  1. Guns are dangerous and having one in your home will do nothing more than increase the chance of a family member getting hurt. Call the police and let them do their job when there's an intruder.

Obviously. I always train to remember to tell them to bring 9mm instead of 45acp when they come to my place.

  2. I remember a few years back when I first started carrying there was always the debate on 9mm vs 45acp and the 45acp always seemed to be the go to round because it has more "stopping power".

I always stuck with the argument that neither of these rounds have "stopping power" and preferred carrying 9mm over .45 for the extra round count it would hold. Neither of these rounds will actually stop someone from coming at you unless you land a fatal shot. If I want true stopping power I suppose I'll pick up a 10mm.

I read a pretty good article today about what others in the shooting industry prefer and the bias is now leaning towards 9mm>45acp, which seems to be the opposite of what I'd been hearing over the years. Most of it comes down to bullet technology advancement in the 9mm round.

Article is here and IMO worth the read to see what people prefer and why.

Has anyone else switched to 9mm from .45acp?

Also, is .40 cal on it's way out? It seems .40 cal pistols are dropping in price on the used market vs. their 9mm and .45 brothers due to advancements in bullet technology.

  3. Right, I understand the point you are making. is this a SHTF gun?

    That's my main concern.

Could it be? Would you trust it to be? Is it reliable enough to be?

Or is the midlength the best combination for the 556 in shtf?

You have many different lengths, if you could have one, what would you grab?

  4. Also, if you are going to try and have a well rounded gun for 15-75 yard shots as well as out to 400 I would think an ACOG (ta33 or ta50) or a 1-4 (Viper PST) would be a great choice for the diversity of shooting that you intend to do. The MicroT1 is certainly capable. I would think you would want something that has BDC type intervals for the distances you want to reach to.

I like the simplicity behind the T1. At 400 yards you just put the bottom of the dot on top of a head and you're at center mass hits which is my goal. I just don't see the need for any magnification for this.

  5. What are you trying to improve over your existing 16" rifle?

    Weight reduction and maneuverability.

Off a bench I can hit 10" steel just shy of 400 yards with the aimpoint. With the right ammo is an 11.5 or 12.5" just as effective at that range?

I don't see any situation I would ever be shooting past these distances, realistically anywhere close to them.

It's the same length with a can as a 16" but much more quiet inside, another big plus.

I just read a lot about the added wear of an sbr on your parts, my main concern is how much extra wear and is there a big difference in this amount between the 11.5 and 12.5?

Whenever I read about effectiveness of 556 it's based off of the 55gr fmj or 62gr. Does this go out the window if I use tsx bullets?

  6. Been kicking around the idea of a SBR, I just can't decide if it's worth it. Would you trust a SBR as your SHTF gun or would you stick with a 16" midlength?

Right now I have a 16" midlength with irons and a micro t1. All I want is something RELIABLE with the ability to be effective out to 300m or a little further since that's about as far as I can see with no magnification.

If I go the SBR route a can is going on it. I'm leaning toward a specwar k for performance and the reduced length.

I'm thinking a 12.5" because it's not as deafening as an 11.5" would be, especially inside which is where having an SBR would be most worthwhile, you get a little more velocity and more handguard choices.

    Input?

  7. Joe, your explanation is very understandable about gear vs. Aptitude. Is it fair to say that in LR shooting that the equipment matters a lot more (ie - a better setup can equal better results)? I noticed a huge improvement when I put my action/barrel in a chassis and a even better improvement when I put an aftermarket trigger in it (bolt gun).

While all of it makes improvements, a good shooter should be able to max out a guns abilities so to speak. While all of the add on and accessories help to make it easier you shouldn't NEED them to make you capable.

  9. So is this 6 seperate orders in one group order to get free shipping, or 6 items in an order to get free shipping. I'm looking to split the 8 pack with you, if this fills the order.

    Just 6 individual items.

If you split the 8 pack with me shipping is included in that price already.

I'll leave this up today and order first thing tomorrow so if anyone else wants anything they can save shipping costs and jump in on this.

  10. I'm planning on ordering some steel today or tomorrow.

I'm ordering from Wideners and if you get 6 or more the shipping is free.

Right now I have 4 I want to get and a buddy wants one so far. Figured if anyone else is looking for just one you could save yourself some money on shipping.

I'd also be interested in splitting the 8 pack they have listed.

I'll order before tomorrow is over at the latest and can meet next week to drop it off/ collect money.

  11. Best buy and Sam's both have sales reps there, probably wheeling for the same branch.

If you're a Sam's member you get better pricing and they can do more for you if you upgrade your Sam's account to gold.

  13. Basing wealth or success off of income is something only 99% folks do. Success/wealth should be based off of how much capital you are able to accumulate.

    This.

I don't even make 40k a year but I'm better off financially than a lot of people I know making almost twice as much as I do.

I've paid less than 100 dollars in interest in the 6 years since I've turned 18, all of which was loans and not credit card interest. My biggest payment is rent, which I could make even smaller by purchasing a home rather than renting one. I'd just rather wait to have a smaller mortgage when that time comes.

One weekly paycheck covers 80% of my financial responsibilities every month, the rest goes to fun and savings.

Far to many people live outside of their income to keep up with a social standard.
