  1. wish they would bring tiguan TDI 4 motion here, ours is a 2.0t and only gets ~24 mpg....would deff. buy TDI
  2. i highly recommend gutting the precats, if it has not already been performed.
  3. well the newer 4.2 has too many issues- chain/tensioner failures, oil consumption issues from cylinder walls and precat failures..the older 4.2 is tried and true, once you fix all the oil leaks haha and plus its something different, the 4.2 never came in a B5 chassis
  4. exactly, mine is the belt driven motor- rev limiter @ 7200, where the newer chain motor (other differences as well) limiter around 8250 in a RS4 at least They stopped the 5 valve because a 4 valve flows just as well if not better without the added cost or extra pumping losses, same reason Ferrari and others stopped 5v technology.
  5. the 1.8t weights ~275 lbs, the V8 weighs in at ~350 lbs, so not a huge difference- iron block 4 cyl compared to all alum v8 with magnisium intake manifold and valve covers, plus i lose all turbo components- front mount, piping etc. Also, Audi rates the curb weight of my 1.8t a4 @ 3241 lbs.
  6. fitting this motor in the smaller chassis is a very tight fit, unless i completely cut it up, there is no way to stuff a turbo under the hood, maybe a remote mounted one, but eh, not worried about it, i have my turbo integra and stroker Mr2 if i wanna go really fast.. i think 350 ish hp, awd and under 3000 lbs will be fun enough, and with P/S, A/C and cruise
  7. little update, I removed the motor and trans from the A6, took about 3 hours, which i didnt think was to bad for my first time. Also that motor and auto trans combo is crazy long. haha i sepaerated the motor/trans, and got the motor on a engine stand, cleaned it up and started disassembly. removed harness and coolant hoses, intake manifold, and of course both flaps are stuck, i did a leak down test and only got 1% leakage so i am super happy with the motors health. unfortunately both cam chain tensioners are shot, so gonna have to drop money in new ones... i pulled the pan, nice and clean, other than chunks of plastic for tensioner pads that made it to the bottom. i then removed the heads so i can port them and replace valve guides and nice fresh valve job. and some pics: http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131205_185345_zpsa897867b.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131205_211445_zpsb3e1e7d8.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131205_223222_zpsce08782c.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131209_195455_zps3727d2e0.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131209_195534_zps309f8872.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131210_193352_zps6b7a69bb.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131210_193343_zpsfe8c2959.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131205_211439_zps871adb74.jpg
  8. its funny how they talk about not prepping the street, but last season they had torches, VHT etc...hmmmm hypocritical much!!!!
  9. thanks man! Ive only read of a few people going turbo, and biggest problem is tuning, not many companies offer anything for the V8, and with aluminum block and steel liners people at varying power levels have cracked them, which i contribute to inadequate tuning. But some who have dumped tons of money in them have made great power, they are all forged internals. There are supercharger options, but at about $6k, i will stay all motor for now. maybe a 75 shot if i get bored haha
  10. ive considered it, the VR6 sounds very nasty and can make gobs of power, but the purchase price for all the components would literally be in the 10k range, after turbo bits... and im not going for all out power, obviously its an Audi, just want nice torque and bad ass v8 sound, a fun daily
  11. to make a 01E work, i would need to by rear diff, driveshaft, the trans itself, linkage, front axles, mounts, and a few other items, so $$$$ But the biggest reason is that i would need to run the spacer, and i will lose almost 12mm of space up front, which doesnt sound like a lot, but its the difference of being able to fit a fan between the radiator and motor and not being able to. Also, the 01A has been proven reliable to 500 awhp and they are plentiful and cheap.
  12. i will be installing a Euro spec TDI 5th gear, people who have already done the swap report fuel mileage as about the same as the 1.8t
  13. ive been debating that....it will be blatantly obvious from the sound, i already pulled the 4.2 badge off the A6, we shall see
  14. i am going to rebuild with carbon syncros, but the 01A 5 speed, has been proven reliable at 500 whp, so making 310 crank i am not worried, and if i do break it, i have a spare and they r cheap also
  15. Hey guys, ive been wanting to do something different with my 1.8t A4 quattro since the stock motor is weak sauce. i know i could do a larger turbo, but that sounds dull, i could do a twin turbo S4 V6 motor swap, but i could just buy an S4 and call it done, so i came to the conclusion, V8 swap it!! So basically, heres my A4, its of the 2001 vintage http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/2012-08-04150206.jpg the v8 is coming courtesy of a 2000 A6 4.2 V8 that i picked up off craigslist for a steal, with a bad auto tranny http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131115_123633_zps8caea80f.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/20131116_153509_zps4084f061.jpg so, first things first, i cut off the exhaust on the A6 right after the X pipe, so i could hear the bad ass symphony that motor creates a nice video of it. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t65/jack_weisenburger_2006/th_20131116_162309_zps5a9fc527.jpg So basically, to make this swap work, i will need a clutch/flywheel setup from a Audi v6, so i can retain my A4's 5 speed manual, i will need to repin a few wires, i will be keeping A/C, P/S and cruise, all of which to transfer over, and have the ecu flashed so its not looking for an auto trans when it will have a manual behind it. i know it will not be fast, but i will be going from the 1.8t (170 hp) to a 4.2 v8 (310 hp) so it will be fun, especially with awd and a manual. i want to do this because the A4 never came with a V8 and i will be using almost all factory Audi parts to make this work, which i think is kinda cool.
  16. well, thanks for the info guys, i appreciate it!
  17. well, we took it to MAG for the scheduled maintaince, a brake flush was part of the service, and my wife called me and said that it was making a bad noise when she turned, so i drove it, and there was a terrible screeching/grinding noise when turning, I got underneath and found the tech left his wrench on the bleeder screw on the driver front caliper, and it dug into the rim and messed up inner fenderwell.. i called mag, couldnt get thru, finally got a call back next day, they wanted us to drop off the car, but wouldnt give us a loaner, so i had to argue, finally got a loaner lined up, and they took care of the damage, which they should have, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth about there service.. i mean, if she was driving and that wrench jammed in the wheel or another object and either loosened/ripped bleeder off she could have gotten into an accident and seriously hurt. And i am not saying i wanted or expected anything for free, but damn, after something like this you would imagine they would try to do something to win my loyalty back and get me to return to them, but nothing.
  18. ok..well how is byers? i will not go back to MAG after what they did to the wifes vw..
  19. who is a good person in service to deal with? any help or recommendations appreciated!
  20. if urs is a 99, should be AEB, so u would need a 557 box http://www.audizine.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=87778&title=aeb-8d0907557p-chipped-ecuavailable-with-cat-delete&cat=20
  21. ebay sells Tubular manifolds for your car for cheap, but i dont recommend them, if your staying K03 or even K04 i would not do a tubular manifold, there will be no gains when using these turbos, a FMIC setup from godspeed or any other ebay store is like $350 shipped, get software from unitronic or APR- around $600 depending on software level, nice power gains, you might find a used chipped ecu on audizine or vwvortex for a better price
  22. i will have a good used K03s for sale shortly, still one my car.. i have a stock DV somewhere i think?
  23. side mount radiator is what brand?
  24. interested in seats, front bumper, lower moldings and rear valance... i have cash!!
