  1. The flag is a living history and represents the sacrifices past and present made to preserve the Union, starting with the original 13 colonies.

It's a symbol of our history. A symbol of our nation, however, would be the freedom to burn the flag. Just like one should be free to burn a Torah, Quran, Bible, copy of the Constitution or Declaration of Independence, a picture of Barack Obama or George Washington. The freedom to express oneself through such a demonstration is far more important than the negative impact of such a desecration of a revered item.

I find such demonstrations distasteful, however if the flag represents anything first it's freedom. The rights we have as Americans (actually, just as human beings) supercede the patriotic representations of those rights. Cart before horse and all that.

  2. Why do college football fans care about conferences so much? Always talking about this conference being overrated, that conference being weak, this conference better than another, rooting for/against schools because of their conference, etc. I'll never understand it.

It had a lot to do with the post-season until very recently. That said, even with a 4 team playoff, it still seems at least two spots too short, even while being vastly superior to the old BCS BS.

In a way this will never change, one league or another will always get some brownie points for being at a glance "tougher" than it's counterparts. With college sports it's even more tribally regional, due to very nature of collegiate sports (hometowns, my state, my conference). We still see this in the NFL, NBA and virtually every major sport though, to a degree. It's really just a way for fans to bicker over trivial BS.

  3. Well, I haven't owned a condo for almost 15 years, but I imagine the pros are still similar. Yard work is almost non-existent, and you may have access to community pools, workout facilities, or a party house. Your neighbors most likely care about their units, so there's far less likelihood of dipshit neighbors, but inversely there may be an HOA nazi.

Obviously the benefit of a house is privacy (though neighbor/HOA nonsense is still abound, hence why I just bought 5 acres out in the middle of nowhere with practically zero deed restrictions), but at the cost of the time required to care for it. If you don't mind paying a landscaping company to care for the yard when you're gone that's easy enough.

As far as owning rental properties I helped my dad with a few of his, and while he pulled decent side income from the few properties he owned, he had one or two nightmare tenants over the years and kicking them out, and repairing the damages they left certainly left a sour taste in my mouth. The areas weren't the best, but they weren't hood either. Also, some communities may limit rental options.

Good luck with whatever you do.

  4. jesus rob can you guys make up your mind on a home lol you just moved a few years ago!

    Where to now?

Haha, it's been 6 or 7 years man! I think we have found "home" though. It's just a bit north of where we were, but no more neighborhood BS. Woot.

I am in the same boat. I have got a few quotes from builders. I think I am going to custom build one with menards and order during the 11% rebate. 40x60 with 12 ft high walls 2 16x10 garage doors, one man door, 2 windows, 1' overhang on all sides is around 11k. Find some amish to install for 3k.

    Add in concrete and electric.

Nice, I'll have to check out the Menard's deal.

  5. We sold our house and are about to close on our next home that sits on five acres with an attached 2 car. First project is to finish the basement so the kids have a hangout area, and then the next project will be a nice detached work area for me, hopefully with a 2 post at some point. I've done a bit of research and the pricing seems to fluctuate pretty wildly. Any recommendations/experiences on what company or contractor to use? What about the kits you see like Versatube, or prefab? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just an additional 2-4 car setup.
  6. Up for sale is an EVGA GTX 970 I no longer need, as I upgraded my monitor to 1440p, and added a GTX 1070. The card is still a beast, and still one of the best cards on the market, and ran every game I own at 1080p in ultra without so much as a chug. As a matter of fact it ran almost every game I own at high/ultra in 1440p too, but I am also ordering a VR unit in the near future and want the extra power pascal offers, even though lots of folks run VR with a 970.

TL;DR buy this card, it's a beast. $190 or best offer.

  7. I'm about as critical of the police as anyone can be, I feel those in government positions (police acting as the enforcing arm of the government) deserve scrutiny of the highest order, and that misconduct needs to be punished swiftly, and severely after a proper investigation is complete. This is strictly because misconduct that's taken lightly, or seemingly protected, erodes trust in the entire public apparatus. Look no further than the leading Democratic presidential candidate. I've taken flak from family(police officers themselves), friends, or even strangers on social media that see criticism of police, as a hatred of police officers. The constant digging of our heels into our particular sides quest for lone moral superiority has to stop.

There are shithead cops, or just plain stupid cops, that do not deserve to wear the badge, and it's because there are shitheads, and stupid people that simply exist. Just like there are shitheads and stupid people in every place, occupation, race, religion, nationality and so on. No one group has a monopoly on good, heroic, and trustworthy, and no one group has monopolies on the inverse qualities.

The cowards that shot these officers, officers that had nothing to do with the situations in Louisiana, or Minnesota, are shitheads of the Nth degree, and there is no excuse for their despicable behavior. I don't believe in hell, but if there is one may they rot there eternally.

Not other gun owners, not other BLM activists, just them.
