenue. Another issue is if someone loses control and does damage to aircraft, taxiway lights, or runway equipment, who then is responsible? Airplanes range from $10,000 to millions of dollars, and if they get just a small dent in them, they are totaled. Your best bet might be at Rickenbacker. They have a closed runway that is not used. It is the short one on the south side of the field. I doubt it is in good condition though. http://img.airnav.com/ap/02603 Even if the Columbus Airport Authority were to say "yes" you would then have to get TSA approval since you are in a secured area. Do you guys really want to go through security every time you go drag racing? I know there used to be a closed airport somewhere around Rickenbacker. I think it might be a housing development now. Can anyone confirm this? What Columbus really needs is a raceway park. A place that has a drag strip, road course, and a big lot to do autocross. I know there was talk about it a year or so ago by a group of investors. Everyone wants it, but "not in my backyard" is the catch.
  5. When you get wing icing, you are decreasing the amount of lift produced on the wing and increasing the drag coefficient. At a certain airspeed where weight overcomes lift you have an aerodynamic stall and basically sink towards the ground. The aircraft was flying slow preparing for approach in to Buffalo. In approach you are at a higher pitch angle than normal flight. Flying in icing conditions this is bad because ice tends to form underneath of the wing instead of on the leading edge where it could be broken away by the deicing boots. With icing conditions it is standard to fly at an icing penetration speed to make up for the potential loss of lift and prevent ice from forming underneath the wings. The crew reported significant ice so I'm sure they had increased their airspeed and were aware of the danger. Where they screwed up was retracting their flaps. Flaps increase lift and drag at the same time to allow the airplane to fly at a slower airspeed. When you retract the wing flaps you are decreasing lift and could stall the airplane. My theory is that they entered into a stall, recovered, and then in the rush to return to normal flight by retracting the landing gear to reduce drag, they also retracted their flaps. This put them in to a secondary stall which they could not recover from due to the low altitude.
  6. So, how did you end up wiring the fan relays?

    cat problems

I had the same problem. Make sure you have 1 litter box per cat + 1 extra. The extra litter box solved the problem for me. You can also place a litter box where the cat has been urinating and slowly move it out of site. Also pick up some odor neutralizer. Once the cat smells urine it thinks it's OK to go there. As mentioned above, you'll have to pull the carpet up to clean it properly.
  8. Let me know what you find out, I'm also interested in this.
  9. Are there any numbers or markings on the back?
  10. I'm thinking about having my rims done in gunmetal like the ones below except a little lighter. But I'm also thinking about going with black too. My FD is silver, what do you think would look best? Also, the center caps are plastic, can they be powder coated? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v185/ArchangelX/DSC01880.jpg
  11. I'd go with the T56 based on shifter fitment. That extension looks like shit.
  12. Looks really good. Did you get the tint done in Lancaster?
  13. I'm in for it whenever. It's practically my backyard.
  14. This is just off the top of my head. You might have to modify it a bit. http://192.168.1.1 Username: Admin Password: Admin After logging in, go to the Wireless tab click on Wireless Security select a security mode ie: WPA, WPA2 etc. enter your password in the shared key click apply/save now you need to edit your settings on your computer search for wireless networks select your network enter the password click ok
  15. I was there last Thursday with the family. The tour was awesome with great guides, scenery, and weather. The only downside is that it is $75 per person. If you have the time and money go for it, but if you're afraid of heights you might think twice about it. It was a good stress reliever for me.
  16. Do you fly for Chautauqua? I'm going to try to get hired at PSA in a year or so. Hopefully the hiring frenzy will pick back up.
  17. It still is kind of expensive for a light sport aircraft. Most are below $100,000, fly faster and go farther. Were you able find how many gallons per hour it burns?
  18. I saw one (or something similar) landing on Buckeye Lake about a month ago. I'd rather have an aerobatic airplane like a Pitts Special though. The FAA actually just changed the regulation on medicals extending their valid time if you are under the age of 40. It should help with the cost of flying, especially with AvGas around 6 bucks a gallon. How far along are you in getting your private?
  19. Wetsand it, use a little bit of rubbing compound to smooth it out, and then spray clear coat over the peeling areas feathering it out onto the good areas. Follow up with a polishing compound. That really doesn't guarantee that rust won't form, but it will help until you can get it professionally done. Did the paint peel down to bare metal or did the base coat peel off showing the layer of primer? Another option is to go to http://www.paintscratch.com Look up your paint code and get a can of color matched spray paint. Sand it a bit, spray the paint, then spray the clear.
  20. It's amazing how little shit gets to you when you are having a bad day. Back in 2003 I joined when I was living in Lancaster and was actually somewhat close, but even then I never made it up. Seeing cars built up in various threads has been nice when there isn't much action in Athens. Anybody want to join http://www.athensracing.com There are plenty of dirt roads down here!
  21. I've been on this site since 2003. I'm not a noob. I do admit I am a bit of a lurker. For some reason my post count is at 9, but I actually have 49????? I would post more if I actually made it out to the meets, but living in Athens makes it kind of hard.
  22. It's nice to see a built rotary and not some V8 swap. See you around.
  23. Hmmm. Here is a little history. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49570
  24. Mainly I am interested in RX-7s. They are getting older and new parts from Mazda are starting to get hard to get. Last Summer I bought one that needed work and fixed it up. There might be greater potential for profit by fixing them instead of parting them. To do this I would like to buy from insurance auctions, but this requires a dealer license. The Ohio BMV has too many stipulations for me to go out and get a license for what I will be doing. I think I will have to find a dealer to pick them up for me. Anyone know of any?
  25. How is this done legally? Does one have to register as a Salvage Parts Dealer? I'm considering parting out 1 or 2 cars per year and selling the parts on eBay. People do this on eBay all the time, but can it be done without a license?
