  1. My thoughts on the matter are changing- After some reading on people's experiences, reading up on towing capacities...ect and the fact that ANYTHING breaking on a diesel, especially a 7.3, will be an expensive fix. Hell, we spent $600 on parts JUST going brakes on my boy's Cummins!!! Also, as I mentioned I towed my Boat with a freakin Auto CRV. Even up Puratis Hill (10% Grade). At the end of the day, If I was comfortable with that, I dont think I'll have an issue lugging light car with a 6 or 8 banger. For the 3 or 4 steep climbs a year the truck MAY see. I think Im back to where I was a year ago- Wanting a F 150 I-6 5 speed, Extend Cab, 2wd clean as aids. That just makes more sense for my needs.
  2. So-your saying a Ford (unless someone else makes a gas I-6) If this helps the story, this is the truck Im looking at tonight, and I already told the guy Im not paying 3k for it. He has all maintenance history, only drove it 15k in 6 years, never in the winter. It was previously owned by a John Deer dealership who used it as a service call truck. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/2069911031.html PS- if anyone scoops this truck B4 me tonight, I will murder you.
  3. You bring up a good point- I did tow my boat (20 ft Sea Ray) with my CRV. (4banger, 2 Liter) It didnt like hills, but it "did it". To answer other questions- Distance-Max of 1500 or so (Texas Mile) Maybe once a year out West. Load-5k? I dont know, a Busa, A (likley steel) car trailer, and a one ton Car of some sort. Would a V6 REALLY be enough? For example- with a 5k lbs load- going though the hills/mountains on the way to Florida.... Again, I like gas because I KNOW gas-easier/cheaper to repair, and pretty much DD able.
  4. Sell it in spring, you will get asking price
  5. Your nuts!!! Have you ever towed through the mountains? I need a truck-and for gas mileage and price prefer the Diesel. I dont want anything stopping me. Renting a 1500 would cost 800-1000 WITHOUT gas just on one trip to Florida. And thats if I find somewhere that does unlimited miles. I need a truck bed for more hauling shit as well. Add in Boats, jet skis...ECT. If you've ever tried to borrow a truck WHEN you need it-you know how much of a pain in the ass it can be
  6. Beat me to it! It came back home!
  7. Thats what I see, It seems everyone with a big cooler has no issues. Is there a cooler thats TOO big, as in it will hurt the pump or something else? I'd hate to be the one that kills the damn thing.
  8. Trust me, I love Cummins- but you cant even buy JUNK for 5k!!
  9. Me? Nothing! But the car was running 10.8's with an Auto a few years back. There is Video of the pass(es) Trans and engine are just sitting on the floor, waiting for a new home. PM me with any inerest I dont want to cluter up his thread-I just though an RS motor avaiable would help his sale.
  10. Nice, but to much. If I'm paying that much, I'm getting a cummins or a real duramax.
  11. Wild nights will do that.
  12. And if anyone knows of anything for sale keep me in the loop.
  13. Other thing I like about the 12v is you can click your heels together, and make 100more HP, and 200 more ft lbs. Almost literally.
  14. Thats what I'm saying. And thats why Im no longer shy about a Gas motor (mpg will only be an issue a few times a year) And I'll save what, $100 a trip MAYBE? Biggest thing is reliability.
  15. I have about 10 within 60 miles at $3500 and below obo. The one I am most interested in is a 1997 Ford. 210k, no rust, factory serviced with all receipts asking $3000. 2wd, but auto. If it was a 5 speed I would have picked it up that day, but Ford autos at this point scares me. Who made the 6.5 Chevy motors? When did the duramax come in? What about the 454?
  16. Steer me in the right direction then! Maybe I like all the smoke? Im just used to doing overland stuff in Dodge-never left me stranded.
  17. I should have mentioned my preferred price range is 5k cash and below. that being said-you can give me an honest review of your rig.
  18. Max of 3 bikes (To Texas) or a Bike, and a Car. And you know what I drive-little jap shit.
  19. Need everyone options BASED ON FACTS please- Looking for a long distance tow rig. Looking for 2wd, Extend cab is a must. Was considering Ford Powerstoke, but I see nothing but issue with the tranns in the cars. Would prefer Diesel. Anything else is optional. Biggest concerns 1) Reliability 2)Cost effective 4)Gas Milege 3)RELIABILITY First Choice- 5 speed 3500 Cummins. Mid-late 90's. -Pro-bullet proof -20mpg cons-Price! Cant find them cheap -Interior (who cares) Second-late 90's Ford Powerstorke- Pro-you can find them cheap Super comfy Cons-trans issues in the Automatics Worse MPG than reported Third Chevy 3500- Duramax Pro-cheaper than dodge 4L80E- cons-???? You tell me! Also considering-Chevy 3500 w/ gas 454. Seem to be fairly bullet proof. Pro-I know gas motors Cons-MPG You guys tell me! help me out here
  20. No, impulse motor. The donor has a Audi 5 banger int he back now though.
  21. Car has been sitting since I now daily the CRV- so its literally just taking up space!! New Prices- $3200 on Enki's $2800 on Fat 5's Cash takes it home!! Again, this car runs, and drives perfectly. No shakes @100mph- I'd trust it to Florida and back tomorrow
  22. Bump-I have been daily driving the car since the big snow, so I am available during the day to meet neat Middleburg if anyone wants to check it out- Also open to realistic cash offers.
