  1. So my daughter’s troop is selling cookies again this year, except this time they are sending them to the Soldiers and Marines overseas.

The box's are 3$ each, you can’t choose the type as some can’t be shipped over due to conditions. The money will be collected and given to the troop leader and she will order the box's to take to the USO, they will place them in care packages for the troops. Thanks for all your support. These little things go a long way when in those harsh situations.

I'm a combat Vet myself and for those that don't know me personally Benyen Soljax can vouch for me. I'm honest and the money will go to the the troops.

Casper has set up a PayPal donation through Ohio Riders. Click here to donate however much money you want. Be sure to enter your Ohio Riders screenname.

A card and stickers from Ohio Riders will also be sent to the Girl Scout troops.

  2. Thank you.

Yesterday went very well with the recruiter. I am looking thru the MOS's still.

Here are some I am thinking on:

    Armament Repair

    Ammunition Specialist

    Small Arms/Artillery Repairer

Signal Suppot System Specialist......describe this one if you can??

    Mental Health Specialist

    Radiology Specialist

these are just ones that jump out at me. i haven't talked any of them over with recruiter, but that may be better anyway. i want to chose the ones i may like before he informs me of where i may or may not fit in best.

going to visit the akron/canton drilling location Saturday .

If your thinking about after/civilian jobs go Radiology. Plus that is a cake job in the Army. I had a buddy that was in Radiology and loved it.

  3. if youre doing the national guard just for money the air force is the way to go. deployments are much shorter normally and its always a better place (read: normally not the front lines). i know probably 4 or 5 people right now down at rickenbacker and they have a ton of AFNG stuff going on there, not sure exactly what jobs but i know at least one is security forces if youre into that. security forces also can get slots for airborne school from the army sometimes. tell them you wont enlist until you get what you want. personally i dont like MPs much cause all they do is screw everyone else in the military, but hey, a lot of people are dumbasses and deserve to get busted, so if you have a superiority complex then by all means...

MP basic training though in the army is different than normal because they have an OSUT, one station unit training or whatever it is. you would be at fort leonard wood for all 18 or however many weeks it is.

Oh fyi they screwed me outta my school date for 35F in jan.... Now I have to take the 37F course or lose my tuition benefits for not being MOS qual'ed. Its great, gotta love it. So now I guess I'll see you in Jan.

  4. Gi bill is for school, however if your like me, I was on active duty, got out and went reserves, so I get tuition reimbursement of almost 5000 per year, I also get 5000 a year for my employer, which in turn puts my 1332 back in my pocket. Cha Ching... lol

  5. Yeah, you have up to 10years after you leave the military to use your GI Bill... I got out of Active Duty Aug 2002!

I'm planning on milking every bit of that 26 or 30K (what ever it is these days) till it is gone!!!

How are you getting 1560, I only receive 1332 and that is the full active GI Bill?

  6. How many deployments since you have been serving?

What goes on when you report for your monthly weekend duties?

I have 71% of application completed....man it takes alot of remembering.

As for deployments, you can expect to deploy, it's gonna happen so prepare. Their are also peace time deployments for training that you will have to complete. Any way you look at it, you are signing up to complete a job so be ready for that. Weekend drills (in the reserves) is trying to cram in a months worth of training in 3 days.

One hot MOS civilian side right now is UAV operator 96U, make close to 6 figures right out of the military.

  7. We had something similar in the Air Force. Really sucked for me though because of when I went in. I spent Thanksgiving at basic and Christmas/New Year at my first tech school not able to do anything.

That does suck, I went in Jan at Fort Sill, very windy and cold. I spent 6 mos away before coming back, basic and ait included. But I do understand the missing of the holidays. I have spent many in Iraq.

  8. Army basic and ait is also broken down into phases. Basic will cover phase 1-3 and you will begin phase 4 in ait. You are considered IET (initial entry trainee) until phase 6. That is when you will get some liberties, IE off post pass and such. You will get a 2 day break (common sometimes more or less) in between basic and ait, to visit with family and such but must stay over night on the post still. Any specific questions just ask me, I was active for 6 years and now am in the reserves still.

  9. isaac, you still could have gone silly. your wife would have supported you

anyway, my brother in law, who's 17 is in the process right now. joining at the same location. i dont remember his jobs he was looking at, ill have to ask.

its a great opportunity with good benefits. i know he is gonna get a $20k sign on bonus. and for some reason, another $2k bonus. along with school 100% paid for.

then his $500/month for 2 days of work.

if i wasnt needing full time pay, id def. be looking into the guard.. i might change down the road too.

im jealous, that im goin active, and not gettin any money.. he's goin guard and gettin $22k!! wtf? lol

You might want to check the 500 per month figure. I am an E-5 in the reserves and don't even make that. What rank is he, E-1 or did he get the little pre promotion?

  10. I desire to. I plan to talk to a recruiter today. Ken is peed-off about it...just a little. We talked.

I would really enjoy the nine weeks basic. I need a challenge right now. Then the extra funds could help pay off some stuff and fund track days...ya know. What for an MOS? I am thinking still.

Its much more than a 9 week commitment. You have to factor in schooling like Fusion said. And the length of that varies from 4 weeks to 20 weeks plus.
