  1. BTW harbor freight tool have the same warranty as craftsman and probably came over on the same boat.

HF hand tools all have lifetime warranties, so unless you need something made of a stronger metal (probably using the wrong tool if you do), I'd go that route. I'm also not a mechanic, so YMMV, but by no means am I easy on my tools.

Just my $0.02, which I saved by buying most of my tools at HF :)

  2. I like to think that I have put more thought into my safety other than " I have a gun I will be safe".

It's not about feeling safe, it's about having a fighting chance. I can't find the video, but there was a shop owner (watch repair I think?) that was in 3 self defense shootings at his store. I take his philosophy, which was something like this: I'd rather go out fighting than depend on the good nature of the guy pointing a gun at you.

That being said, if you are carrying a gun, that doesn't mean you have to use it. And just because someone may get the drop on you doesn't mean you won't have a chance to defend yourself (hint: people do it successfully all the time because most crooks are cowards and don't want to get shot over a few bucks).

The great thing about 'Murica is that it's your choice. Just don't go trying to legislate it on me.

Back to the topic, I don't think the training should be required, especially since most people can open carry or use lethal force to defend themselves without a firearm without getting an Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Handgun.

  3. Fast forward to last week, I just happened to be cruising Craigslist and saw a decent deal on a motor and carbs from a guy up near Ashley. He offered to give me everything he had, delivered to me, for just the cost of the motor, which should give me everything I need, and then some, to get the bike running again.

Once I get some space back in the garage, I'm hoping to start transplanting the motor, buying any little things I need, and getting it moving. Once that's done, I may work on trying to fix up the old motor (bore it, port the heads, etc) and put it back in, but we'll see.

  4. I should have junked this or passed it off a long time ago, but I got a hell of a deal on a donor bike recently, so it looks like this thorn in my side may finally see the road once again. But first, some history...

I originally bought this bike back in August 2007 from a guy in Fostoria (through eBay) to replace my 2006 Ninja 250 that was totaled earlier that year:

When I went to pick it up and ride it back to Westerville, the guy said there was an issue with the coolant temperature gauge and trip meter, but that everything else should be fine. I made it all the way to the north part of Delaware before it died and coolant started spewing all over the place from the top of the radiator. I let it sit for a while at the end of a driveway for a while to let it cool down, during which time someone knocked it over:

Since it wouldn't stay running for more than a few minutes, I got it towed back to my apartment and eventually got it torn down:

which is where I saw what appeared to be the problem (coolant overflow line was nowhere to be found):

After tearing it down some more, I found it tucked under the gas tank near the air box:

I got it reconnected easily enough:

but unfortunately the damage was done:

I was hoping it was just the head gasket, but it turned out to be a cracked block.

Some time later, I bought a replacement motor from a guy on Craigslist and had a buddy put it in for me. It idled fine:

but had issues under load. I assumed it was due to the new carbs not being jetted (K&N filter + exhaust already on the bike), so I planned on putting the old carbs on the new motor and everything would be set. Unfortunately between not having a long enough screwdriver, having a kid, moving, and losing the long screwdriver that I bought during said move, it didn't happen right away. After about 3 years sitting outside under a (crappy) tarp, it finally made its way inside a garage and got the carbs pulled:

  5. I have this one from harbor freight. Been fine for over a year, use it all the time. Locks on to the valve stem which is nice and has a nice big gauge on it. Plus it's 90% cheaper than the others in this thread. :)

+1. I finally replaced the one I lost when my last compressor was stolen, but never had any issues with it other than the gauge wasn't 100% accurate.

  6. My vote is to talk the wife into letting you get a cheap china quad. I bought one for my son when he turned 5 brand new for ~$450. 5 years later and he and my daughter still ride it daily. I couldn't even begin to add up the hours they've put on that thing in 5 years. It had several cool safety features when we bought it. Like an alarm with a remote kill switch and a govern for the throttle. I've replaced a ton of parts on it but all the parts are dirt cheap for it. I know people hate the chinese shit but it's worked out great for us.

Any links? Might pitch this idea to the wife, although then I'll one a bigger one for myself...

  7. Baking soda on the carpet, vacuuming, and dish soap + water in a pie pan (like $1 for 3 at Kroger) has been working for me. I also hear fleas can't survive with < 50% humidity, so a dehumidifier may help if you have one.
  8. Best pass was 13.19 @ 103 with a 1.78 60' in the morning. Seemed to be pretty consistent 13.3 @ 102 the rest of the day, aside from me trying a few things, hitting boost cut once or twice, and 125 degree IATs. Goal was < 13.5, hoping for 13.25 or better, so I'm happy :)
  9. Want a burger and fries? Get a burger with no cheese, no mayo and only eat HALF the bun (half is okay to eat). Problem holding your veggies? Ask for another peice of lettuce to use as your 1/2 bun replacement.

I'll have to start doing the bun thing

On one hand you're saying to count calories, then you say you're monitoring the type of calories you're eating.

What you're eating has as much of an effect as how much.

For me, it's more about being aware of what's better for me to eat in combination with how much I'm looking to eat (typically more after a trip to the gym). Counting calories accurately is more work than it's worth, so I just ballpark it.

lol @ all you CR people who think you know anything about health and dieting

It's working for me, so no fucks given :gabe:

  10. The point should also be make sure the calories you're taking in are calories your body can use instead of processed garbage that your body has to fight.

That's why I also don't eat Subway anymore. I'd rather take in 700-800 calories of Chipotle goodness than 500-600 calories of carbs and processed meats from Subway. Plus I can get 2x the dietary fiber.

  11. I think this is one of those times where weight is not a reflection of overall health.

True, but that was also 9-10 years ago. My cholesterol is a little high these days, but I also don't eat their nasty food anymore (anything other than a Big Mac makes me physically ill).

Point is it's about making sure you use up more than you take in.

  12. From Analyze This:

Q: What type of sandwich ain't too fattening?

    A: A half a sandwich.

This. I lost 20 or 30 pounds eating McDonalds 1-2 times a day, although that was also with a lot of pop (2-4 20oz Livewire/Code Reds a day). Took me 2-3x longer to lose the last 10 pounds by switching to a footlong sub from Subway per day.

Just do a few hours of cardio a day and eat whatever the fuck you want :dumb:
