Looks like you had to knock a little dust off after not owning a stick car for a while. Great times!

I'll bring you over here to Paktika Province to spend a week in a combat outpost if you don't believe WE are engaged in combat. And by we, that doesn't include you, so you can say the US Military, since that isn't you. It's like saying, "We beat Michigan again this year." No the Buckeyes beat Michigan. And as Bobby Lee mentioned, it is a COIN operation going on inside of Afghanistan and the remaining bits and pieces of Iraq. COIN or Counter Insurgency, is a method of operation and a way of conducting business in certain parts. This boils down to what Gen.McChrystal and now Gen. Petraeus are fighting for, which is the "Hearts and Minds" campaign. You win their hearts, and the minds will follow sort of thing. Terrorism is more than just an idea, but in the same token it's mostly radical Islam that needs to be put in the same boat. Haven't seen any "peacekeeping" going on here in Afghanistan. Maybe you have the United States Military confused with the United Nations.

Tax free is pretty nice, I must admit. There is retirement after 20+ years of service. Military retirement isn't bad when you boil it down, but 20 years can be a long 20 years. There's also Veteran benefits, along with the usual college G.I Bill which has had some good changes in the past few years. As far as the retirement is concerned, the retiree is covered under TriCare insurance (About the best out there) and also recieve a large portion of their salary (Which translates to what rank you retired at, depends upon the amount) There is a difference in Active Duty Military vs. Reserve/National Guard, but it all is based at the 20 year mark for being entitled to a retirement.

You're talking about BAH, not BHA. A single E1 on active duty is probably not going to be entitled BAH. With that said, $225 = Hostile Fire Pay $50 = Hardship Pay, throw in food allowance that's usually under $200. So tax free in a combat zone as an E1, you might clear $31K if you're lucky. You've got some extras in there like jump pay (Airborne) and demo pay, but that's nickle and dimes for the most part.

Amen. There's still people that need killing in the world, should I go further? We're finishing what we started, and not to mention, keeping a good 80% of wanna-be terrorists from blowing up the US of A by giving them a potential target that shoots back. Those that said it's about oil, you REALLY need to educate yourself.

I could have some fun with this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=zLVeOOf8rxo&feature=related Granted, I prefer shooting 5.56mm out of my AR's.

+1 Not to bash the post, but he should expect $1K if he's lucky.

About 5 weeks in Iraq 03' time frame. My feet smelled like they were about to fall off my body.

Agreed with this statement. I'm here with guys from Illinois to Massachusetts and have to say I'm glad to be a resident of Ohio. It's down right rediculous some places to purchase, own and even shoot a firearm. I can think of a few states that need looked at by the Supreme Court. I'm game for running ammo Austin. I might start reloading here once I return for good sometime next year.

I know......you may kill me for posting this, but I will. I was technically Farva. The night of "cop on cop fucky fucky." Had my beer goggles on, my bad. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs040.snc3/12740_193042159257_670299257_4000134_488683_n.jpg

Iraq was one thing, and Afghanistan is honestly another. We had boots on the ground before and after 9/11 in Afghanistan. We didn't start kicking off Iraq until 2003, in which one way or another I'm glad we took care of. I'm not a fan of nation building in the least, because Lord knows we rolled over Iraq's military like it didn't exist. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion, but I liked the man. Might be hard for some to believe, but it's also hard to believe people like Pelosi have supporters in this world. True, but that whole standing our ground is over. I'll beg to differ with some of the WMD thing, because I did enough CEA (Captured Enemy Ammunition) missions that lead us to get rid of quite a few Al-Hussein/SCUD warheads and missiles. Like any high stakes poker game, Sadam had a good bluff going. In that same aspect, Bush didn't bring in BIG GOVERNMENT, but did also usher in the era of the Patriot Act. True, true, true. This isn't WWII, where entire industries worked towards the "war effort." The push is for a "Hearts and Minds", just like in Vietnam. It's sad to say Afghanistan will turn into that scenario, but I see it coming. Agreed again.

Been to Iraq twice and just extended 6 more months here in Afghanistan....might give you a small clue as to my stance on this. TRIPLE DAT!
-
Just a quick one here, when you say we it sounds like you actually went? Funny, don't think you did, so why do you really care? Stay on the WMD rant all day long, but we kept and are keeping Al-Qaeda at bay no matter how you cut the pie. We've got the All-Star team trying to gun our ass down or blow us up daily. It's better than them stepping foot onto American soil huh? Maybe I think our country is in the shitter now, but I guess we must see things through different eyes. Never used to be all that hard to get a job, taxes weren't as high as they were, and the distain for the government is pretty crazy at this point.

Personally, during that part of my life I was active duty Army. President Bush lead the way in funding for the military, because he realized how Clinton truely raped our armed forces like most Democrats seem to do so well. The man had a backbone, and under the circumstances held his ground when 9/11 went down. The fact I had modern equipment and training was all I personally cared about. Hell, we even got a 3.9% raise every year on top of that. He'll be a good President in my eyes because he cared about the men and women in uniform. He visited more than once a year, which to me kinda showed he gave a fuck, unlike the current. But the man's Presidency is history, hopefully like the current one will be.

Along with Kirk, I will +1 on this. Get a job, plain and simple. Funny that all the jobs I've ever had, I've always had health coverage. Silly how that works, since the medical profession is also a business in itself. You make money, pay them money, and you live to see another day.
-
Seems like you've been drinking the punch too. Personally, I had the pleasure of serving under President Bush, and personally he was an amazing Commander in Chief. If you really thought McCain was another Bush, maybe you're the true idiot in this. Personally, you seem to be the type that wasn't happy with one side, so to right that, you thought it upon yourself to go to the other side. Obviously, you saw the wrong in this atleast. Nothing is ever 100% right, but maybe one day people will wise up and keep liberals out of power.

Speaking of decent glass, I've been hearing great reviews from Trijicon's AccuPoint series and some of the Nightforce optics. Either way, just like with the ammo, that rifle will only really be as good as the glass that sits atop it.
-
Personally I consider cheap ammo to be like cheap gas. Do you really want some inferior junk running through a rifle you just dropped over $1K on? American Eagle XM193 is no more than $9/Box or 20 rounds. A 55grain round would be perfect to run through it to break in. I'm acquiring a small stash of Sierra match king 77 grain 5.56mm. Can't wait to shoot it personally.
