  1. So who in this thread will be in intermediate this weekend. I want to get some schooling! I'm interested in going fast and doing it right and I'm not afraid to admit I'm doing it wrong if someone better than me can watch me and let me know what I can do to improve. Mostly I'm gonna work on my race line and getting off the bike even more but I'm sure there are other things I could work on. I've mostly ridden novice so far.
  2. You'd all probably be going even faster if you were running a CarrMoto suspension set up.
  3. I was there several times last year. It's fun if you like slow and technical corners. Personally, I think it's a blast on something like my ducati monster but on something like a super bike I think it's a pain in the butt. Flounder you are right. In the past it was littered with gravel but last year it was very clean. It's just narrow. Now on the other hand. 636 into Marietta which connects to 555 is a mess and that is where I wrecked last year on a big patch of sand. No good!!!! Personally, I'll have my fun at the track this year and if I end up on 555 I'll be putting along. It is a very well known road though, lots of blind, 15mph turns and everything else, keeps you on your toes for about 20 miles.
  4. The old fight between lightweight underpowered cars vs. heavy high powered cars is one of my favorites. Reminds me of the old Mini Coupers vs. the Corvettes. No less, riding in that Carrera GT with Mike Valentine was not smooth, it's my first time going around a track on 4 wheels so I'm not sure what to expect and how it is supposed to go. I'm sure its vastly different between a 116hp miata and a 612hp Porsche. I'm not sure what kind of lap times that car could turn in the hands of a seasoned race driver. I'd think it'd be substantially faster than a spec miata though. Hard to say. Probably varies a lot from track to track. He was hitting 155mph in the back straight, so you must be making up a lot of time in the corners. Either way, I can tell you he is an instructor at a Porsche club event. I guess that makes him a good driver. Lap times are interesting. Consider this Champ Car - 1:12 Wera/AMA 600cc superbikes 1:31ish Fast guys in advanced on a track day 1:40s My buddy on a 1098s in advance 1:46 another buddy on a ducati 900 supersport 1:45 you in your miata 1:48 Mike valentine in a Carrera GT 1:40s Really fast superbike guys mid 1:20s Not sure what it means, but it is what it is. If I can break into the 1:40s at all this year on my GSX-R750 I'll be happy. We'll see.
  5. LOL! yah, give me a year or so to see if I can get fast, if so I'll be needing some yellow. For now, it'll be white because that's the kind of paint Chris has and because right now it's all about fashion! I could also go silver maybe. I can't wait for this weekend, Mid-OH baby!!!!!
  6. Woh, take it easy there Tony Danza!
  7. Are you around town. If you think you have 2 of them I'll bring one by for comparison.
  8. If the blue was not tape I'd consider it. Chris has a little white paint so we're using that and we did discuss keeping the pin stripe but in white. I know I know white is expert, if I start racing wera, I'll put my yellow tape on. For now I'm just going with what I have and what looks good.
  9. Haha, I knew someone would comment about that. I wasn't riding it! Jeez. that is funny. There are a bunch of squids on Gixxers. LOL .
  10. I took a few more in the light. The blue outline is for a number plate to be painted as soon as we get dry weather (probably thursday). Funny how small the bike looks once I get on it.
  11. These are the fasteners. I just need the pins and the plastic washers. IF someone has 2. If someone has the kind with the handles on them that's fine too but I'd like to get 6 of those then just so they all match. I know I'm vein.
  12. I think I just need the pins. I am assuming that what is on there is dzus. It seems all of the clips are on the upper but I only have 4 pins. The bike is black so black is preferred but I'm not really too picky. The bike is a lot prettier than it was but it's still just a track slut not a show bike. I just like to use all the fasteners when riding real fast. At barber I used the 4 and then duct taped over the hole seam. Not ideal but it worked. I checked JEGS, their fasteners are too big. tell you what. I'll take a picture of what I need because this is my first time dealing with them. I'm not really used to fairings yet.
  13. My guess is that you are a better driver than him if you run 1:48 in a miata spec car. Like anything though. Eventually the lap times have a lot more to do with the driver than the car, I bet I'd turn slower laps on a CBR1000RR than I would on my monster cause it would scare the daylights out of me. Could be wrong though.
