  1. Likely entirely irrelevant to most of this forum, but Randy happens to be really good on vintage Mercedes Benz engines, I use him for all my projects and customer cars. Good guy with good prices. Never had a bad experience with him.
  2. I have two tow trucks, one I picked up inside your budget. 1995 Ford F250 7.3 diesel. 205k, receipt for a rebuilt trans, solid floors, solid frame, but rusty front fenders. $3000. It was in someones yard in Millersport. Anecdotal I once bought a car for $xxxxx stories, are usually useless, but you do see the OBS Fords around for reasonable money. If you're not towing far and since gas is $2, you could probably find a really clean gasoline Old Body Style Ford F150/250/350, they're cheap as hell to buy parts for and easy to work on. Truth be told if you're not insistent on a diesel there are a million half ton gas trucks around for your price point that will tow 5000lbs with ease. Other truck is an '06 F250 6.0L, which contrary to most peoples experiences with the 6.0, I have really loved, but you won't find one under $5,000 that fires on all 8 cylinders and doesn't burn more coolant than diesel.
  3. Looking for an 80s Toyota spline steering wheel hub adapter for a 6 bolt aftermarket steering wheel. Its for a mk3 Supra. Wheel got here, but the adapter didn't, was looking for some local instant gratification before I order one online. Let me know if you've got one. Thanks
  4. If the state it is coming from is not a notary state, it does not need to be notarized when flipped at an ohio bmv. What copperhead mentionned is called an "out of state inspection" the bmv can do it for you for like $3.50 or a car dealer can do it. Like he said they just verify the vin on the car matches the vin on the title. If the title you are handing the BMV isn't an ohio title, this is required, notary state or not. So, bring the vehicle with you to the bmv if you don't have someone who can do an inspection for you.
  5. I'm not on CR very often anymore, but as doc has mentionned I did a good bit of work to the car when he got it to make sure it was up to the task of daily commuting. We did brake hoses, rotors, front calipers, changed the transmission fluid and filter etc. I have the list of stuff I've put on the car somewhere. I could tell you how good of care doc takes of his cars but there is no sense in telling you all things you already know. For those of you doing some googling this car has an OM617, more specifically an OM617.951 3.0l 5 cylinder engine. It is a great motor that is easy to work on, this car has the updated primer pump already done on it. It has a 722.3 4speed automatic transmission. No overdrive but they are very robust. They take dex/Merc and filter from the dealer is under $25, making them cheap and easy to service and they will last a very long time when serviced regularly. The usual issue with Mercedes diesel sales is the mpg, no it will not do 35-40mpg. Doc has already posted his numbers which are what these cars get. Now if you looked up a 1981 380SE gas car fuel economy, in context 27-30 is pretty phenomenal. They get good fuel economy even by today's standards and how little maintenance they require makes them a good value even today. But if you are expecting a VW TDI, go buy a vw TDI. Parts for these cars are very reasonable, even at the dealer. Online diy support is also easy to find and I can direct you to some owners forums for these cars. If anyone had any questions about the car, or if the new owner needed a little guidance I would be happy to talk with you. I will be at C&C Saturday if you wanted to talk diesel in person. My dad has an 85 300D with the same motor and I've had a few cars with 61X series motors and I've had a couple diesel S classes. I posted this from my iPhone please excuse the grammatical errors.
  6. If you're considering doing one of the larger RNA rallies, this event would be an outstanding primer. Having participated in Scott's rallies before, he really knows how to organize a rally. He and his helpers run a smooth, easy, fun event. The rallies are a ton of fun, you meet all different kinds of people and see all kinds of cars, especially if you like GTOs I am not sure if I can make this one, but to any CR members on the fence I highly suggest going for it. The only concern would be getting hooked and having to sign up for the next long distance event!
  7. My friend had an Li when we were in highschool. A few years after we graduated at 100k it needed like $9500 worth of service (so said the dealer). It needed front timing cover seals which is a cheap part but an enormous amount of labor which was the biggest single item if I remember correctly. His also had an emissions pump that went bad that needed done. This was like 2 years ago, so I don't remember the exact details. But it was an 05 that was dealer maintained for 100k miles. I'd have the car inspected by a reputable indy or a dealership before he bought it. I use Best Motor Works, they inspected my E46 for me. I'd recommend them. Its a German car that's nearly a decade old, it won't be cheap to own. As long as he understands, and can afford to run it, they are awesome cars.
  8. Where's my style, you're right. http://strumors.automobilemag.com/files/2008/10/10722602.jpeg
  9. What are you talking about? The lever on the drivers side? That's the lock for the soft top. When you put the top up you turn the lever and it tensions the cables in the soft top. C107s had roll down 1/4 windows. http://mitglied.multimania.de/spezialserien/hpbimg/c107-500slc-amg-chromfelgen.jpg
  10. 450SL with the aftermarket rear jumpseat? Your kids are little right Clay? They'll fit. http://www.jjproducts.net/jj_products_img/products/Mercedes/107Body-Folding.jpg
  11. 05/06 are supposed to have better transmissions. At $15k that salvage car is a pretty good deal, its a theft recovery car. That said, they are great cars but servicing the air suspension is why I haven't bought one. However a lot of kits are out to convert them to coil-overs now, and aftermarket air suspension parts are coming out and independent shops are working on the systems. So it may be time for me to stop talking about one, and buy one. I had a friend with the 55K motor heavily modified in three different cars and he never blew a motor up. At stock power levels, well maintained I've seen plenty with high miles and no major issues.
  12. My family is in the car business as well. So maybe I read what he wrote incorrectly, thats why I took it down. My gut interpretation of what he said was annoyance then I reread what he wrote and decided that I may be misunderstanding him, so I took down what I said. The net effect of my opinion is it is the responsibility of the buyer to do their due diligence, read, and understand what they are being presented with. The numbers are there, read them. And especially if you own/run a dealership you understand you can't give money away for free. But as he runs a dealership, he knows that. So nice edit indeed.
  13. You know full well that my perceptions of what I need are a delusion. But reading about viewts there was a reference to a "factory built cabriolet" so I had to go to google and have look, I actually do like the look of the cabrio. I'd never done a side by side that close before with the real car, wow its a lot closer than I thought.
  14. http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6047/6272564236_55a135909b_z.jpg Whoa, Doc, you never told me this was an option, now I might need one.
