  1. So sully what did you get her??????

From the suggestions early in the thread, I decided to not just surprise her with one. She needs to try a few different guns to determine what is going to be best for her. She needs to be comfortable picking it up and using. After the holiday crap settles down, we'll take a day trip to the range and test a few.

  2. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I had also stopped at Vance's after work on Friday to pick their brain a bit. What I've decided that it boils down to is what several of you have stated. She needs to be comfortable with it. So, instead of just getting her a gun, I'm going to take her to the range to let her try a few different ones.
  3. With the increase in crime lately, I am considering getting something for the wife to keep nearby in the house since she is a SAHM. She has shot guns before, but never owned one. I have several shotguns in the house, but I need something easier to grab and more manageable for her. I'd like to get something inexpensive but reliable and cheap on ammo. What would you recommend?
  4. Appreciate all the information and suggestions. I ended up going with a middle of the road ACDelco one for like $50. Figured that'd give me the best of both worlds, so to speak. Being ACDelco, not $100+, and her dad and I splitting the cost, figured that would be worth it. Also picked up the serpentine belt from RA while I was at it. Again, about 1/2 the cost of one in a local store. There wasn't a huge difference in price for the coolant, plus I'd have to pay shipping for that, so I'll just get that local. I'll probably pick up some of the hose clamps locally as well because I'm sure those will need to be replaced as we take things apart.
  5. When you buy from a parts store, they typically have a supplier contract with 2 or 3 suppliers and that's it. RockAuto buys from independent warehouses so you can find everything from the cheapest junk to high end stuff - you have choice.

MY only experience with US Motorworks is that at one point they made a water pump for the LT5 in the c4 zr1. Since dad has a ZR1 we talked about getting one as a spare (OEM spares are non-existent). Someone else in the ZR1 registry bought one and sent us the pics - the casting was low quality, the threads were all gunked up, and the part needed grinding to fit. we ended up buying a used water pump and sent it out for a rebuild. I personally would not purchase their part - not because it is cheap, but because my limited experience is that their parts are not made well.

Shop around, see if NAPA or Autozone has a better deal. I tend to buy from NAPA a lot these days because their quality is a little more consistent.

    Great feedback. Much appreciated.

  6. How long will she be keeping the car? If the answer is another 100k miles then splurge for the more expensive unit

If the WP goes out will it take the timing belt with it? if yes, then go with OEM part from dealer

All driving is very local, so maybe 15 - 20 minutes each way of our house. She's not going to be driving any long distances for quite some time and who know how long she'll have the car.

It's serpentine belt driven, which we'll be replacing as well.

They have several options on the RockAuto site, including some around the $50 mark. Maybe that'd be a good compromise?

  7. My step-daughter's car needs a new water pump. From Advanced Auto, they are $100. I found one on RockAuto made by US Motorworks for $17.00 and it has a 12 month warranty. That's a major difference in price. Would you feel comfortable using the $17 water pump?

    Backstory:

It's a Chevy Cruze with 133,000 miles that her dad and I split the cost on the purchase of. We agreed that we'd split the cost on repairs. An independent shop wants $500 to replace it. We decided to just do it ourselves to save money as neither of us really have a whole lot extra to spend.

It kind of makes me a bit nervous about purchasing a $100+ part for $17, but US Motorworks appears to be legit, from what I can tell.

    Thoughts?

  8. With the way they had been playing, the Buckeyes were only favored by 15 against Rutgers, so that should tell you a lot right there. CJ was MUCH more accurate after getting some rest. Let's just hope he stays healthy. The defense looked a hell of a lot better. I had to chuckle when Rutgers were celebrating their scores against the 2nd/3rd string Buckeye defense.

They shouldn't have any problems with Maryland and Indiana. I'm looking forward to hopefully being at the OSU/Penn St game. A game time hasn't been announced yet, but I'm hoping it's a night game and that Game Day is going to be there at the Shoe.

  9. I have no experience with geothermal, but in response to some of the other comments, my previous house was all electric with a heat pump. Never again will I have a house with electric heat. My current house has NG and is much more efficient and warmer air coming out of the vents. If you have any other options besides all electric, go that route.
  10. I’m shocked people are donating money to her.

For real. I don't know who is dumber, her or the people giving her money for being that fucking stupid.

"Tessica has started a Go Fund Me campaign to cover her medical bills and has already raised nearly $11,000."

I'm gonna go shove a straw up my nose and sue the straw makers for not putting instructions on the fucking straw!! JFC!!!

  11. I don't know that we got out-played... I feel more like we got out-coached. Play calling was horrible. The defensive coverage was the worst. You can't play soft coverage against Alabama. They saw it and took advantage of it.
  12. I had a 220w electric run to a small electric and have never looked back. Gas is great, may be cheaper but this was inexpensive, quick, easy and works awesome. It's small too. My garage is very well insulated and 24x24. This unit will roast me out if I want. Most of the time I keep it between 60-65° though as I get hot working out there. It does so with ease.

I'm finding out that it's going to cost me around $3,000 to have the gas line ran to my detached garage. Plus the heater and exhaust venting is another $1,000 and I still have to have electric ran, which will be about another $1,200. At this point, I'm considering just running an electric unit for now and just keep an eye on the electric bill to see how much it changes.

Do you know the make/model of your heater?

  13. I'm working on getting a gas line ran to my detached garage. I'm going to get the Big Maxx 80,000 BTU gas heater and install a wifi thermostat. Reason being is that I want to keep it 50-ish in there at all times, but be able to turn it up before I head out there. It's going to cost more up front, but it'll be cheaper in the long run. If I wasn't going to keep a controlled temp, I'd probably go the all electric route.

You have to look at how you plan to use the garage. If you're not going to be out there very often, you'd probably be fine going all electric. I plan to be out there daily, so gas is the best option for me.

  14. that sucks dude, I was going to tell you my 50x60 building is just too small for me and I never thought in a million years that I would use up all that space. (when I was originally specing out the building I was thinking 30x40 and my father in law told me figure out the size you want then double it.)

I was originally just wanting a 24x24 mainly due to limited funds at the time. But after selling the other house to the developer, I was able to pocket some of the extra money and go with a larger building. Although not twice the size, it's still larger than initially planned.

  15. I'm having a 30x40 built that has 12' tall side walls. I went with a single overhead 18x10 R17 insulated door. I'm also having the entire building bubble wrapped. I don't know if going with a single large door like that was a mistake or not. I didn't want to have to install 2 openers and I didn't want a post down the center of the front of the building.

I wish I could have gone with a larger building, but due to placement and township restrictions I couldn't. I already have a fairly large shed on the lot. Both buildings together cannot exceed the total sq ft of the house. Lame, but it is what it is.

  16. Are you sure it's a V6 and not an inline 6? Inline 6, keep it. Honestly, why not just buy a V8 truck to begin with?

Description says V6, so that's all I can go by right now.

Due to price and my budget. It's insane that just because it's a V8, the price jumps a few grand. Dumb.

  17. Why a squarebody truck if you just want it for hauling and towing? Especially for what they go for now for a clean example?

I'd drive it other times as well, not just for those specific reasons and not daily either. I really love the body style and they're extremely easy to work on. I just hate modern vehicles with how cramped everything is to work on.
