Thanks for the input. it will mostly be to know if my phone is ringing/ have a new alert. would be nice to be able to answer calls and reply to texts also. phone is with work so do not think i would be looking at one that has its own line. The gear S3 i thought would be a good middle of the road option. couple more features that some of the cheap ones will not have but not 3-400 either. I had a fitbit years ago and had issues with it breaking and not working. Fitbit did replace it a couple times but got tired of it. I will have to check out some of their options now. I got my wife a cheap one off Amazon. she likes it but just wanted it to tell time and see if she got texts while at work. I will have to check around on that site some. for what i am looking to do with it, maybe i am better off going the cheaper route, at least to see how much i end up using one.

I have been kicking around picking up an Android smartwatch. What do you have and or recommend. So far the gear S3 frontier is catching my interest most.

I know we are only a couple days in, but so far we like it. I went with the 14 piece kit(i noticed after i got mine that if i would have gotten it off amazon you get a free dot). Our hardest part is remembering we have one now. We have linked it with Alexa so we can arm and unarm it that way also. When you disarm the system with Alexa it asks for a 4 digit code. Their app and system is very simple and easy to follow. I had an issue with my base station and had to call in for support. The 2 people i talked with were very knowledgeable of the system and got it all straightened out very quick. After that the app guides you step by step with videos. It took me an hour or so to get it all set up. Within the app there are lots of settings that can be adjusted to your preference. The key pad is very basic and plain, but easy to use. So far i have only used the app and Alexa to turn it on and off. The contact sensors are a little bigger and bulkier then i expected. On some of the windows they hit the blinds. I have not installed the motion detector yet as we are getting ready to tear apart the house (moving the stairs from one section of the house to another). I am curious how they will work as we have a 120 LB dog. I did notice when setting up the system that there is 3 different sensitivity levels. I like the fire/co listener so that we didn't have to buy all new smoke detectors for the other systems. I was a little disappointed that they do not have a glass break sensor but i suspect they will add one here soon. We are going to try the system for a month or 2 to make sure we like it. We will probably look to add another listener, flood freeze sensor in our crawl space and then the doorbell and some cameras.

Darn, I completely missed the expo this weekend. Went last year and had a good time. I mostly go wading for crappie at Hoover. Only about 2.5 more months for that. Hope to make it out on my buddies boat for some catfishing this year too.

Quick update, I went with a ring system after learning they have cellular back up. Got it all set up and so far I like it. Simple to link to Alexa. The monthly cost is lower and they have more doorbell and camera options.

Have you looked at or tried the Simplisafe doorbell? When i first started looking at them i do not recall them having them but they are on there site now. I'm pretty sold on Simplisafe for them having their own Cell chip in the system and not needing internet. Do you have the key fobs? if so, are they worth it? Fire is a must, the one cool thing that Ring has on their site as coming is a smoke/ CO2 listener. so it picks up the existing going off and does not require new. This seems like a good idea if going with a wifi system. i was curious with all the other "smart" devices and then adding a security system to my existing how it would affect my actual internet.
-
This seems like a little more moving parts then i was hoping for. Ring now has a traditional security system. It seems like this is pretty new for them. Is your main security ADT and the various cameras connect to it? Thanks for the feedback. I am leaning toward them as they now have the door bell. The tipping point right now is the cellular within the system. The others like the Ring system seem to be run by Wifi. would like something that is still active and sending notifications when the power is out. Cameras look good, but would like some more of the traditional features like contact/ motion sensors, door chime, fire/ CO2 detectors.

Found a couple older threads, figured i would start a new one as there seems to be some fairly newer products out there. With that said- what do you have or recommend? I am currently looking at something like Simplisafe or Ring.

Would you rather have a 2015 Ford transit 250 with the 3.2L diesel (67K miles) or a 2016 Ford Transit 250 with the 3.7 V6 (21K miles)?

I have not updated the firmware on the router. I will look into that. I was going to order a new cord to go from the router to PS but then it started working. My nephew was playing over the weekend and the people that were over were on and off their phones on the wifi and he had no ping issues the couple hours played. I did not change anything since the last time i played and the ping was 1100. I Just tried playing and ping was back up to 1100. I figure if it was a cable issue it would be consistent. I will still order one just be able to take things out of the mix. you can do a speed test on it, just did and got 160 MBPS down and 10+ up. went to the website on the PS and it confirm and had a ping of 80 on the first test then ping of 50 on the 2nd. Tested on my laptop on the wifi and ping is in the 20's- 30's, only 23 down and 2 up however. The inconsistency of working fine one day to completely fucked the next is making me wonder if it is internet provider based. If it was software/ router/ cord wouldn't you think it would be consistent 1100 ping all the time?

Thanks everyone for the ideas and help so far. A little more information below and some of the other tech questions i will have to check out when i get home. Sorry for the confusion, I have the PS hard wired into the router. the other night i just tried it on WIFI to see if it was maybe a bad cord or something else and had the same results. The PS is ~20' away from the router and in the same room. I currently have a Netgear R6350 router and WOW internet. I will have to double check speeds but i think i have around 100DL. NAT is open, i did try QOS and it seemed worse so i factory reset the router. Router is password set up. While hard wired and on WIFI i have turn off every device with the exception of Alexa, thermostat and smart outlets. It is just my wife and I, she was gone and i turned off and tablets and closed apps on my phone.

I have been having some issues and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas or experience. While playing PS4 online my ping is all over the place. It will go from 30s up to 1000 and back down. As of lately it has been staying up around 300+ for entire games. When I plug directly into the modem the ping is fine and stays around 30. then go back to plugging in the router and hard wiring off of that and the issue is back. I would think it would be the router, but the kicker is I have used 2 different routers and had the same ping issues with both. One being brand new, the other a friends. Tried setting the PS to highest priority and had no affect. We have no issues streaming netflix or amazon on wifi. I have tried turning everything off of the wifi with the exception of alexa, themorstat and outlets. Any chance it might be a bad/ shitty modem? any way to check that? Any other ideas?

Agree. Last time I priced one a couple years ago it was over 10K with all the accessories. I am assuming he is looking for something like the Ridgid Seesnake? When we need one we rent it from Ohio Power Tool- 999 Goodale Blvd, Columbus, OH 43212. We have a business account with them, but i would guess that they would rent to individuals. They have both the compact and the larger ones and can add the locator also. If you don't want to rent and no one else has one, we also have another company we use for our camera/ locating work. Let me know if you want their contact.
