    Land Rovers

well...I am not going to buy a brand new or "newer" car because cars depreciate very rapidly. We are going to pay cash because a car loan is bad debt IMO. So, my ability to afford upkeep isn't an issue. As far as 'status', there are other aspects of my life that speak for themselves. I don't need constant endorsement from whatever car i choose to drive. If i could, i would continue to drive my rock-solid, 9 year old Wrangler. But a noisy ride and lack of A/C aren't ideal for a baby. The particular rover i wanted had low miles (~10k/year) and complete service records. With proper maintenance (which i do myself whenever possible), a modern car SHOULD last a very long time. From what I've read here and other boards, that is not the case with rovers, so I probably won't get one. Most SUVs look too much like lifted cars. I value the "utility" aspect of SUVs. I want big and boxy with some off-road capabilities. I think I'm going to give the Jeep Commander a closer look. Thanks to you all for your input.

i own a '00 wrangler and I love it! by far the most dependable truck I've ever owned. Not long after buying it I removed the back seat and installed a half top so I could haul my mtn. bike, kayak, snowboard, etc. Now I need something with enough room for me and wife, the kid, the kid's stuff and a couple of dogs. The wife wants something more 'refined' and I think the RR's aesthetics are second to none. I've read that LRs are maintenance nightmares, but after a couple of test drives, i'm smitten by its looks and ride quality. (the air suspension is niiice) I know a Toyota would be the best buy, but I think they look so "blah". If I had my way, I'd replace the Wrangler with a Defender 90.

the wife and I had our first child about three weeks ago and now I need a bigger automobile. I am considering a 03' Range Rover with only 45k miles that has been dealer serviced. Does anyone on the board have experience with LRs?
  4. fyi, according to the Apple website, the iphone can view excel and word email attachments.
  5. internet, emailing, and texting are what I need. I'm gonna go with the iphone. Thanks for all of your input. Thanks for the hook up dweezel.
  6. emailing is the majority of my out of lab activity. but i am assuming i can bluetooth email attachments (like word, excel, and pp files) to a laptop right?
  7. hey all, I'm ready to get rid of my pda phone (windows mobile) and it's expensive unlimited data plan and pick up an iphone which has unlimited data for only +$20/mo. I need to know if it is at least decent for moderate business use(and no, after two blackberries, i still don't like them).
  8. Researchers discovered the cognitive and physical effects of Chuck Norris' urine. They began to bottle it and is known today as Red Bull.

or...keep the f4i as a track bike. i like that idea a lot better.
  10. Wow... That really stinks. I always wonder how many break-ins my dog might have prevented while my neighbors got jacked back when i lived on campus. Hopefully you recorded s/n#'s on your valuables for insurance purposes.

yeah man. Made my claim to a good amount of space in the garage and I'm about ready to tear the bike down. I got a laundry list of mods and upgrades for this winter along with a possible addition (SV1k...RC51...monsterSR4 ?) to the stable.
  12. a SV isn't exactly a small bike like a gs500 or 250ninja. with a few simple mods, my SV is a 135mph+ bike. a stock sv650 is very managable for a beginner, but as my skills increased i did simple intake, exhaust, sprocket, map, mods to make it quicker and faster.
  13. Okay, it makes sense now. whenever a random kid showed up at St. Peter's us "lifers" figured they came because they got kicked out of the public school. I guess they think the nuns will straighten out the bad apples or something. I remember how you were pretty quiet. (damn that didn't last long!)
  14. I always wanted to ask you this flounder... why did you go to SPHS for only senior year? all the way from Crestline right?
  15. no. but a set or pirelli corsas for $165 shipped doesn't sound too bad. I just need something to hold me over for the next few weeks, or however long the weather holds.
  16. im almost positive there's no performance difference. clip-ons and rearset position (besides the obvious fairings) are the differences. I inverted my bar for a more clip-on like hand position and installed rearset plates that place my rearsets a bit higher and farther back than the SVs for better weight bias and ground clearance. I'm going to do a gsxr front end also. I think you can do first and or second gen. 600 or 750 without too many problems but im not completely sure. check out www.svrider.com .
  17. just get a SV1k naked. I swapped the single 7" headlight for dual round 5" lights. I might do a hid conversion this winter.

hold out another week! s'posed to be in the 70s towards the end of the week. not so sure about precipitation....
  19. Suzuki did real nice by the SV in terms of a strong frame and a bullet-proof engine, but kept prices down with whack-ass suspension. Ride wise, the SV's power band from the L-twin is in a much wider and lower rpm range. I like to keep my needle between 6500 and 7500 rpm for the best engine response for hp/torque. The low-end torque makes the bike really fun in the city/traffic. The stock SV kinda loses its breath around 9k rpm, but I noticed after i de-snorkled the air box, lifted the tank about 1.5cm, and added a K&N, i'm better past 10k. When i first started riding, i wondered if i was missing out because I couldn't do 150mph in the straights like the r6, gsxr600, 600rr guys. Now that i'm a somewhat better rider, I see how top speeds and high HP alone dont make a great bike. Especially after this past weekend when I had a few guys ask me if my 650 was a 1k. (I want to attack 715 again with better tires!) My next bike will more than likely be a SV1k and i'll make the 650 my track machine. If you get a SV, put focus into the suspension first. Thats my opinion.
  20. im glad my bearcats didn't drop out of the top 25.

    Ride on 10/14

yeah. all i heard were screeching tires, i looked behind me and really didn't see anything. was the F4i guy trying to pass us or get out of the way of the car? I really hope it was the later of the two.
