Connie14
Pretty cool motor. It will be intersting to see if that motor takes off. It will also be intersting to see if it overcomes other wankel engine issues. Some people may think the following applies:
ReconRat
Did you see the 400hp Yamaha 4-cylinder on that website? Snowmobile setup, but still a motorcycle engine.
redkow97
980 lbs? Did I read that wrong? For the power boat application, this seems great, but I question its viability in a super car application, as the article suggested. Still pretty amazing engineering. Read the comments for some typical Internet drama.
redkow97
The hitler video is always funny, but like I mentioned - it's a marine application. Torque isn't all that essential.
Gixxus Christ!
Eh, somehow I'm sure 3400 hp will find a use regardless of torque. I like the quote: 'we'll start with 2 turbos and if that doesn't work we'll put more on'

I don't imagine they'd put the full 12 rotor engine in a super car. They mentioned scaling it down, probably to a 8 or 6 rotor? Weight would be a lot less, and based off their numbers still capable of some really high hp numbers.

c7fx
problem with this type of motor is that its a huge fuel hog

redkow97
problem with this type of motor is that its a huge fuel hogThat literally crossed the RX8 off my list of vehicles I would consider some day. 20 mpg from a 1.3 liter. Gixxus Christ!
Yeah my dad had an rx7 back in the day b said it ran like hell but used just as much gas as a damn hemi v8.
TRMN8TR
Rx7 only had 2 rotors. Yup most had 2, if I'm not mistaken there were some earlier 3 rotor versions but that was max unless it was something custom.

A friend of mine had one in HS.
zx3vfr
I remember working an scca event as a flagger one Sunday afternoon. Some multiple rotor mazda was racing. I couldn't hear for a week. I like the diesel audis. They are nice and quiet
shadyone
That literally crossed the RX8 off my list of vehicles I would consider some day. 20 mpg from a 1.3 liter.I've often heard that the 1.3L rotary motors are more like a 2.6L as far as power and gas mileage. Not sure how true that is.
Gixxus Christ!
Considering you get like 240 hp out of it I'd say that's about right. One advantage of the rx8 is its a 4 door with a 1.3l motor...insurance is stupid low.
TwiztedRabbit
loved my rx-8 232 hp stock.. really fun to drive.. wasn't fast in the striaight lines.. but handled really well 50/50 weight dist. got about 23-26mpg and used very little oil.. never had problem one. it wasnt my daily though Edited February 13, 2014 by TwiztedRabbit

Mojoe
The 1993 fd-rx7 had a 3 rotor, if memory serves right. A friend of mine had one in HS.No 3 rotor Mazda's ever came to the US. The 12 and then the 13 series motors were all 2 rotors. The RX7 is like a 16 year old dating a supermodel. She looks SOOO good, but you have to put the maintenance time in, you can't just fuck her all the time, like you want to. They aren't for everyone. Change the plugs every 1500 miles, along with the oil. Plugs are $8 each.
redkow97
No 6 speed that stock for some reason I was thinking 232 was the automatic number, and the manual was more like 270. Guess that was wishful thinking.