  14. Anyone have any of these laying around. I really only need 2. Even if someone could tell me where to buy them locally that would be great. Otherwise I guess I'll just buy some on the internet. Thanks.
  15. I dunno, I always thought the same thing. Me and Macy showed up 2 up on my ducati monster to a Porsche club event. Maybe they were confused or something but they said they were being more strict about making people pay to get in this year and then let me in for free. Who knows, that is just what happened to me. Down at barber I remember them charging us 5 bucks a day to enter the track on top of our track day fee. Maybe Mid-OH needs to have some sort of standard deal rather than saying $275 a year season pass only but not enforcing it.
  16. This whole thing was just sort of right place right time for me. It was free for us to get in and hang around the track and watch my brother in law. It was $25 to ride with an instructor. I really wanted to get Macy (my girlfriend) in a car so she could see what it was like out there so we did, but then I wanted to too and it just so happened Mike Valentine was an instructor that had time to do it. I'm not sure if you could easily just walk into this place for an event. The Mid-OH guys at the gate were giving me shit saying I should have a season pass to be able to get in and watch. I said I was there to hang out with my brother in law who was driving and I had ridden up from Columbus. They ended up letting me in. I guess you just need to be persistent, but in actuality you aren't supposed to be allowed in. On the other hand, last year at track days I had buddies up there helping out that weren't riding. Not really sure what the protocol is there. In the Carrera GT we certainly were not following people into turns single file. We were getting up there asses and coming out of the corners passing them, it was kinda scary when he'd make a pass in a place like thunder valley because it would put us off line for the next turn. I was in a session with all instructors though. They do wave each other by though when one car/driver is clearly faster than another. I watched a 944 turbo spin out right in front of us coming into the keyhole. Agreed 944 turbo is probably the cheapest and most effective cars you could get out there. Personally I'm partial to the 914. For some reason I've just always loved those things. Especially if you can get one and put a flat 6 in it. 200hp in something like that would just be fast. For now I'll just stick to motorcycles though. I really enjoy the feel of the bike compared to the car. That and running a car at the track seems that it's substantially more expensive.
  17. So..... Macy and I went up to Mid-OH on Saturday to see my brother in law drive his M3 at the track. The event was very similar to our track days. They ran sessions that were broke up based on driver skill. So... to get to the interesting part. There was a little organization called taste of the track set up there to let the small amount of spectators get a ride on the track for $25 with the instructors. Unfortunately Kirk (my brother in law) was not in a high enough skill level to take passengers yet. Anyway, Macy and I signed up for a ride. She rode in a silver Porsche boxter and I happened to inquire if I could ride with Mike Valentine (of Valentine 1 radar detectors) who brought his Porsche Carrera GT. Yes this is the $440,000 600hp porsche designed to compete with the Ferrari Enzo. 0-60 in 3.5 seconds 0-100 in 6.8 seconds. So we got to ride about 10 laps each. There are pictures below of cars around the paddock, Kirk's blue M3 on track and of course the Carrera GT and Macy going through the carousel. The Carrera GT was violently fast and stopped like nothing I'd ever been in with it's carbon ceramic brakes. Mike was a pretty good driver and had the car fairly loose in nearly every corner. It was downright frightening but I would go again in a heart beat. The event did not allow lap timers but to give you an idea of how fast we were going, Mike says he usually runs low 1:40s at Mid-OH in that car. Being a passenger and on 4 wheels was very different from riding the track on a bike. [ IMG]http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r197/vw151/Mid%20OH%20April%2018th%202009/IMG_5600.jpg
  18. I was there to watch my brother in law at a porsche club event this weekend. They gave me a little shit at the gate saying you need a season pass to get in and watch but they let me in anyway. I think if you just say you are there for the event they'll let you in. It's pretty lax but they are weird up there.
  19. Yep we'll be there. Just look for Mike's black 1098s on Sunday and look for my Gixxer on both days among others, we'll be up front in one of the garages. I also know someone who might buy both days if you want to reschedule. I'll pass your number along.
  20. I'll be at Mid-OH this coming weekend 25th and 26th.
  21. finished up the Body work this week. Still going to paint on some number plates but other than that it's done. Check it out.
  22. I'm psyched to ride home from work and I was psyched to ride during lunch. Hooliganism is sure to ensue. Of course in a safe controlled manner.
