  2. I've always averaged the KBB trade-in vs the retail to get a private party price.

    2001 R1 = 3452

    2003 Spirit = 2572

That's quite a difference, even with the $500. Take a closer look at the R1.

edit: perhaps not, if you've got a lot of bling on your bike...

Sounds like he wants out from that bike for some reason.

My guess would be that it might have a salvage title.

But what do I know, I'm probably paranoid and suspicious.

Get someone with an R1 to look at it for you, that works well.

Check the bike, check the VIN, check the lien, check the title.

And yes, there will be a learning curve for a liter bike. Take it easy the first year.

Common misconception this part of the year. Books can be thrown out the window because supply < demand = higher pricing. Not to mention certain bikes just maintain a higher resale value. A 2001 R1 in a dealership this time of year is about a $4795 bike. A 2003 Shadow Spirits seem to be in the $4495 range. So the difference is not as much as you would think. I would check out that R1 very thoroughly though. Our greatest challenge as a dealership is buying sportbikes and spotting all if the little details about the bike to gather a full understanding of the condition. Something like a little glue residue around wheel weights on a bike. Guess what, that means it has been on the track more than likely because they taped their weights. Missing fairing bolt here or there? Probably have been taken off and put back on more than just a couple times. Lots of details to keep your eye open for.

Just so everyone knows, we offer a free inspection of any motorcycle you are buying no matter if it is from us or anyone else. We want to help everyone make the best decision for them. We can't beat out all individuals pricing, but we can at least make sure your not getting worked over by someone trying to pass their problems over to you.

  3. This will be my first sport bike, I've riden a 600, and an R1. Diffently want a 1000, not a real big fan of the R1. The reason I asked about what to look for, I know of to many issues with them. Didn't want to over look something.

    Thanks.

Ok, you say your first sport bike. Does this mean you have owned a different motorcycle? Let it be clear that anyone with half a brain can ride a 1000cc sportbike. There is a difference in riding and owning. When you are just riding one around your not going to be getting comfortable on it on that ride. Now when you own one, you will start to think you know what you are doing. This will be long before you actually do. This is not a jab at you, but this is entry level motorcyclist in general. Small mistakes on a 1000cc bike have big consequences. Everyone has a friend of a friend's cousin who bought one for their first bike and did just fine. Yeah, ok, maybe. But statistically that will not be the case for you. I am sure there are plenty of places that will sell you a big bore sportbike as your first bike and think nothing of it. I personally like to sleep at night and not think about the life that I am putting in danger just to make a buck. I wish you the best, but I really hope you will come to the realization that a GSXR1000 may not be the best first bike for you.

  4. Didn't mean any bad. I have a buddy who just sold his dam and is looking for an evolution. I told him about yours already I just wanted to check.

there was meant to be an lol behind that first sentence. Kinda came off as a dick there. sorry. lol

I had to say it :p

    :nothingtoadd::D:D:D:D:D:D

    post whore lol

  5. OK will do.....

Read it again... and still dont see miles on the bike so 4400 seems like a lot to me for a bike that has been modded/painted without posted miles which normally means theres a lot of them...

I bet they get less than 4400 at auction also.

Its not that i don't like the asking price, also i need more details. Miles, why it has been painted, and such. Normally paint means its been down. Plus its not on there website.

Not posting miles doesn't mean anything. It only has 6k miles on it. As for why it has been repainted, we all know why that is done. Also I am not sure why I didn't post it in the first post, but the is a small superficial ding in the frame below the gas tank on the right side as well. Also since you are just thinking we are going to take a beating at the auction, you couldn't be more wrong. In the last month there have been 5 of these in same or lessor condition float through the auction in the $4100-$5100 range. Getting less at an auction is acceptable because I am more concerned with a customer being happy with their bike than a few more $. It is not on the website for a reason as stated in the fist sentence of this thread.

Ok so going through as many bikes as we do here, we end up with a couple that aren't exactly what we would like to deal with through the dealership.

See this would be why dealers do not often try to give hook ups on bike to the open public because one person is going to question everything about it. This bike would easily be $6295 if it were in perfect condition. I have sold a 2 in just the last couple weeks. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Pics of the CBR600?

  6. Is that like saying something shitty with a smile on your face and thinking it is ok? The only "wreck" I have given it was when it slid on ice this past winter which bent a wheel and did in a tie rod end. Both tie rods replaced, wheel was straightened, front wheel bearings replaced, and a fresh alignment have been done since.
