Laptop Experts, Need Some Advice

thinking of pulling the trigger on the lenovo y500. i am admittedly a n00b when it comes to laptops, so experts chime in as this will be my first :) i mainly need this for school, but i intend on playing some games as well. right now on lenovo's website this model (IdeaPad Y500 Laptop - 59371960) is on sale for students for $779. here are the specs:

specs look great to me, but is this a good deal price wise? am i missing another potential winner around this price? thanks!

Don't just buy a laptop on specs alone.  Those are some great specs for that price point.  But, Lenovo thinkpad lines are the ones that are built better and will last longer.  If you go with a cheaper build quality, spend the money on the good warranty.

Cnet seems to like it.  I wouldn't say don't get it if you want a gamer laptop.  Win8 takes some getting accustomed to.
