3. Sorry to those who don’t like the Twitterish type posts but I had a near miss (my first) on my way in to work this morning and I wanted to share. I was heading South on Africa Road coming up to County Line Rd just North of Westerville. I was behind a black Escalade and we were all running at 35-40 mph when all of a sudden, without warning he swerves over to the left turn lane and all I see is stopped traffic. I grab both brakes, locking the rear wheel, skidding toward the back end of some red car (couldn’t make out what it was, all I saw were brake lights), somehow managed to swerve over into the 12 inches of gutter on the right hand side of the red car coming to a stop next to the passenger door of the red car. Kept the bike up and didn’t hit anything, thankfully. Thought I was going to have go home and change my undies at first. Once I regained normal pulse and respiratory activities, I still had to sit on the side of the road and calm my nerves for a good five minutes. Still cant get it out of my head. I guess that emergency swerve training at the MSF course paid off! Best $25 I have ever spent!! Thanks for reading! Bill Why do they call them near misses anyway?? it was more like a near HIT!! If two things collide, then you can say "They nearly Missed." Bonus points for who can tell me the source. Bill

Finally!

First serious seat time on the Virago today after work. Put about 50 miles on it just winding my way around the country roads near my place. SWEET!!! I am still a little timid when it comes to curves and cornering but I am sure I will get there with time and practice. I need a new helmet too, this one I bought (used HJC CS-12) is a tad too small (it's an XXXL btw) and doesnt breath very well. Looks liks a trip to the Pony next week for me! :-) Bill.

Finally!

$2000 it has 23k and change on the odometer. I kind of like the look that the windscreen gives it. I will have to give it a try and see what difference it would make with it off. Its from an HD softtail, trimmed down on the bottom sides to fit around the lights. Thanks! Bill.

Finally!

After lurking around here and combing through Craigslist, I finally picked up my first bike. I bought a 95 Virago 1100. Got it from a lady in the minerva park area. She even delivered it to my place in Radnor!! AWESOME! Side panels are on order. I have the yamaha badge for the front forks, just need to get new screws. Seems to be very well taken care of, it has a few scratches on the tank, nothing too out of the ordinary for a 14 year old bike I would think. I need new bulbs for the rear turn signals, other than that it seems to run like a top. I have picked up a lot from you folks and from the MSF course I took a few weeks ago. Now I need me some SEAT TIME!!! Thanks for looking! Bill.
9. dont know where you are located but here is one in Radical Radnor. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/1161600887.html Radnor is about 20 minutes north of Columbus.
10. thats what she said!!!
11. Thoughts and prayer go out to his family. News story Motorist discovers fatal motorcycle wreck Wednesday, May 6, 2009 10:59 AM By Randy Ludlow The Columbus Dispatch The body of a motorcyclist who apparently died from an overnight crash was found along Rt. 310 in Pataskala this morning. Police have identified the crash victim as Ryan Isenbarg, 32, of 163 Fairway Dr. in Pataskala, Chief Chris Forshey said. He said it appears the single-vehicle crash happened sometime last night or early this morning. Investigators said Isenbarg was headed south on Rt. 310 when his motorcycle apparently left the road, became airborne and crashed into a water-filled ditch. A passing motorist called police about 7:30 a.m. to report he had seen a motorcycle in a ditch along Rt. 310 north of Refugee Road, said Lt. Steven Garavuso. Police then discovered Isenbarg's body near the motorcycle. Isenbarg lived about a mile and a half from the crash site, and likely was headed home when the crash occurred, Forshey said. He said a relative spoke with Isenbarg at 11:15 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled at the Licking County coroner's office.
12. I just completed mine two weeks ago and it went pretty much exactly like Cdubyah said. It rained for most of the day on Sunday for my class. We had wakes behind us during our tests!! Looking at the forecasts for this weekend I would say to be prepared for rain. Our instructors said that we would ride in anything but lightning. Take your time, relax and enjoy it!! Well worth the $25!!! Bill.
13. welp those two Mid 80s cruisers on craigslist are already gone! what are the thoughts on salvage rebuilt title bikes?
14. Loking for a cruiser. Due to limited funds its going to have to be an oldie but a goodie! I have seen some mid 80's cruisers on Craiglist for under 2k that might fit the bill (pun intended). I am concerned about buying something that old, went and looked at a 92 Vulcan that the guy said was one of the cleanest out there, but he didnt mention the dent in the tank or the scratches on the wihndshield or the black goop that was in place of a grommet on the top of the crank case or the fact that the gas that was sloshing around in the tank had been there since he bought it last summer and he hadnt ridden it enough to burn through it so he couldnt even tell me what kind of mileage he gets! I could go on but I am tired of it now. Besides Craigslist and cycletrader, are there any other resources to use when looking for a good used bike? Thanks! Bill.
15. Finished up the MSF course in the rain this evening. Passed the final "celebration of Skills" and I am now Officially licensed to operate a motorcycle. The range instructers were AWESOME. They both did a great job and really took their time and explained not only the excercises we were doing but why we were going through them and how they relate to real-world situations. I did not get my final paperwork so I don't know exactly what I missed on the final, the only thing I know I did wrong was go just a hair outside the U-turn box on the last turn. Everything else went smooth as silk. Even in the pouring rain! The classroom work on Friday night was ok, but it was mostly reviewing what was in the book and watching videos. Got a little boring to be honest. Now I got to find me a bike!!! Bill.
16. Hey Radio Flyer, I am in the class tonight as well. we dont need to bring gear tonight do we? I forgot my boots at home this morning! I have helmet jacket and gloves in the car but COMPLETELY forgot the damn boots!
17. Thanks for the advice everyone. I decided not to pursue this deal. I called the state title place downtown and they said it is possible but it is a Ton of paperwork and time involved and they also said it is technically illegal to sell a motor vehicle of any kind without a title. The search continues. At least I have the MSF course to look forward to this weekend! Bill.
18. It's a 1985 Honda V65 Magna with 35000+ miles on it and NO TITLE for $1000. I searched and found this thread http://www.ohio-riders.net/showthread.php?t=21332 so I think the title would take some leg work and a few extra bucks but shouldn't be a total show stopper. I have not seen this bike run yet, talked to the guy on the phone today and he said it runs fine but hasn't been fired up yet this year. I plan on meeting him on Saturday to see it and give it a go over. He said he ran the VIN and it came back clean. I plan on stopping by tomorrow and getting the VIN and doing some research for myself. It has been sitting under a front porch for some time now but wasn't out there over the winter. I also need to mention that this will be the first bike I have owned. I rode a POS LTD 440 something during my college days about 15 years ago but I never had a license, insurance or a helmet. It was my roommate's bike. I have my temps and I am taking the MSF course this weekend. Here is the seller's story about the bike- He said a guy from Kansas was riding through our little town and ran out of gas and sold him the bike with a bill of sale claiming to mail the title to him but he never heard from him a again. Sounds a Little far fetched to me. What do you all think? I have been lurking around here for about a year now and looking for a bike for longer than that. you all seem like a great group with some VERY knowledgeable folks so I am hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks, Bill.
19. NICE RIDE! how did you find that deal. I have been looking for a nice clean vulcan for a while but never seem to find any deals like that.
