CoolWhip
I'm looking for a nice .30-06 to get into long range and for hunting. Does anyone have any experience with the Ruger American Rifle? Can anyone recommend me a good .30-06? Preferably under $1000. (If you have one to sell even better!)
Gunner75
you can usually pick up a nice Remington model 700 that shoots a .308 for around 700-850. That Ruger American Rifle is nice but Im a fan of the 700 Edited April 11, 2013 by Gunner75
marca
Savage rifles have a reputation for being very accurate and relatively inexpensive.
flounder
For a $1000 budget on the rifle alone, go with a savage or rem.
Gunner75
If its good enough for Seals to use for a sniper, its good enough for me

scottie.harris
I am all for the remington 700, overall one of the best for the money. Edited April 11, 2013 by scottie.harris
Mojoe
I have an American and it's been great. I wanted to do some hunting in Vermont and also some distance shooting. I have it set up with a Nikon Manarch, and I can't seem to miss. I've only shot it to 375 meters, but I really am happy with the rifle. I didn't need anything with a heavy barrel for what I plan to use it for.
CoolWhip
There are a lot of different kind of Remington 700s are some models better than others? Any recommendations?
Gunner75
Like I said before, If its good enough for Seal Snipers to use then a model 700 in .308 is good enough for me.
flounder
Rem SPS, SPS Tac, 5R, etc. I prefer the heavy barrel versions in 20-26" lenghts. These usually come marketed as the more tatical models and usually have a B&C, Houge, or HS Precision stock.DO NOT BUY ONE WITH THE TRIANGLE BARREL!!! Get a standard round barrel. scottie.harris
I got the ADL model, the only difference between it and the SPS a drop plate in the stock so you dont have to unload each bullet individually. I will say do NOT buy a 770, they are not the best of quality.
