  1. Precisely. Both have their place.

I was "bluing" some of the steel spikes I use as well with heat and I really like the finish that gave. Like a light shiny blue color and it seems to last through moderate use of the shiv as well.

  2. I appreciate the use of anodized titanium. I saw you playing around with the electro process on Facefriends. It's nice to see more people working with that process.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun and gives you more control over he colors you want, as well as a greater range of colors than using the heating method. Though the heat method gives a different finish.

  3. I must confess to being a little bit confused that conservatives are mad about Republicans doing exactly what they've been electing them to do for decades. If anything, there shouldn't have been a stimulus at all, because Coronavirus is just the flu and every should just get over it already, industries should just dig into their rainy day funds and if they can't they deserve to fail, the stimulus is 100% deficit spending which is the worst sin imaginable, and it's not the government's place to redistribute wealth.

This isn't a partisan critique, I just don't understand. Nothing about the Republican platform would suggest that they'd agree to a $2000 "clean" stimulus like Trump (briefly) demanded. Nothing. So why is anyone surprised that it's dead in the water?

That's my point. Everyone "hates" socialism until the government "only" wants to give $600 back to you. Most failing to realize we live in a capitalist x socialist hybrid system already. Not saying I'm a fan of socialism or or even these stimulus checks, but people need to look at it for what it is.

  4. The last time I saw someone knock a guy off a high perch and jump on him when he was down for the kill was at a dirt-floor bar in Western PA during my college years.

It was funny then...and still amazing to watch now.

I like the second video as well.

Ryan: "Are you OK after falling out of that tree?"

Ahsoka: "Oh sure...this f**king tree rat softened the landing."

    Ha ha ha

  5. man, that fall had to hurt like a mofo... just seeing the squirrel twitching before the guy ran over (what was he doing btw?) I get that it's a part of life but damn, I kind of feel bad for the tree rat.

What's happening is the hawk is doing what all hawks do, (hunting) and the guy, (me) is rushing over to help prevent the hawk from taking nasty bites and to quickly dispatch said squirrel so it doesn't get eaten while it's still alive like happens out in the wild when a falconer isn't there to hasten it's passing.

  6. So cool. She seems to really be doing well. What setting was this in?

    A college campus, ha ha.

My buddy just moved here from Seattle and I guess is an Ohio falconer now. He wants to know where to find a red tail? Is marysville honda the only spot?

Trees and power poles. He can get in touch with other OH falconers and they can guide him to the right areas. Joe Dorrian at the Ohio School of Falconry may be able to help him.

    A tree I believe.

    Yes

WRONG! I frequently see them on telephone poles too. :dumb:

    Yes

  7. My Female Redtail caught her 11th fox squirrel of the season yesterday. Probably one of the most visually spectacular catches on squirrels I have seen, and I was lucky enough to have my good friend and fellow falconer along who recorded it.

  8. Cats can work but don't let hem roam the neighborhood. They kill Billions, yes, with a "B" of native birds every year in the US.

Don't use poison. Poisons make their way through the food chain. You kill a rat with poison, it's a slow death, does and dies somewhere else, predator eats said rat, predator dies, vultures go to eat predator, vultures die. I recently picked up a screech owl in the road in front of my house that basically looked really drunk. Was actually dying from pesticides.

Try traps. The guy that runs Mousetrap Monday's youtube channel has hundreds of videos about all different kinds of traps.

  9. I'm no scientist....but if the surface of Venus is over 800*F and the swirling vapor cloud atmosphere is highly acidic, it's reasonable to assume that some pretty interesting molecular compounds can be created.

I've been saying since the Pope came out in the '90s with a Catholic church-backed stance that extra-terrestrial belief goes in line with a Biblical view of the Universe - that life can be on every planet/moon where the ingredients to support it exist. Whether that life is INTELLIGENT is another story. Amoeba living on Europa doesn't mean we can stop by in a spaceship - or shoot radio signals there and expect a response - to learn advanced knowledge from them.

    Ditto.

I'm not catholic, but I've never felt the biblical account of things excludes the possibilities of of life in other places throughout the universe.
